Time to reverse Stupid Nanny State Laws

Finished work late last Friday night, went to a mates house was about 9.45pm when I arrived, we arsed around chatting for a few minutes and decided we'd go get a few beers and chill out for the evening maybe watch some highlights of the golf, nothing to heavy as we all had things to do the following morning.

Now do you think we could get a six pack after 10pm, I have to say this is one of the most stupid laws left over from the tiger. I worked all week, drove two hours up to meet my mates and we couldn't get beer. Stupid Law, brought in by stupid politicians caving into a stupid minority.

Sick of putting up with stupid Nanny State laws which have no respect for adult tax payers and peoples freedom of choice.

Anymore stupid laws out there?
Thinking of starting a velvet revolution seen as the youth/emo/students haven't done their traditional part and rioted against them all.

Not being able to buy drink before midday on a Sunday. Last orders at 11pm on a Sunday in bars. Not everyone works 9-5 Mon-Fri, a good chunk of the population don't work at all anymore. No drink on Good Friday. They are just the drink related laws that are Nanny'ish and or religion related.

You don't have to look to hard to figure out what went on with the change in that law.

More than a few politicians at the time that law came out were publicans. Pub trade started a decline due to the number of people buying from off licenses and staying home.

Lo and behold out comes a change in the law to close off licenses after 10.

So was it brought in A: To help curb anti-social drinking, prevent under age drinking etc
or B: To help the lads who own pubs to keep making money.

Im sure the OP situation would annoy me but owing to my child infested life I have to plan my home alcohol stock with some consideration.
SO THE ONE THAT GETS ME (Sorry.....I'll count to ten...) is trying to buy a bottle of wine or gallon of Buckfast in the mornings in a supermarket to be told they are not allowed to sell before a certain time.:mad:

My local centra doesn't have a security guard. It's common practice for lads to walk in and take what beer they want then throw the money on the counter. They usually overpay aswell. I think it's pretty funny.

I usually go to the pub but it would have involved a taxi ride both ways and access to more drink than we needed. I usually get drunk in the pub, just wanted to chill with a 6 pack and wake up fine. As I said I didn't get to sit down after work until close to 10pm. Surley to God i'm entitled to a few beers after a weeks work.

We went to M&S to buy the meal deal and had to prowl the shop - along with several others - as it was only 10.15 and they couldnt sell the deal to us with the wine until 10.30am! Ridiculous.

I’m driving home from the hospital after the birth of my first born. Been up all the previous night. Stop at garage and get 2 bottles of beer. The attendant says ‘sorry, it’s 10.05pm – can’t sell you them’.
I briefly consider explaining my situation and that I just want to go home and have a couple of beers while pondering the miracle of life I’ve just witnessed.
But I know before I start that my pleas will fall on deaf ears – so instead I drive to a nearby dodgy estate and purchase some heroin, I quickly become hooked and my marriage, my career and my life quick spiral out of control. I lose everything that was once precious to me and spend my days on the streets begging and getting high.

Despite this I think the law in this case is reasonable and may in fact curb underage drinking somewhat.

Completely agree OP, it's absolutely nonsensical. Amazed that some above are actually criticising the guy for just wanting to buy a few cans after 10pm - surely it's his choice to do so if he feels like it? Well, it should be but it's not. The idea that clubs have to close at the exact same time on the weekend is insanely short-sighted too - a great way to ensure that no-one can get a taxi home and that all the angry drunk guys get thrown out at the same time

There's no bother getting drink at our local garage after 10pm as long as they know you. I often went up to the 24hr hatch at 3am & got a bottle of wine.
The law is stupid mind you, stupid publican lobby.

Just set the times around the average time a pub would close. Even 12am would make more sense than 10pm.

1. Extra two hours pay for someone
2. Extra money made from late drinkers, or people coming home from work.
3. People stop feckin whinging.

Very rarely drink myself, But I think the drink laws are a disgrace here. Id be against any moves to stop supermarkets selling cheap booze.
