WD40 is OK, but it lifts easily if you touch it. Remington Oil is very good.
I use both Oils in different places, as some moving parts work better with lighter oils like WD40, some prefer more grease based oils

i rember i was in a gun shop once and heard the man saying to a customer that any oil was ok to use except wd40.dont know why.maybe because its only good for getting rid of water and not lubricating. wd40 stands for water dispersant and they got it on the 40th attempt:p

    LAWD,
WD-40 is a penetrant and not a lubricant. If you just use WD40 for general cleaning it will clear away good lubricants and leave you with metal that will rust.

Take a bicycle chain and clean it with WD40. If you do not put some kind of a lubricant on it, she'll show signs of rust in a day or two.

Once I had the misfortune of dropping a shotgun into freshwater, long story. It was either peg the firearm up a two story ditch, or spend the night in the bog.

Anyhow, the second I got home the gun was cleaned with a full can of WD40. However, the moving parts got the Rem Oil before she was reassembled.

As mentioned by Dupont, WD stands for water displacement. It took the US Navy 40 tries to get it right...

Anyhow, also keep in mind that you do not just want to shoot everything in sight with a lubricant. Too much lubricant, I am told, can combine with particles and create a sludge that will increase wear.

I clean my barrel with Hoppe's #9 (apparently Mr. Hoppe was better than the Navy at formulae!). I shoot the rest of the metal parts with some Rem Oil. Then I dry to the point that the pieces are not dripping. Just enough of a film to coat. Next, I always check the lube points from the manufacturer and hit them with some Hoppe's Lube.

    Works for me.

As Dupont says wd40 is not a proper lubricater and will only be good for dispersing water. Stick to a proper gun oil.

    Times are tough
Make up some Ed's Red and you will have enough for a long time plus you can give some to your shooting buddies.
    :D

Brunox is an excellent oil. it,s also great for removing fouling if left overnight in the barrels.

Never use WD-40 on your gun, it is a penetrating oil! Get a can of gun oil from your gun dealer

Get a can of tech 7 degreaser and clean your gun down with it,then use a gun oil to lubricate.
Try stay away from wd-40 it will **** your gun up and will cause rust on the steel if not rubbed off.
