Where's the best/cheapest place to get an eye test done in Dublin these days? I don't want to have to buy something afterwards either, just want my test done and then get out of there :p

Early bird tests for €5 in Supersaver opticians, Talbot St (near junction with Gardiner St)

No connection, just pass the place most days!

I got a printed prescription from SS a few months ago, and it didn't have pupil distance on it. The guy had to write the PD at the bottom of the printout. Not sure if this has changed since....

No, theres no pupil distance on it, but thats easy to get

Got my eyes tested in Specsavers Grafton Street yesterday. Was €30 euro altogether, but I think some of that was because I asked for a contact lens prescription as well. The receipt shows the price for the standard test and contact lens aftercare whatever that is. Went home and ordered two pairs from Zenni, cost me a whopping €42 altogether! Between Zenni Soft and Daysoftlens eyecare is seriously affordable

The delivery from Zenni is super at the moment as well - received two pairs of glasses in less than a week.

Mistakenly bought a city deal for an opticians in town and while the glasses were pricey I accepted that but it was another €100 to get the glass put in. Cancelled that and went back to Zenni - the glasses don't last forever but suit me fine.

I've been there this morning and I got the eye test for €5. Told the staff upfront I need only the test and there was no hassle with it. I only had to ask the them to put the PD on prescription (wont need it next time since I know it now).

Thank you for this tip. ;)

Another way to measure your own PD is if you have a serious pair of binoculars. On most of these when you adjust the width until you can see properly, there's a mark in mm on the rotating bit that is your PD. or you can measure the distance between the left edge of one eyepiece to the left edge of the other.

I just found this site, they reckon that their online PD test will give you a measurement thats accurate to .01

    http://www.finestglasses.com/TryOn/PDSelfTest.aspx

(needs access to your webcam, it may tell you another program is using it but just click ok and then refresh the page)

Is there anyone here knows what their PD is and would be willing to test this out to confirm that the results of this online test are accurate?

Wow , interesting, this would be great!

    I just tried it.

According to Specsavers my PD is 64.
I got 64.2 on the above.
It requires you to measure the frame width of your current glasses and you input this.

I measured the glasses with a measuring tape so could be out by a mm or 2.
So reckon it is fairly accurate.

Bought a pair on the 12th, arrived on the 18th. Fast service and glasses are great quality. $40 in total with the $15 coating, much better quality wise compared to goggles4u.

    Hi All,

I came across this thread yesterday, and have tried several times to access the site, but fail each time.
"Firefox can't find the server at www.zennioptical.com."
It also fails in IE & Chrome.

Is the site usually flakey, or has it been down?

    Thanks.

Forgive me for bumping an old (ish) thread, but I recently ordered a pair of glasses from Zenni, and as previously mentioned, happy would be an under-statement.

I was a tiny bit sceptical to be honest,so I ordered a relatively cheap pair from them on 1st.September, and they were delivered yesterday.Total cost, €25. I'll be back on later to get some more, and sunglasses also.

On the PD measurement thing, most frames seem to have a range for the PD value, so I don't it's that critical if you are a couple of mm out either way.

Anyone know what the postage is for goggles4u.com (US) to Ireland?
Their customer service have given me three conflicting answers.

    Look at http://www.goggles4u.co.uk/

About a year back I got free delivery. May be that was some kind of offer.

Since then I have ordered from zenni. Their quality seems a bit better than goggles4u.

I finally ordered a pair. The postage is $6.95 to Ireland.
So I got a basic pair of prescription specs for $11.88 :)

Based on the feedback on boards I went mad and ordered 3 pairs from Zenni last week. One designer pair, a frameless pair (both with extra thin oleophobic lenses) and a pair of cheapo 6.95 frames (just to see what they are like). I have to say I'm blown away by the quality. The expensive glasses are almost on a par with my €300 Columbia frames. The 6.95 glasses are fine - a but thicker frames than I usually go for, but grand for a spare pair. All 3 pairs were €100 all in. The only critisism I have is that they don't do the hinges that bend both ways. No big deal with the frameless as they are memory titanium. But even then, I could replace the other pair 10 times for what I pay for a nice frame in my local opticians.

They do ...if you type "spring hinges" into the search box it will return what you are looking for. The chat is helpful...that is where I got that info.

I placed the order on 17th, then on 19th I got the notification that order had been sent out
    I received the order today - 21st.
    More than impressive, I think!
Paid $10 for the delivery (2 glasses)

Looking at this thread, I can't believe how fast the deliveries have come for some of you! I am disappointed myself as I ordered on July 31st and still no package :-( I don't have an issue waiting, I suppose my expectation was set wrong reading the delivery times quoted.
It left Los Angeles August 14th so no idea when it will arrive.

Posting this in case anyone is reading over the threads for advice, it seems their delivery policies may have changed from 2011 & 2012 and it possibly takes longer now.

I have just ordered a pair of Ray Ban "frames only" from Goggles4U,but would just like to know if i will have any hassle from Specsavers were I will be having an eye test in the near future fitting these frames with my prescription lenses.
Did not order the lenses because I did not have a prescription. and will be getting varifocals which are quit expensive.
