Does anybody else (who is in employment) ever get sick of hearing "ohhh, aren't you sooooo lucky to have a job"??

No matter what the job is, no matter how much you hate it, no matter how much you want to pack it in!!

But of course you cant pack it in because there is no other jobs and what kind of a fool leaves there job at the moment when they are so "lucky" to be there in the first place!!

Not every job is WORTH HAVING  scream!!!

I don't even get paid for my job, if I ever heard a superior say that to me, they wouldn't be long without having my notice in their hand.

I know that I am in a much better position, i.e. I have an income and can support myself...however if getting this income makes me dread getting up in the morning, then I question its worth. Sorry to sound like I am not fortunate, I am, for the income. Not to be in employment!

No job is worth damaging your health. If it's stressing you out then you should consider packing it in, if you can afford it that is.

Hate when people say you are lucky to have a job, what about all those people who are good at their jobs and get on great in work who are highly qualified in their role?

being "lucky" to have your job implies to me you somehow duped employer to hire you and then managed to con him into thinking you were good at it and so you haven't been let go yet or something.

You're lucky to have a job is usually preceded by "I need you to work til 8pm all this week for no extra pay and in fact, you are getting a paycut".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭Butterfly25

I agree!! I'm sick of hearing this!

Yea ok I suppose in the current climate we're lucky...but what if you're stuck in a job that you cant get out of!! I have sent out hundreds of CV's and I'm lucky to get an e-mail reply...most of them dont even bother replying. Its so disheartening.

I have my qualifications and worked really hard for my degree. Most of the people I went to college with have emigrated, I dont really want to do that...I'm a home bird. Now I'm stuck in a part time crappy job and i'm dying to get out of it!!! :(

To be honest, if my job was as a bag of tea I'd probably be pretty stressed out over it as well.

I know! I feel guilty when I walk past the dole queue on a Wednesday on my way to work! I feel like I shouldn't feel bad that I'm 'lucky' to have a job, especially in the current climate, but like. Stop with the emotional blackmail!!

It's horrible to be in a job you don't like but imo it's only worse when you have no job at all to get up for, while sending out tons of CVs and still getting no replies.

Its not some people are lucky to have jobs IMO its that a lot of decent hard working people are unlucky to be out of work through no fault of their own.

Today I went for a run, spent the morning out playing in the sun with my dog, went shopping and bought a lovely fresh salad for lunch and a new pair of shoes (paid for my government), had a snooze, and now I'm going to spent the evening relaxing with friends, watching films and maybe get a takeaway in my house whos rent is paid for by the government...
    Might do the same tomorrow...

    Frankly I think I'm luckier without a job :D

Employers really are trying to screw everyone over at the moment offering crap wages and even worse working conditions but "hey i'm lucky i have a job". Just could'nt bear the torcher of sitting at home it was soul destroying

I rather be on the dole than stuck in a job I hate. That said, I have no responsibilites to speak of but it's obviously different if you have a mortage to pay and kids to look after.

I was there with the whole crap job thing in the past, so I know how it feels to dread going into work.

I hate my job, i went to college but i'm stuck in a ****ty physically strenuous stressful and thankless job working for a couple of complete dip****s who don't know their arse from their elbow in terms of what we actually do and make life very difficult for their employees who are forced to pick up the slack for their ineptitude.
It pisses me off because i know i could do the their job better than them but there isn't a hope of that happening because they know they're out of their depth and they will never hire someone into a position where they know they will be shown for what they are.

The other thing that pisses me off is that if i were unemployed between the dole rent allowance and other benefits i wouldn't really be down a huge amount. Certainly not enough to justify the crap i put up with. I'm probably working for what equates to a couple Euro and hour.

All i'd have to do is find a couple tommers here and there or pick up a shift in a bar cash in hand and financially i'd be even.

I know people on the dole living better quality of life than me between getting plenty of sleep exercise daytrips because they have plenty of free time and enough money in their pocket.

To be honest, I think the whole thing is a farce.

"Luck" has little to do with it. Yes it's definitely an annoying phrase, but times are hard out there and we all have to do what we can. Shouting "lucky bastard!" at others isn't going to put food on my table. Everyone is entitled to their own method to get on with it, but they should focus their energy on their chosen method. I wish everyone was doing well, but I'm also not oblivious to the fact that I could spend my entire life watching others conquer their respective problems, while I remain stationary.

I have chosen to build a tech business right here in Ireland as opposed to going to Oz where I am confident I could get a job (from reports). I don't want to do that because...despite the usual complaints, I like it here, it's my home and I believe we can fix it!. There are some very clever/talented people in this country, I have seen them with my own two eyes & they're not leaving either. Some people think I'm absolutely mad to be doing this, and they're entitled to offer their opinion, because that's all they get to do. Then anytime I show signs of progress, I usually get the "lucky" spiel from those same people. They haven't a clue what I do day-to-day, yet consider themselves qualified to know it's not a good idea. Go figure

This is my chosen way out of harsh times, because it ticks more important boxes for me than other popular approaches. Is it hard?, yes!. Am I rich?, no!. Is my opinion of what it takes to do this different than when I was employed by someone else?, you better believe it is! ;). I massively underestimated so many things, but thankfully I've learned & will continue to learn from my mistakes. Could what I'm doing now improve my quality of life?, in may regards it already has, and in some others it definitely needs work. Even if I stopped doing this tomorrow, I don't think I'd ever look at the "climb" differently. It has made me realize what it takes to create a job, be it mine, or someone else's.

So anytime I hear anything like that I don't think "Yes I am lucky", I think "I'd hate to be stuck with that attitude/perspective", because it doesn't help anyone.

Approximately 85% of people in Ireland who want a job, have a job. Some have 2.

The unemployed are still the odd ones out, not the employed. Tough but true.

"Lucky to have a job" = Bollocks

get out of Ireland for a while - it will be good for you. It will still be here if you want to come back. International experience will enhance your cv also. employers are currently offering sh1tty roles and positions because they can get away with it...

Its good to hear that people are still trying to do something. I don't get this defeatist attitude of sitting on the dole and knowing you won't get a job, yet continuing to moan about it.

There are people sitting out there with degrees that are slowly depreciating in value because they arn't being used.

Entrepreneurship is the way forward for this country.
