My teacher says that 20th century social studies (or something along those lines), Famine and the Industrial Revolution is going to appear on the exam, but I'm not sure which question >o<

Social change will appear on question 6.

Industrial revolution and famine is the favourite to show up on Q5.

It's been a long time since industrial revolution and famine came up, longer than any other topic, which has typically meant that it should come up.

True as that might be, I wouldn't be banking on it.

Everyone is banking on it at this stage! It would be grand if it did come up, it's easy enough. But I'm preparing for the reformation more then I am the IR. I just have a strong feeling the Reformation will come up.

You can't really bank on the IR. If you look back through the years Exploration has come up within 2 years of itself. The same could happen here and we could be landed with the plantations.

No it hasn't. :p Maybe as a q5 one year and a 6A the next, but the question 5's follow a very predictable pattern. The Industrial Revolution is very likely to come up, that said I wouldn't be altogether surprised if the Reformation or Revolutionary Movements came up. The Reformation was one of my favourite parts of history back when we were learning stuff (I'm not even sure why, I don't exactly care much about religion) so I should probably be grand with that, Revolutionary Movements...well, I'd scrape something together. :p

Anyway, History has continuously been my best subject throughout these three years, so fingers crossed this exam goes well for me. :)

I hope 6A is something I know because I don't know Irish History or International Relations in the 20th Century.

    Yes it has. :)
I don't mean it came consecutively after itself. I meant that it came up one year, didn't the year after, but did the year after that.

    Good guess, I agree.
I would recommend doing all renaissance-era things, eg., reformation, counter reformation, voyages of exploration, and, of course, the ranaissance itself.
One of them is going to play a decent part in history.

By the way, on the short questions, it says you get marked for 10 questions... DO EVERY QUESTION in short answers. They only take about 10 seconds to write, and if you are going to do them all, there is a good 80 % chance you will get at least 10 fully correct.
Personally can't wait for this. I wonder will extra knowledge on stuff get you marks? I could just harp on about Cold War Planes for 2 pages.... no? Oh.

Another thing I may recommend is doing a bit of research on Stalin, what an amazing thing to read about, he pretty much brought the Apocalypse to most of the USSR states. TIMELINE is terrible for information on him, and this stuff is genuinely interesting. Give it a read for some extra Q5 D knowledge! (question D is always WW II figures...usually).

I love History, probably my best subject and the one I've put the least amount of work in to over the last 3 years. Even if we get a shockingly bad paper I'll still enjoy it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭FatRat

Slowshow: You are right actually BUT this did happen in 2006 and 2004 with the 1850's and rural Ireland. So, what I'm saying is don't rule plantations out completeley. Don't rule anything out apart from exploration.

I will enjoy it too Legion, as long as the 20th century politics in Ireland question suits me, as long as cold war in 6D comes up but most of all as long as we don't get ridiculous people in history options. I'd hate to have something like what came up 2006. A FOLLOWER of a revolutionary leader and a farm labourer in the ag. revolution. I'd never have managed that.

For exploration you only need know Columbus. You shouldn't do 20 short answers either, do 15 at most.

Also, you don't need to know WW2 this year for Q6, it came up last year. I think a people in history on a soldier could come up, such as in operation Barbarossa.

i know its a bit late now but for people in history questions is it ten facts as they are each worth two marks, making it 20? if someone could get back to me thanks:pac:

No it's 8 significant relevant statements worth 2 marks each and 4 overall marks that you need not worry about. A significant relevant statements should be at least 3-4 lines and have relevant facts (Sometimes 1 developed fact suffices, sometimes you will need 4 minor ones). Similarly for the essays worth 12 marks it's 5 significant relevant statements and 2 overall marks.

8 facts worth 2 each. The other 4 marks is an overall mark of how well the facts about the person are written.

I'm just wondering if writing down where the person was from and what year he was born is a fact

It's not that bad, they don't give a damn what you say about the follower, just write about the revolutionary leader from the follower's perspective, which can pretty much be your perspective. e.g. George Washington, you should just be an American living in New York or better yet, Boston, so you can throw in a bit about the Boston Tea Party easily as background info, and then just go on about George Washington - Continental Congresses (I can't remember which one he was made commander-in-chief in but yeah), then go on about the various battles (Oh, background info, wealthy farmer from Virginia) Battle of Brunker Hill, but was doing badly in the war up until they attacked the British at Trenton in New Jersey on Christmas Day...lost a battle in Philadelphia, trapped at Valley Forge for the winter where his soldiers were trained well with the help of Baron Freidrich von Stueben (though many died)...While this happened, the victory at Saratoga was the turning point of the war as it inspired the French to get involved. Washington had a final victory when he trapped General Cornwallis and his British soldiers at Yorktown, and Cornwallis surrendered - the war was won, and George Washington became President of the United States, over a democratic government. He retired in 1797, and died in 1799 in Virginia, I think. Finish with perspective of follower >I think he was a great man and inspired the people, he is the father of the American Nation.

I just wanted to see if I knew that tbh :L and I'm not backspacing now :P

As for the farm labourer - you just need to go on about different methods of farming, losing your right to grazing on the commons and new machinery have replaced your job, so you have to emigrate to the industrial towns and cities, which you aren't fond of as you've heard stories about pollution, harsh working conditions and widespread diseases.

    I love History. :D

    I hate History!

I'm not keeping it on but I want a B tomorrow. I got an A in the Pre, but I did way better back then.

If the paper doesn't suit me, I'll struggle. For the parts I don't know, I wouldn't be able to spoof like in other subjects. I either know a chapter here, or I don't.

Hope Ancient Ireland comes up in 6A! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭buyer95

yEra history wont be too bad. I have a genuine interest in it but ny lack of motivation to study is shocking. THat said, I listen in class because Im interested in it. Il just wing it like I did in the pres, came away with 84%(84.8%, but was marked down.... prob because the examiner had an inkling that I hadnt much study done and 84 would make me work hard for an a.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 sullymtb

If you look at the past years of 2009,2007,2005 in Q4 part (ii) A+B you'll see that A monk in christian Ireland and a Factory or mine worker has come up every 2nd year. I'm focusing on them and will fall back on something else if it dosen't come up

I may be dropping History next year, but that sure was a nice send off!

    Class paper!

More difficult than I thought, but grand.
    Left half an hour early.
    A I hope

Famine and industrial revolution did come up :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,724 ✭✭✭mixery

Ooops. While I was dreaming of an A my grade may be tampered. What I wanted to know I knew perfectly. Too bad very little of it came up.. I'm just happy I don't listen to your predictions..

Short questions suprised me, I got only 12 done, but I know they're right.

    Being realistic I think it'll be a low B.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭King John The Last

I thought that the short questions were unusually hard.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,850 ✭✭✭Indiego

    that paper was ok :L
I looooved Q1-5, the pictures were easy, the documents also, the short questions were fine, and the people in history suited me well, a bit disappointed a painter or rev. leader didn't come up, I know soooooo much about durer and Washington lol

    however, **** you Q 6! -__-
I knew I would have to do A and D, cos i know **** all about Irish history,
but I forgot about the celts whan I revised :0 like, completely :( so all my answers to A are completely improvised, and that timeline thing in D really threw me off....
    good bye A :L

Q4 part b was horrible and I wrote a load of gick for 5c but q6 was ok so I'm happy enough.

Never have to do history againnnnnnn

So happy. Everything came up that I wanted. Learned off everything except international relations but I read a summary of it before going. I did Martin Luther as essay and Queen Elizabeth and munster plantations. I did 18 of the short questions and defo got 16 right, picture sources and q.5 simple..q.6 was great too :) that and business are the best papers I did so far!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 447 ✭✭omg a kitty

    what was that????!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,724 ✭✭✭mixery

Besides, how much do you write for people in History? I dd a page on Luther and page on Columbus.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 636 ✭✭✭anirishlad

I winged it a bit on q6 c knew absolutely nothing detailed about what the governments actually did

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19 AllisonB

I did 2 pages on Luther and a page and a half on plantations..id say a page is grand for what? 20 marks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 963 ✭✭✭Conchir

Same, I did a page for both. I did Monk in a monastery and Ferdinand Magellan.

I think it went well overall, answered all the short questions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 fitzall

Fairly ok paper but there were some tricky bits. Ordering the events in Q6D was a bit of a surprise for me. Wasn't really sure and made an educated guess. Anyone know the correct order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Lucan Bohs

Did nearly 2 pages for monk and 1 and a half for Columbus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭rorrissey

OOoooh god. I screwed this one up anyway. :L

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,850 ✭✭✭Indiego

I did a page for each, but I have tiny writing (about 20 words per line) so id say I did about a page and a half :L
I did martin Luther and Christopher Columbus :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Desire.

Was grand after all. I was worried that I would get a C but I think I definitely got a B.

    Picture questions were hard. :o

Short questions too, struggled to answer ten. Did eleven in the end, some guesses. :o

People in History was grand. I did Martin Luther and Christopher Columbus. 37/40 I'd say. Nearly perfect but I said Columbus explored Guadeloupe or something because I've been watching them in the Gold Cup. :pac:

Question five was alright. I didn't know much about it and kind of guessed a lot but I thought I did well.

Question 6. Ancient Civilization FTW! Worried for awhile as I didn't know if I was getting Bronze Age and Celts mixed up. Thankfully, I didn't. Did Social Change then as well. It was grand.

Thank **** I wasn't relying on the International Relations question as I only know the Cuban Missile Crisis and it wasn't an option. Also, no short questions on that topic either?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 182 ✭✭spirit_77

Had a dream where i knew absolutely nothing the paper so i woke up and decided that i was going to drop to ordinary :p still thought ordinary was quite hard:o Least thats me finished with history

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,608 ✭✭✭cathalio11

GOT MY PREDICTIONS SPOT ON :D

Predicted one of the Ancient Civilisation IN Ireland or Monk would come up. The Monk did! :)

Predicted one of the Coal miner or the guy in a political struggle would come up, the political struggle guy did :D

Studied the famine by heart for Question 5 and my coal-miner knowledge took me through the account :)

Question 6, I studied changes in Transport, Leisure and Women by heart. All of them came up. Tough pick to leave on of them out :D

Did the Berlin Blockade too :)

I also predicted Civil War would come up but didn't get the time to try that out ;)

    Done with bragging now :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 447 ✭✭omg a kitty

The Picture and Document questions were nearly all from your knowledge from the course! they usually have 2 questions from the picture or document.
Q6 was hard for me cos I only studied Political Developments and International Relations(stupid I know but theyre the only ones I understand) and they were both ****e

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 69 ✭✭scipsss

pretty pised off as the only section i didnt study for q 6A ancient ireland, came up.. i just bul****ted but i was actually expecting to get an A but now im pretty sure its a B :/ what did everyone say for q5 c part 3 rougly ?
