Old habits die hard and I blundered onto the RPSI website tonight and couldn't resist revisiting an old friend (?) Never thought I would see the day when No.131. would haul a train but here she is out on trial last November. We could have saved ourselves a lot of pain if she had gone straight to Whitehead from the plinth at Dundalk. :D

    Evening folks,

We start off the 2018 round of photos with a visit to Cork, Cobh and Midleton. The main reason for my trip was to see the new station entrance at Cork.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't that kind with Storm Eleanor rolling in across the country.

    The Republic's second city !

The station entrance facing the city centre !

This is what CIE / NTA think is appropriate architecture for Cork station's entrance from the city !

    God help us !

Lidl / Aldi / Dunnes / Tesco would be ashamed of this in their carparks.

    Evening folks,

It seems I jinxed 216 last night after my spin to Cork behind it yesterday. It was hauled back from Cork to Inchicore this morning hauled by 219. I was lucky enough to catch it passing Clonkeen, Portlaoise just before 1300.

After working the 0530 Galway - Heuston on Monday the 15th January, the hybrid 6ICR set 22002 (22001) was sent to Laois Traincare Depot on the as required 0905 empty path, for the set to be reformed to 3ICR sets in their original formations of 22301 + 22401 + 22201 and 22302 + 22402 + 22202.

22001 is required back in its original formation for testing of the CAWS/ATP hybrid signalling system between Limerick Jct. and Charleville in the coming weeks. Once the testing is complete the set will be once again reformed back to the hybrid 6 car 22002 (22001) set.

Any idea when they will make a decision, they appear to be testing it for a long time and will single lines still operate in blocks?

AFAIK it is going ahead with fitting to start at a exact date to be decided.

Limerick Jct. - Charleville is being fitted with the track based equipment at the moment so the use of 22001 is to mainly test the infrastructure equipment as well as a few more train tests. Even though the cabs of 22001 have been buried (coupled cab to cab), the staff on the project have been making visits to it in Heuston/ Inchicore every so often as development work is still ongoing.

Final observation, flooding often happens in a few area's, I hope it won't be a case of the yellow things not working if there is low level water covering them but not the rail head.

I bet fitting out the fleet of 22000 will be fun unless you can do it with the old system operating as normal until a full refit is done and then remove the old.

    Evening all,

A bit of a PWD update this evening with pictures of 088 arriving at Portlaoise with a rail train from North Wall. Later on I stumbled upon it shunting the CWR train at Portlaoise PWD Yard. Earlier today 073 brought the Sperry Train from Mallow to Portlaoise.

In other photos, Monday starts off with 222 hauling failed MKIV set 4001 past Portlaoise and a few MKIV sets passing Rosskelton today.
