I'm not surprised. It seems like a lot of women in Ireland at the moment are either pregnant or recently had kids.

Ah yes, all those lovely Polish women - wish I was 40 years younger!;)

If Polish-Irish kids are "Polirish", what would you call a woman who is half Irish and half Finnish? I know one who just became a barrister in Dublin.:)

    All suggestions welcome.:D

There's riding like rabbits but there's little excuse for creating a child that you can't afford.

BTW, Accidents happen and all that, so not being inconsiderate to anyone who's been careful and still got caught, but my point is that accidents wouldn't account for a countrywide statistic.

I don't know how non weathly people can keep having children or even have one child.

Because first of all you need to be very healthy to have a baby. Secondly you suitable, dependable and supportive boyfriend/partner Third, you need a stable, secure good paying job with an understanding employer. Fourth, you need a live a house or a spacious apartment. Fifth, you need to have a car, Sixth, you need a bit of support network like people/family around you to help you. Seventh, if you don't have anyone to help you out you have to pay alot for child care. Eighth, you need a lot of energy you to have the energy and the time for a baby if you are working five days a week 45 hours a week. Thinking about all of that makes me very tired and depressed. Well the cenus indicates the growth in poplulation is the highest in europe so most people here are financially okay or otherwise to be able to have children.

You have it totally wrong... 1 or 2 kits cost a lot, but once you go over 6 kids it nearly pays of itself you get all types of grants, allowances.

If you are a normal family with 2 kids with normal wage, you are ****ed if they go to university trying to pay for everything.. If you have 6 kids in uni then they get grants, do you don't have to pay as much

    Work the system.

Why to you think travellers have 8+ kids.... because they are creaming the system .

I am not wrong. What do you think i am an dog or cat having litters of kittens? People are not born to reproduce like animals. If i am physically strong enough and able to have one child in the future i would be happy. Most Irish women can reproduce like anything but not all of them and certainly not me. That is really very greedy and sad that some women only aspire to do nothing with their lives but reproduce by having a lot of babies, how would they have the time, energy and support for all of that and some women are struggling to just have one.
I don't want to live on welfare all my life what kind of life is that. There is a good chance you will get a poor council house or estate where there can be a lot of social problems.

Well in my opinion its better to have things in place practically before bringing a child in to the world but its not as easy as that though for everyone.

    1. You list a series of preconditions for having children as if you are an authority on the subject. 2. You comment on how phased you are by either the list or by people not meeting the preconditions. 3. Some other stuff.

I doubt that you will reproduce given your own set of preconditions for doing so & the fact that you came up with such a list & the fact that you seem completely lacking awareness that it's just your own wish list & the fact that you are so easily tired & depressed... plus the fact that you so easily jump to whining about how messed up something that was said to you in AH is...

The immense stupidity of your precondition of owning a car alone is enough for me to wonder how natural selection let you through the gates to this world.

On topic, given the population decline figures in the EU, this birth rate boom isn't a bad thing.

What's a bad thing is not learning two or three European languages of some business importance, not developing a knowledge of Mathematics & IT, plus lacking the skills/aspiration to become self employed.

Not necessarily surprising that we have the highest natural rate of change in Europe, after all we have the youngest age profile in Europe. The median age in Ireland is a mere 34 years.

I would imagine that is slightly more relevant than the recession, if anything families might be more likely to put off having children during a recession.

And the research does not show that the Irish are the most prolific in Europe. I am not sure if that is the case, it may be, but that is not what is shown here.

My comment was a bit T&C. Not matter how much money you have,, lots of children can be draining on a women if there is no support.

Personally I think 3 is my max... certainly my wife will NOT have anymore. (#3 was a surprise but she is not sorry)_

Well if you happen to become pregnant and your boyfriend/partner left you. You have health problems, You have no job, no prospects, on welfare and living in a little bedsit and you don't have any friend or much of a family. How are you cope? How would you be able to buy the necessary things a baby needs like a buggy and that and you don't drive or even have a car, how on earth would you cope?

Some people do not have actually anything or anyone at all. So stop being hateful at the pre-conditions. I didn't say they are all necessary but most people have one of two of them circumstances in general and there are few not very hard isolated circumstances like the ones as I described above.

The immense stupidity of your precondition of owning a car alone is enough for me to wonder how natural selection let you through the gates to this world. - thats hateful thing to say.
A car would be necessary if you are not wealthy, how can you afford taxis and rely on buses to bring your baby to the hospital or to even move to a more suitable place.

i think we have the highest welfare rates for mothers, people with 3 kids get more than the average wage, and sex education in many schools is not a high priority. Is this a coincidence ,or is it we just have a young population.IN some areas 16 year old girls are having kids. And of course abortion is not readily avaidable in ireland. Most single mothers get help from family and friends.
