Forgive if already asked but how far is start point in Kilkenny Rugby Club from Kilkenny City Centre and what time does 160km start at? I see registration stops at 8.45 so I presume shortly after that?

9am roll out. The rugby club is about 5km from the city centre. It's located about a five minute drive from junction 9 of the M9.

Registration for 160km, & 110km closes at 8:30am, & these groups will depart at 9am.

Those doing the 70km & 40km will be starting their cycle at 11am, & can register up until 10:45am.

See here http://www.marblecitycyclers.com/tour-de-kilkenny/ for all details.

The Rugby Club is on the Waterford Road, it is less than 2km from Kilkenny City (/town..... whatever) Centre (actually, let's say its 2km from 'An Lar' & be done with this town/city malarky ;)).

According to google maps it's 4km from High St. so I wasn't that far off. It might also be a four minute drive from the motorway.

Probably going to get down to this. Looks like a fairly flat run if you're to believe the gradient mapping on mapmyride.

Welllll, what I'm looking at is 1,300m ascent over 160km in comparison with the WW200's 2,600 !

What distance are you looking at for this? I'm assuming there would be some practice runs involved?

I would volunteer, but I won't able to take part in the event myself! However I can ask the others if they'd be up for it.

This is true. Won't make Woodstock Hill any less painful though. :D

I'm doing the 110k. Have to be home to show face at some stage or I won't be allowed out to do the Orwell thing on the 7th.

I've never done a sportive before and would like to come down and do the 110/160k course but a bit worried about doing it on my own - I appreciate that you'll generally find a group during the cycle, but how about afterwards? Is there some sort of social element or does everyone just go their separate ways? Just trying to get my head around the logistics of accommodation etc!

There'll be piles of people to chat to and you'll never be on your own for long on the cycle part. Food stop is a good opportunity to chinwag and everyone meets up again at the Rugby Club at the end where MCC lay on a huge spread of food.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people about Kilkenny the night before. A feed of pints is just the thing you need to set you up for a spin.

Are you male or female? (Serious question!)

What??? Not only are we letting you cycle on our roads, but you also expect us to speak to you????!!!

People generally hang around the rugby club bragging, complaining and eating for quite some time after they finish their cycle, most of these people will appear quite 'normal' and will be only too delighted to 'socialise' with fellow riders; later some of them will have to be forcibly removed from the building.

We kinda sorta intimate that we'll all end up in the West Left Bank (pub in 'An Lar'*) later in the evening. I for one intend to drink (altar wine, obv.) heavily after this is all over, venue immaterial.

Say 'Hi' when you come to register, I'll be the nun ;)

    Famous last words, I'm sure!

    @DirkVoodoo I'm (seriously) female

@Sr Assumpta Thanks for that - not sure I'll be up for the altar wine but each to their own! Will make sure to introduce myself to anyone I see sporting a habit :)

This is what I like about sportives. Guilt-free binge drinking.

That's very quick off the mark - normally it takes at least a couple of drinks! :p

Hoping to have time to do this event. Did it 2 years ago and it was an excellent sportive.

Is it a mass start at 9am? And is it neutralized behind a pace car for a period (which drives me nuts) or just plough on as you like?

Mass start at 9 last year. Don't remember a pace car.
    See you there.

    Mass start at 9am for the 160km and 110km, 11am for 70km and 40km.

At the start the group will be kept behind a "pace car" until the ring roads are negotiated - it wouldn't even be for 5km, perhaps only 2km.

After that, the cyclists set the pace :D

It's the same setup as the previous two years.

I demand that Sr. Assumpta stand out of the sunroof in the lead car in full nun's regalia and then drop the flag once the ring road has been negotiated.

    Make it a milk float.

Or she could Chase the peloton with branches and try to flog them
