Ubuntu won't load for me at all now :/

    WHUT O_O

When people say linux they generally mean a particularly operating systems based on the linux kernel, never mind what that is, pretend it's magic.

Basically, there's lots of different types of linux, all of them based on the same backbone (The kernel). These different types of linux are called distributions, like ubuntu, mint, arch, fedora, knoppix, gentoo and so on...

The reason they're different is because people want different things from their OS, I think ubuntu is quite bloated, but it's a very user friendly version of linux?

As for the boxed comment, I have no idea what you mean...... They're not software that is sold because they're open source, which means anyone can view the code that they're written with, which is something you can't do software you buy.
