Ok. Are you anyway familiar with Linux?

Basically, android is linux-based, just made to run on small screens/processors/resources.

Basically, Android is an Operating System. It is the base for all android ROMs. Google makes all the versions of Android which manufacturers then tweak it to work with their phones and software. (They all want to outdo each other with fancy widgets, launchers, etc.) Each phones comes with a ROM installed on it already (What you see when you turn on your phone is the ROM that the manufacturer/network made and put on it). Developers then decide that the manufacturer's one isn't the best (I'm looking at you Samsung) and that they reckon they could do a better job on it. So they make their own ROMs that are lighter, faster, more powerful, and less resource hungry than the manufacturers ones and release them online for people to put on their phones. These are Custom ROMs.

tl;dr version:

A ROM is everything you see when your turn your android phone on.

Yeah well you have a Desire S so you're screwed :pac:
You basically put a custom Recovery on your phone and from that you flash a ROM or whatever
Easier than using Windoze :pac:

I only use it as it supports my touchpad properly

haha, I know, I often use my iphone for internet, you get used to it eventually. It's very difficult to type though.
For the laptop, get a wooden splint. Check the battery on the bottom of your laptop. Theres a chance it's loose or maybe it got juiced, idk.
There are other ways to turn on a laptop other than the switch, they just require a screwdriver and a steady hand (unless you like the sizzle of electrons in your body, i don't know!).

Touch screens aren't as good in that way. A keypad is far more efficient, and you are less likely to hit wrong keys etc.
I can type quicker than I can talk! It just comes to you eventually.

Nah its charged, c the switch Is like a slider thing, and Its kind of loose so I think that's the problem lol
I just dont like using my phone for internet, I like being able to see the whole screen, and I keep hitting the wrong buttons lol

If it's a slider then you can turn it on manually shoving a safety pin down the gap and hitting the switch. Easier said than done, I know.
