It probably won't be out until some time in July. According to the exams office website, the repeats will start on August 10th.

This was one of the things I hated about repeating last year, the timetable didn't arrive before two weeks before the repeats started, and by that time, the flights had gotten much more expensive than they had been if I could only have booked in time.

I haven't gotten an email from them asking me do I want to work for the repeats so definitely no timetable yet!

Closing date for applying to do repeats hasn't yet passed, so they wouldn't be able to put a timetable together yet:)

Any sign of the time table yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 niltrapcm

Rang the exam office yesterday and they said it wont be available till the first week in August!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭GEKKO135

1ST WEEK OF AUGUST! ARE YOU SERIOUS? i'm working full time and i'm supposed to give at least 2-3 weeks notice. Good chance i wont get that time off if this is the case. What a joke

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

In fairness coming up with a timetable takes a decent amount of time considering they have to wait for all the appeals to clear first to know exactly how many modules will be sat in August. Plus they need to source staff which isn't easy in the summer. You know the date the exams start, book two weeks off from that date, then you can't go wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭ash xxx

Not trying to be funny here, but if people had of studied for their summer exams, they wouldn't have to repeat. Nobody to blame but oneself.

Don't think that comment was needed at all.

Yeah 100% serious! Its on the nuim website as well!! I have holidays abroad booked aswell and the one on the phone basically told me to cancel them! She wouldnt give me any information at all about the dates of the exams!

People have a variety of reasons for needing to repeat exams...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Loads of reasons, still doesn't mean you can tell someone when their exam is when it's not possible to even know yet. Or should the appeal process/time to decide if you want to repeat or not be scrapped in favour of swift timetabling so people can rearrange their social calendars to allow them to sit exams? I've plenty of empathy for people who genuinely failed due to some unforseen circumstance, but those people knew months ago they'd have to repeat and what dates the exam session would be. Those who didn't expect to fail should just suck it up, holidays/work or 5 grand in fees for a year of repeating?

In fairness there's no way the poster could have known that as tragic as it is. Sorry to hear that though, good luck in your exams!

Was that comment directed at everyone that has to repeat?? Because that's the way I read it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭ash xxx

Mr Tradein, of course in your situation or any extenuating circumstances, I have empathy, I have been there myself due to illness.

I was referring to the majority of people who fail due to not being prepared enough to sit their exams.

What comment? That one you've quoted clearly isn't. Note the bit were I explicitly say I've empathy for those who have to repeat due to unforeseen circumstances. Or did you not read it at all?

Can a mod remove this thread, please.

I'm not a troll at all, I post on here all the time. I am sorry to have offended you and I should of made it clear in my OP that the majority of people only have themselves to blame for failing exams.

Of course it is different if a person fails or is absent due to illness, bereavement or any extenuating circumstances. And I have complete sympathy for these people.

She apoligsed, just forget about it. Or report the post if you have issue with it.

I am actually, have to sit two as I was in hospital and had three operations in the last 7 months. As i said, not a troll.

Here, lads and ladies, I'm repeating a piece of CA(worth 50%) cause I submitted too late and got 0 but the examinations office is telling me I now need to resit the exam as well. Why is that?

I only need 40% at the most in the CA to pass the module totally (or less for compensation) so by the time I get round to doing the exam I will likely have passed anyway.

Will anything happen if I just don't bother showing up to the repeat? I really can't be arsed doing it and they cap the repeat exam at 40% anyway don't they?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭nothing

The cap only applies if you're in final year and you're repeating more than 15 credits, irish_goat.

I'm not sure about whether you have to resit the exam, perhaps speak to your course coordinator or department head, or even try the Academic Advisory office, any of those should be able to give you the best information.

If you dont go to the exam I think you would fail because I think the mark you got in your last exam is gone since you signed up for the repeats.

So in theory I could pass the CA, fail the repeat and thus fail the module?

    The letter they sent out..
are you supposed to bring that to the exams with you?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

You don't need any letters to sit exams. Just your student card.

The blue one? I think so. It says it's our exam permit so I'd say we do have to have it.

On another note, does anyone know if you can compensate in the repeats?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭xOxSinéadxOx

^ Yeah that's why I was wondering. seems weird though.
looked at it again and it says 'this permit must be produced each day in the examination hall'.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭Seren_

If it's an exam permit you'll need them in your exam with you. We used to have them a few years ago but they got rid of them for semester exams.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

But you don't actually need it. So if you do forget it don't miss an exam over it or something. It's not necessary to actually get into the exam hall. Student card is the most important thing!

Best of luck to anyone doing repeats!

Anyone have any idea if the Autumn results are posted out or if we get them online?
