That said, I have to point out - for fear of getting thumped on the head with a metallic mathematical box set - that looks aren't what counts.

    They're all equally retarded.

Wicca, or any of those Neopagan sects that feature witchcraft and sorcery, would be the first to springs to mind. They're really niche religions so it's not even like there's any social or cultural to subscribe to its views, as there would be for, say, Catholicism in Ireland. They're basically religions for adults who can't come to terms with the fact magic (or "magick," Jesus wept) powers aren't real, so they band together with like-minded folk to conviince each other they really can cast spells.

Conservative Christianity of the American kind always get me as well. If I were a Christian looking for guidance, the question I'd find myself asking would be "What would Jesus do?"

I doubt the answer would be to amass as much material wealth as possible, rail against the fact that a relatively small portion of this wealth is deducted in the form of taxes and given to poorer people, and hate from the depth of your heart anything and anyone that deviates from your narrow view of what's good, or "Christian" and "American;" loudly condemning them to hell and attempting to manipulate legislation so that these groups are actively discriminated against on a legal level.

The belief that your beliefs are better than anyone elses, whether you're Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Atheist, Wiccan, or whatever.

So, all of them accept atheism then?

Well first let's take atheist out as that's more to do with theism. What you are saying then is that none of these beliefs actually know anymore about the supernatural than the other and as all of them claim to be the one true belief it would be an arrogant fool who prescribes to anyone of them.
Therefore you are left with more rational ideas (than defined religions) like theism or atheism. So then a generic theist or atheist should see their belief (or lack thereof) as better than the others who have no reason to follow their beliefs.

Or had you thought your statement through anymore than "that sounds catchy"

What I'm saying is that I think that the belief that is held by many people from different religions & beliefs that their beliefs/religion is better than the next persons is stupid and arrogant.

The way I'm reading ShooterSF's argument is that a generally theistic or generally atheistic position could be justifiably considered "better" because it's unspecific, and doesn't pertain to be absolute truth on an unknowable topic.

Besides, I think some people's beliefs are better than some other people's. I think that my beliefs, which don't involve FGM, or honour killing the guy who gets my daughter pregnant, or commiting mass suicide, are way superior to those that do.

The word "better" is ill-defined. But I wonder is the above your belief?

which hardly any "catholics" believe in or even know what it is.

They're all equally silly, and should be ridiculed as such. Its why people who are religious criticising stuff like Scientology makes me laugh, the only difference between a cult and church is numbers and longevity. bombs hidden in volcanos and aliens? madness, but a boat with every animal on earth on it, talking snakes, virgin births, 72 virgins, paedophile prophets who you cant draw and other assorted wackiness? perfectly fine.

How do you know this? How do you know that one isn't better?

Is the belief that "Those who think their beliefs are better than the next persons are stupid and arrogant" not also stupid and arrogant?

Or are you saying you know the truth of your statement somehow?
    - if so explain how you know and are so certain than one of the beliefs isn't better

I wonder how many people are now seated at the right hand side of god? As that seems to be the "in" place to be.
Are the people on the left hand side jealous and scheming to get moved to the right hand side?
Why is Peter standing guard outside heaven if the saved go straight to heaven and the condemmed go straight to hell? Paperwork maybe?:D

For me scientology and creationists have to be up there as the dumbest and most gullible.

muslim jew and christian are pretty much the same, indoctrination usually has to start at a young age.

But is there really any difference in believing in any of them?
Should you be allowed / encouraged to hold these contradictory beliefs?
without any doubt, the most dumbest, retardest, gullible, paranoid gob****esss, are the jehovah witness, any one who worships electricity, and hide behind closed curtains, and think every day is the last day, must be the greatest ****"ing morons of all time.:pac::pac::pac:

Teach children how to think critically.

Asking which religion is the dumbest is akin to asking which myth-Roman,Greek,Irish etc- is the dumbest, pointless but fun.
Personally I always thought that Ferdia was the better warrior and would have won that fight ,up until the moment cuchulain used that spear that never missed.

There's plenty of education threads - this isn't one of them.
