There was an incident in Athlumney Abbey this evening involving the Travellers and residents of the Abbey. Our football tournament started this evening and during the course of play, some traveller children aged 13yrs/14yrs interrupted play by taking the ball.It was then noticed that a couple of vans were driving around the area stealing anything that was not nailed down from people’s gardens .Front and back. There were at least 8 people in the back of each van. The residents made chase and the vans mounted the green area’s. The Gardai were called and one officer showed up on a push bike. The travellers were escorted out of the estate but they promised to come back to our area and destroy houses, cars etc.

The Gardai informed residents to be extra vigilant, they could follow through with their threat. There was nothing more they could do. But just to let you all know they are in the area and will be watching houses. Please inform your own residents not to leave kids bikes and toys out front and to make sure sheds are locked up each evening. Do not leave valuables on show in your car too. The family of travellers involved are well know for stealing. There was 1 white van and 1 Blue van involved. If seen in your area, please report to the Gardai.

If I contact Pavee Point will they 'Sort em out'?

And people think travellers are terrible? I can't imagine a family of settled people going on a family day out in a van, to terrorise residents and children in an estate, trying to have a football tournament. The Garda probably can't do anything because the travellers have their 'rights'. Sweet Justice.

I think you'll find that this thread is racist. Travellers are their own ethnic group and as such it is unfair to expect them to align themselves with the cultural norms of settled society.

    Or something.

I do feel sorry for anyone in this situation. Gards aren't going to do a damn thing for fear of being labelled as discriminating against a minority.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

OK OK, I've put in the place names. Was just trying to be a little discreet. Probably better, incase any boards users living in the area read this.

Theres some bag eggs alright, but many are the friendliest, most loyal, genuine people you can meet. I remember one time I got myself into a bit of bother and some travelers where passing by, they came over, and tbh because of the prejudice which most Irish people have inbuilt I was very wary, but they helped me no questions asked and made sure I was ok.

You can be sure as fcuk the divine settled folk wouldn't have lent a hand.

Thats a load of BS. The Gardai would be as happy to arrest "travellers" as anyone, if they have a case against them.

    You're quite right sir.
Members of the settled community would never commit any act of robbery or indeed any other crime.

That's what separates us from the Travelers you see.

One of the most horrible lines I hear fairly regularly.
Cars robbed: Person KNOWN for robbing cars
House Burgled: Person KNOWN for Burglary
Person attacked: Person KNOWN for being violent

There is something very wrong with the system if such people are known for such dreadful criminal activity, but are free to victimise more people! I lament.

I can't understand why people say things like "Oh I met one traveller before somewhere for reason, and eh, he was ok, he didn't rape me, burgle me, beat me, break into my house or anything, . . he was sound, they all are".

How many settled people help you out through your life?

And the other one of how a traveller bought someone a pint. Sure isn't it your money he bought it with. You'll never have HIS money in your pocket. Which reminds me of Bertie Ahern. Bought a guy a pint, man was chuffed to bits, not knowing that this millionaire bought him a drink which he himself has paid for. HA.

We dont have enough prisons and the gardai have their hands tied most of the time, due to a judiciary that dont live in the real world.
