That's a pity about Fionn Dowling. He has had a horrible run of bad luck with injuries.

Kevin Feely would be a very interesting addition to the Kildare panel even if it was only for a few months. Ger McNally quoted Pascal Kellaghan on twitter last night saying that if he was the Kildare manager then he would be in touch. Kildare's first match is still four weeks away so there would be plenty of time to get him in and get some football under his belt in the meantime.

Good win in the Christy Ring down in Arklow this afternoon. Very tough task against Kerry next weekend.

Kildare team (v Longford, Leinster MFC 17/5/14):

    1. Tadhg Foley - Athy
    2. Sean Healy - Moorefield
    3. Mark Hyland - Athy
    4. Cian McConnell - Sarsfields
    5. Jamie Flynn - Round Towers
    6. Paul Mescal - Maynooth
    7. Conor Earley - Raheens
    8. Rory Feely - Athy
    9. Eoghan Boyle - Rathangan
    10. Evan Flynn - Round Towers
    11. Conor Hartley - Sarsfields
    12. Stefan Lawlor - Rathangan
    13. Ethan O Donoghue - Clane
    14. Sean Dempsey - Sarsfields
    15. Ben McCormack - Sarsfields

Big improvement needed from the Westmeath game against a Longford team who pushed Dublin all the way. It's a shame this clashes with the Christy Ring game against Kerry in Newbridge and the Kildare GAA raceday in Punchestown.

Great battling display by the minor footballers against a strong Longford team. Started and finished poorly in normal time but looked a right good side when they got a run on Longford. Better impact off the bench won it for us in the end.

Heard the hurling result. No surprise really. Kerry are very strong this year and Kildare are a bit disorganised at the moment.

Also hope that the two players that were involved in the totally accidental but nasty looking clash early on in the match make a speedy recovery.

And I also see that we will meet louth in our championship opener in croke park ..
now that one hell ot a bogey team for kildare.

Terrible memories of facing louth... one day 1990s on a bus we went to drogheda thinking it was the first step to A1 final having just been beaten in the league final. The craic wasnt mighty on the way home.

At least we managed to scrape out a lucky win against them last year. Aidan O'Rourke will have them well organised again and if Kildare are anyway below their best Louth will win.

1991, Micko's first championship match in charge. Sweltering hot day and a packed house in Drogheda, no health and safety back then! Stefan White scored two ridiculous goals and Kildare just had no time to recover. They beat us well in Newbridge in 1995 during Dermot Earley's stint as manager. Colin Kelly was in inspired form that night.

We scraped past them in Croke Park in 2000 after Padraig Graven scored a dodgy enough penalty after it looked like he had been fouled outside the square. Also beat them by a point in 2002 in Navan. Enda Murphy pulled off some unbelievable saves and Brian Lacey needed stitches after being hit over the head by a mad Louth woman wielding an umbrella! They ended John Crofton's reign in the 2007 qualifiers with a convincing win in Newbridge. They also consigned us to the backdoor in 2010 after a great game in Navan. Last year in Newbridge was nip and tuck all the way until we pulled away in the last ten minutes.

Considering our championship record against them, I would snap your hand off if you offered me a one point win!

    Christy Ring:

    Derry 0-10 Kildare 2-15

Good result for the lads bouncing back from last weekend.

Less than 2 weeks to championship and expectations in Kildare are as low as I have ever seen it, while it seems that even if we get to the Leinster Final a drubbing is inevitable, I think there is much more room for optimism as we would have got there after 2 stringent tests while the Dubs would be aiming to peak for the quarter finals, sayng that theres only 1 game that matters and that is against Louth. Here is the team I would like to see line out:

    Connolly
    Fitzpatrick
    P. Kelly
    Lyons
    Cribben
    F. Conway
    McGrillen
    Moolick
O Neill( Spoil as much ball as possible against their midfield)
    Callaghan
    Kelly
    O Flaherty
    Brophy
    O Connor
    Mulhall

Plenty of options on the bench-Hurley, Smith, McNally, Bolton, Hyland, Foley etc. so with a first half where we dont ship a lot of scores I think we could potentially win this by 4-5 points

it's amazing alright in the space of two or three years the backside can fall out of a team, at the same time a couple of wins would pick everything back up again.

    Meath 0-7 Kildare 1-9 HT

Tony Murphy got the goal in the first minute. Kildare are hurling well but still a lot of work to do in the second half.

    Meath 0-13 Kildare 1-18 FT

Great stuff from the lads. They have really started to turn things around after a fairly miserable league. We rode our luck a bit in the second half with Dermody saving a dodgy Meath penalty. Finished very strongly and in good shape for a crack at Kerry now in Croke Park as underdogs. Delighted for everyone involved in Kildare hurling today.

Well done to all behind the open night for the hurlers in Hawkfield tonight ahead of the final on Saturday.

Darroch Mulhall is apparently injured and will not feature on Sunday. Huge loss if true. O'Grady is also a loss. Possibly our two best players in the league.

Mulhall had his appendix out. He will be unavailable for a while.

Not a sarsfields or a moorefield man in site???

Did they not contest the county final last year?

I see a short summer on the horizon.

I would be very surprised if there are not a few changes to that team. We cannot line out that way surely?

There'll have to be changes to the setup and starting line-up. I can't see Emmet Bolton at corner back.

It would be a major surprise if he doesn't swap with Ollie Lyons who will mark Derek Maguire.

I would expect at least two personnel changes after talking to a few heads today who are a lot closer to the panel than I am.

Kildare hurling out of their skins but a point down at the break. Need to keep up the pace and get more ball into Gerry Keegan and Tony Murphy. Kerry are hitting a lot of wides.
