Fluoridation of Our Water Supply

What is your opinion on this? Most "professionals" are in agreement that it can have detrimental effects for our health, with very few benefits. It's purpose is dental health for teenagers, but it can cause dental fluoridosis (can't remember exact name) and therefore, damage dental health! It is also thought to increase risk of Alzheimer's disease and irritable bowel syndrome, and cancer, to mention but a few.

We're now the only country in Europe to add it to our water supply, which should be an indication of the potential harm it can cause, and it's imported from Spain as a toxic waste product.

I don't know if this is the correct section in which to post this, but I feel it's not just a medical issue. I find it bizarre that this is added to our water with little or no benefits, and huge risks. Our government should consider discontinuing the addition of fluoride to our water now, in my opinion.

    Thoughts?

You get this thought during the physical act of love? ...a profound sense of fatigue fell on you? Yeah.

From a purely engineering point of view, flouride is a toxic by product of industrial production systems. Its dear to get rid of, unless a "use" can be "found". Toothpaste is that "find". Enjoy.

    oooh this again.

one question, why is professionals in inverted commas? do they not get paid?

But toothpaste isn't actually consumed, water is. It has no consequences in toothpaste, I think.

I just said that because the term professional is thrown around a bit casually these days. :pac:

absolutly correct, because you spit it "all" out, don't you.
If most people knew the toxic sh1t that is contained in a lot of what we eat, drink and use, they would still not give a damn, because -look, man-u are 2-1 up.

I still get tooth ache if I don't brush my teeth. Ergo, it's not working. Fluoridation is at least a waste of money.

It has no consequence in water either because the amount is a tiny fraction of the concentrate thats in toothpaste, but sure carry on anyway.

Maybe a merge with the CT thread is the best place for this?

Does this Fluoridation cause apathy? Because it might explain how this nation rolls over and takes it up the ass quiet frequently.

Naah, a conspiracy is a strange view held by a few against the opinion of the majority, flouridation of water is a strange practice done by a few(1) against the better judgement of everyone else. Sure it does the poor, dumb paddy kids good - their teeth would all fall out without it. And its not toothpaste we're talking about dummies, its the water, and you drink that, you tend not to spit it out. And your kids drink it, and so don't mine, cos I drilled a well so they wouldn't have to. But then I'm rich, and poison is really only for the lower orders:rolleyes:

Anybody who clings to the idea that anything the Irish Govt decides, decrees or insists on is a world beating decision is sorely deluded. Between bailing out the banks and drugging the water with **** everyone else can't get rid of, they really are some bunch of tossers. No doubt a nice kickback is involved somewhere.

Sure isn't chlorine lethal in certain circumstances too, and thats added to water in swimmping pools and stuff.

Maybe it's added to aid dental health because in general, Irish people don't care about it as much as in other countries. Maybe thats to do with the cost of dentists here.

Huh, I had no idea about this. A quick look at wikipedia seems to confirm this. Most countries in europe either never added flouride or ceased years ago. Small amounts of the water supply of Spain + UK have flouride(10%) compared to Ireland (70%+). If it was really as good as we think in Ireland, wouldn't the use be significantly more widespread? I don't like it.

Indeed they do. In "poorer areas", to "aid dental health":D You just have to marvel at the innocence thats out there! By the way, anybody worked at any of the "water treatment plants" we have?? I have, and they are total, utter and feckin complete antiques, relics of a bygone age. Them and adding toxins to the water supply,"for our own good". Always worry when somthing is being done "for your own good". It seldom is. Anyhoo, carry on, nobodys going to take this seriously and I don't care, like I said, I drilled a well. Drink up.

There are many articles about it. I'm not going to find one for you, because by the time you read this you'll have forgotten what you're talking about as a result of Alzheimer's Disease, caused by your contaminated water supply. Enjoy!

Not enough sewage in it? The fish in the sea seem to much prefer large doses of human waste to survive.

If they suddenly removed all of the flouride from the system, would we as a nation go through withdrawal symptoms?

But you know all about this and the coroners and other doctors, scientists etc dont?
Take it that burnt food causes cancer (I'm neither saying it does or it doesn't, this is merely as a basis to debate). The person's death cert won't say "died from eating burnt toast", it will say "cancer" etc.

In the case of fluoride, Alzheimer's disease is often the way the damage manifests itself, although most Alzheimer's sufferers actually die of pneumonia. This means statistics can hide many observable truths, and shouldn't be taken at face value without further research.

Goldfish normally live in the sea, tap water is inherently designed for human consumption. Our bodies are different to Goldfishes. Level of chlorine in tap water can be fatal to a gold fish. There you go. Dechlorinate the water next time and see what happens.:)

Cars and all electronics in your home are toxic waste waste when you stop using them unless you can convince someone to buy them off you.

Buy a filter/drink bottled water instead of parroting unsupported allegations from random sites. Buy Euythemol.

you have not quoted any links from reputible sites (lancet nih vhi) or named any 'professionals'

The Irish dental association is on www.dentist.ie if you want to check out 'professionals'

I'm happy to have fluoride in my water. Though of course young children shouldn't be given too much toothpaste as they may ingest it.

I've had vaccinations that left me a little woosey and sore for a couple of days. But then again I've had measles and that was a lot worse and I wouldn't wish it.

Someday we may have a vaccine against streptococcus mutans

Well my first thought is that they don't use Fluoride in our water.. they use Hexafluorosilicic acid, an inorganic waste compound left over from the production of fertilizers.

My second thought is that these threads never end well. I'm against the mass-medication of the population though, even if it saves the lives of a few spastics that never heard of a toothbrush.

And last time I checked, eating chocolate is somthing we choose to do. I smoke, but i wouldn't support everyone being forced to do it. Like flouridated water, it's bad for you. Chlorine's not exactly health-giving either, but there you go. Oh look, X factors on.

Well it is news to me that we're the only ones in Europe doing it! That sounds pretty dodge tbh!

That's Ireland for ya.. rarely ahead of the curve when it comes to rethinking things.

Here's a list of stuff containing fluoride, and the amounts of it within each product

    http://www.ars.usda.gov/SP2UserFiles/Place/12354500/Data/Fluoride/F02.pdf

How anyone can actually think that it's still necessary to fluoridate the entire water supply, despite the fact that there's so many other sources of it these days is beyond me.. I'm sure that 50 odd years ago it was the best option. There wasn't such easy access to dentistry back then, and not much of an intake of fluoride from other sources.

Would it not be more effective to identify those most at risk, and work with them to alleviate the problem?

When they discontinued fluoridating water supplies in a Cuban city, they simultaneously introduced rinsing programs in schools. It had a massively positive effect.. the rate of caries in children decreased from 61.6% to 26.3%.

And that's Cuba.. a nation far less well off than Ireland. Of course there are other variables at play, but does such a change in numbers not warrant some scepticism in the practice?

Why not attempt to do what they did? Pro-actively tackle the problem rather than trying to make it go away while ignoring the cause..

Way to insult the rest of us. Nothing sensationalist in saying that I don't want my kids ingesting somthing that is listed on a haz-mat schedule as a toxic waste, on a daily basis. BTW I stated at the off that the scource for the flouride in our water was an industrial by-product, and i installed the racking in one of the plants that produces it. Just a small amount would knock you for six, diluting it just means it takes longer.
