In the now famous world cup qualifier at Lansdown Road against the netherlands.

    Shay Given should have

    a) Conceded a penalty
    b) Been sent off

for THAT tackle on Ruud Van Nistlerooy in 2001

Ah well, at least Germany got them back in 2010 .... 1970, 1990, 1996 and several other times too I'm sure.

    2001, oh wait........:)

Anyone remember Emmanuel Petit getting sent off for touching the ref on his chest, the most petty thing I've seen.

This was also the time Keane and his mob were chasing the ref around the pitch and didn't even get booked.

West Germany against Austria in 1982. The 1:0 helped both teams into the next round on the expense of poor Algeria. The ref (can't remember his name, I was just 12 that day) should have called the game off, a shamble that was

Has to be 1982 world Cup game between France and Kuwait. France score. Ref allows goal. Kuwait decide they wont play anymore until goal is disallowed. Ref stands firm. Emir comes on Pitch. Calls Kuwiat team off and then suddenly ref chnges his mind and disallows goal. Here is edited version.

    Some pretty obvious one's.

Maradonna's hand of God in 1986

the penalty decision that won West Germany the 1990 World Cup final....followed by 2 red cards to Argentinian players for protesting. A pure fix!

Oh and just about every referee who refereed a game where England got knocked out of any tournament. Not least the one who disallowed Lampard's goal against Germany one year ago!

Harold Schumacher tackle on Battison. To call it a tackle is even wide of the mark. On phone so no video.

Bit of a faulty memory there. Monzon was sent off 20 minutes before the penalty and Dezotti a few minutes after the penalty for a foul on Kohler.

For me, the worst decision has already been mentioned. Schumacher on Battiston in 1982.

Actually what about Ben Thatcher on Pedro Mendes and all he got was a yellow?

Another Graham Poll special here, he blows the final whistle before the balls crosses the line. He wasn't called Mr. Liverpool for nothing, you know.

Wouldn't even call it an error, it's pretty obvious he knew what he was doing.

ya could be right. It still was no pen though and it was still a set up.

1982 world cup semi final between west germany and france , the notorious german keeper schumacher attempts to decapitate the incoming french striker ( cant remember his name ) and despite the fact tha the french attacker is knocked unconscious and minus a few dentures , not only does the man with the whistle not give a penalty , he doesnt even book the german no 1

Was that a bad refereeing decision though?

When I watch that goal on TV (at normal speed) I still can't see the handball. I think it's very difficult to see.

Brazil v Sweden, 1978 World Cup

1-1 as the game went into injury time and Brazil had a corner. With 90.08 on the clock Brazil scored from the corner, but the ref, Clive Thomas, had blown for full time while the ball was in the air. Absolutely ridiculous refereeing.

I remember a one from a Dundalk game about 4 years ago. Can't remember who they were playing, but Dundalk were on the break, their winger cut inside and was about 2 or 3 meters inside the box when he squared the ball to the striker who slotted it. But just after the winger passed the ball he was taken out of it. The ref never gave advantage, and called the play back for a free kick outside the box for the foul on the winger!
If there's any Dundalk fans that know where the video is, post the link!

Yes, but it was on a bias note ;)

Should've been a red, Lampard's sending off in that game was terrible as well.

A whole host of them in the game known as the Clattenberg Derby. He hasn't refereed a game at Goodison since.

I'm not sure what was worse; the penalty claim the end for Everton, or Steven Gerrard being substituted for Lucas above all people. :pac:

1991FA Cup semi final between West Ham and Nottingham Forest. Keith Hackett sends off Tony Gale for a nothing challenge in the first half with the game at 0-0. Forest go on to win 4- 0 and Hackett never referees a match involving West Ham again.

Honourable mention goes to the prat of a ref who sent off Andy O'Brien against Israel in Lansdowne Road. My recollection of it was Andy went up to challenge the keeper in the air and a free was given against him. The keeper the gave him a belt in the head before collapsing in a heap holding his face. Even worse was the fact that the red card was upheld on appeal. The mind boggles.

yep a kid getting his PL debut was shocking

Lampard's goal is up there last summer. The one with Argentina scored an offside goal and the ref knew he made a mistake but couldn't do anything about it is pretty funny!

Dirk Kuyt in Boeing 747 mode not resulting in a red, Clattenberg changing his mind and sending Hibbert off after Gerrard has words with him, the two penalties that Everton should have had. Worse yet, I was there that day :(

Chelsea v Barca semi final, two or three years back.

2 or 3 of the 5 penalty claims in isolation would make ANY worst decision compilation - but the fact that 5 were turned down in the one match MUST amount to the most disgraceful refereeing performances ever seen. People will also point to the Barca sending off - but bear in mind the offending player (Abidal?) admitted contact subsequently.

Was coming into post the Chelsea v Barca match but every Chelsea fan has mentioned it already. :p

In fairness, even if I was not a Chelsea fan how some of the decisions werent given in that game we're beyond a joke.

The three that stick out in my mind are the ghost goal at old Trafford, the goal this season lampard scored at the bridge and not giving Nzonzi a red for grabbing Lucas I think by the face and throwing himto the ground.
