If you switch over to O2, they will send you one of their "Golden Sims" that gives you Free O2 Calls and Texts with no minimum top up. I don't know what the Terms and Conditions are, but apparently they are only giving out 500 of them.

Speaking of which, I just got mine today. Along with 12 lasers.

Anyway, if you have no credit, they'll give you a little spiel when you ring someone about how you have no credit, but you're allowed straight through to make your call immediately after it. So, free calls and texts to o2, and you never have to top up. Don't see how it's going to make much money, but hey, no complaints here.

Typically with o2 the pages for the terms and conditions are not accessible/broken much like the network!

I suppose they are hoping that you'll eventually Top Up to ring/text another Network, unless everyone you know is on O2 in which case is a win to O2 anyway.

Damn it, I just switched to o2 the other week!

    Voicemail - 10 cent a min
Minimum call charge of 9 cent per chargeable call. Doesnt apply to o2 calls ofcourse.

Data add on as normal, €9.99 for700mb.

If you switch away from the golden plan, you cant get back on it.

They say there's 367 left, but they're not sending me any text message.

I was actually planning on moving to o2 in the next few weeks, but this would save me the bother.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,188 ✭✭✭wil

I didnt get a text either, is there a problem?
Am trying to use a Tesco number and I see it defaults to Meteor on page 2, from the 089 number, could that be the problem, text is going to Meteor???
I have to change it to Tesco on the dropdown but that might be too late for the text so Im stuck
Is it a standard code or different for each mobile. Any helpful person pm me pls :

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Maybe its the networks blocking the texts in the hope that people don't switch. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭angelmum

i have to put 353 on the number instead of 087 etc my friend had to put +353 to get a text from o2 you could try which way would work for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 694 ✭✭✭kgiller

I signed up for this a few weeks ago. They dont send you a new sim card unless migrating from another network, its just a new price plan they put you on.

Works well for me because the main people i call and text are 02. Texts and calls to other networks are €0.10 per text/min which is cheaper than other plans too.

Didnt work for my girlfriend who texts her friends a lot on other networks - better to stick with the "experience more" plan.

Yeah, I did this and tried different browsers and everything. This morning there are 12 messages from O2. :D

Have signed up for this for me and a few friends, hopefully it all goes well. On a related note I don't suppose anyone knows of a dual sim card adapter that works with the san fransisco?Would really like to get one!

They are entitled to make a living too...
In fairness this is a GREAT deal for anyone with family or friends on O2. 10 cent a minute calls are really competitive with anything out there.Unlimited o2 calls, 100 mins of non o2 calls would be about 10 euros, 15 minutes of voicemail 1.50, only about 11.50 a month for some reasonable use. Cheap by any standards.

Got my text with promo code about 10 seconds after I filled in my number online.

Looks like a great deal,so long to Vodafone who were robbing me for years.

You would have to be coming from another network, their was 50 for excisting o2 customers but went straight away, where their was 1000 for porting in customers

There are still more than 200 left, so I guess it would be easiest to get one of the blue Tesco sim-only packs from your nearest store for €2.50 as quickly as possible, pop the card into an unlocked phone for a minute to be able to receive the sms and then port the number to O2 straight away. Downside is you can't keep your old number then, but at least you have the tariff. Porting the old number away and then back to O2 would certainly take to much time.

Hi kgiller do you still need to have a mininum amount of credit on account in order to avail of the FREE 02 calls / texts ?

what about a regular topup every few months to keep the sim active?

I went to three to get the 500mb for €5 and got 3 sims (why not, they're free :D) so now I've gone back to o2, I'm getting 2 of these and keeping one 3 sim. Very happy I left o2 for that one week in, well, since they were esat digifone :)

What's the catch though? There's always a catch!

I can't see the slightest downside to this, so I'm obviously missing something?!?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,356 ✭✭✭coldfire1x

Thanks OP. Had a spare Tesco sim :)

    135 left now.

The only part I'm a bit skeptical would be "The standard 02 Experience Plus fair use threshold and policy apply to free calls (5000) and texts (5000) on this price plan. The details are available on 02.ie"

Not entirely sure what that meant..

In other words, you're limited to 80 hours of free calls and 5000 texts a month. But you get them for free, anyway, so take what you're given.

Have a Nokia E63 locked to Vodafone PAYG, not spent the €127 over the last 6 months to get the unlock code. So if I order this in 4 days I will have an issue.

    Options to unlock/de-brand? Thanks!

Google how to unlock your phone.

    You could try this: http://gsmevolution.com/blog/free-nokia-unlock-code-generator-worldunlock-v44

I had googled and evidence suggested I needed an unlock code from Vodafone.

I tried the program you linked to, doesn't seem to work with Windows 7, tried XP compatability mode also. :(

Pay €10 in an unlock shop and they will remove the lock for you. They can also debrand it if you want, but its not necessary for it to work.

log into vodafone website, go look for "get network unlock code" on the first screen after you log in, enter password again if it ask and the rest i think you'll follow just fine..

no need for shop to unlock at all.. good luck

Edit: Once you've done that, they should send you a code by email or text (depending on the method chosen).. and it is no harm to read how to use the code.. look for "NAC instructions" on the side menu to see how to enter for specific phone..

You will notice he said he hasn't spent €127 in the past 6 months which is the criteria to get a code, this means he wont get the code from vodafone

Did this yesterday and it took about 2 hours for the text to come through - i resubmitted the number 3 or 4 times and then thought that it just wasn't working or I had banjaxed it for trying too many times. But it did arrive eventually!

eddiem74, did you actually try to process the code on the site even though you haven't spend 127 in the last 6 month?? Or you just gave up once you saw that??

The last time I did it, I don't think I met the criteria and still got the code..

Pavilions SC is probably the closest to you. Probably charge a little more than a tenner, but no more than €20. If you went into the city you would get it for €10.
