I'm pretty sure that Mayo's first win over Galway in tuam stadium in the mid 90's was in the FBD league. There wasn't a lot of thought given to it then but it was a precrusor to the championship wins there that followed. Never under-estimate the physology of winning at a ground no matter what's on offer on a particular day

I would say people are vastly more likely to overestimate the significance of such an event rather than underestimate it.

Ya and it will mean that Ros will be in the AI semis now next year based on the fact they beat Mayo in McHale. It had to happen at some stage, wouldn't read into it too much.

Honestly would agree in most cases but with our recent record against both Mayo and Galway any win at McHale is quite useful, particularly in a year that the form book would point to a Roscommon-Mayo Connacht final in McHale. Given our last two senior visits resulted in 20 and 12 point losses it was clear McHale held some trepidation for Roscommon teams. It's been much more friendly a hunting ground at underage and that probably more than an FBD match points to a changing attitude in the players.

For us it's one less distraction (the losing streak) if this what it comes down to in July.

Have you read Shane Curran "Cake" book syferus??
Interesting take on macstay I just hope we don't regret not signing him as manager when we had the chance, this two joint manager Craic
Could cause more trouble for the players than its worth.

McStay identified goalkeeping as a big weakness of Brigids when he came in and convinced (though I dunno how much convincing Cake would need to run onto a field) Shane to return. That decision alone was nessecary for Brigids to get over the hump, but it wasn't the only thing he did by any means.

McStay had proven he could take perennial challengers over the line already, indentifying what needed fixing and what didn't. If Mayo wanted to take the moonshot option and make the best possible attempt to win the AI this year, investing the same freedoms Horan was allowed in McStay was clearly the right option in my eyes.

Politics scuppered that. Connelly I think is quite a good manager in his own right, we'll see if returning to the well with Holmes was a good or bad choice for Mayo. McStay will get his chance with some county and I honestly hope it's with Roscommon. A good man and a good manager.

It was actually McStay's demands which scuppered that as opposed to politics. I'm sure McStay felt his were resonable but the powers that be felt the numbers didn't and wouldn't in the long run. The bigest mistake in the whole process was the ex-chairman agreeing to confidentiality as opposed to just divulging what the "package" was which essentially ruled out McStay. It would have provided clarity for everyone

    It's only the FBD League.

Jaysus, ye're gloomier than the Cork supporters. You'd swear Brian Cuthbert had brought ebola to the rebel county along with a one point defeat to Waterford on a useless pitch.

Will the FBD even be noticed or remembered by then? If that game comes about it will be more than 29 years since the last Ros championship win in Castlebar by then. FBD and even national league results are usually removed from the stats come summer time.

I don't think the FBD League or the other provincial cups even rank as competitive matches for intercounty football.

However, going by the success of Galway and Roscommon at u-21 level it was probably just a question of when this kind of result would happen, so the victory has some signifigance. Even if C&H maintain the same high standards that Horan set it's unlikely we'll see another four in a row. Galway or Roscommon will have their day in the sun, maybe not this year but soon enough. I see that as a good thing for Mayo. A tough Connacht championship could be the making of them.

    .

I really don't think joint managers will be the problem a lot here reckon it will be.

These guys have worked together and have been successful before.

Its not as if they are working together as some sort of a compromise

I understand that but if it's so good why don't other counties have join managers?
If they can do what they achieved before then we are on a winner we will have to wait and see I sapose

It's like everything in sport, if Mayo win an All-Ireland with joint managers, you can be sure five or six counties will have joint managers the following year.

Because, as far as Im aware, it was Connelly's decision to have Holmes involved, not the county boards

It didn't do Galway any harm either they went on to win Sam twice shortly afterwards!
