dC you are correct, there is some funny circumstances, it was not until a few years ago that the sporting rights reverted to some landowners as it had to go 12 years (I think it's 12) without screaming Lord Such exercising right and shooting there land once a year.

The OP wanted to shoot on a lake that is mentioned on the Foreshore application, so in that regards he is covered.
One can launch a boat in Athlone and moor it on the foreshore of lough ree and stand in rushes and shoot Duck all day long, but step out past the bank and you are on private property

Some clever Chaps sold their rights of rivers etc before going back to merry old England back in the day.

Like all things Irish we have our laws and we have pre-1922 laws that are still valid and can be used by a barrister if they are crooked enough to sort their own purpose.

Keep Farmer happy, Keep wildlife ranger happy and then we are all happy is what I say!

And make sure you fill out the Forms (and don't end up like a farmer in this weeks Farmers Journal ;) )

Lads, new to waterfowl shooting. Just wanted to ask yous what is the story in shooting waterfowl at the lakes (good few lakes around me area). Do you need special permission, for it? Permission from who ever owns the land near the lake or what? Just want to have an idea before 1st of september comes. Thanks.

Apply to NPWS for a section 30 Permit its free !!!
and lasts for five years , it allows you to hunt over marine foreshore and over foreshore of state lakes (formally Crown waters)- excluding sanctuary areas

About shooting on rivers I have land on the river barrow (good duck shooting ) and according to the deeds and department of ag os maps I own to the centre of the river so permission comes from me and not the government I give permission to the local fishing club and never got asked about shooting (shoot it myself)

Section 30 Permits /Permission comes from the State via NPWS , it permits lawful hunting
on marine and state lake foreshore only
    Rivers are different
If your maps (folio and not dept of Ag maps ) show your ownership boundary to mid river this does not mean you also own or the hunting or fishing rights ...to be sure these rights will be mentioned on your property deeds
if this is the case its up to you then to allow who does or does not hunt on your property
(fished the Barrow around 1980 and went to Mageny? near Carlow Town for a session afterwards, lovely river , great memories)
