Yeah just got your lovely message, haha you're easily upset.you called me out so let's chat.you seem very sensitive to any criticism of pbs-i wonder have you a hidden agenda?just for newcomers,i've had pbs since 2013 with amounts varying between 180k and lately (march 2019)66k#(more later)-i built a house in 2019-that left the 66k but mostly i've had between 130k-150k approx invested so i have some experience of pbs(winnings €1950-35 times)....now if i have been critical of pbs it's with the intention of a heads-up for future would-be investors. The current rate of interest for prizes is 0.35%(feb2021) and without the big prizes is actually a lot less-was previously much better obviously.someone asked recently about investing 2k and i told them the truth-1 win every 10years/another example 10k-once every two years, not great eh?now you could win big(or win nothing)but believe me you probably won't,all figures based on averages of course.so if someone is asking on here about investing their house deposit/kids inheritance/college fees/life savings whatever i'm gonna tell them the truth imo-that pbs are terrible at the moment(because of the new rate obviously) and maybe to steer clear....i think you were inferring that i was crying over my own return or lack of which does peeve me for a short time i'll admit-who would'nt be but i'm used to it at this stage....Now about yourself you started this thread in 2011 apparently, you then proceeded to post some of-if not the best figures on here pro-rata.58 wins in ten years-almost six times a year-every year-no flat spots on 25k???-over 3000 euros in winnings at over 12% over the ten years,,,can anybody on here match that??This is all from the person that started this forum now not some random lucky punter-you're kinda winning your own raffle(fr. Ted anyone?)-Does nobody find that very strange???,eg 100k holder would have to win 232 times(almost fortnightly)to keep pace with you/200k holder-464 times in the ten years(almost weekly)to keep up.i see one poster here has 60k since 2019 and won nothing and your 25k has won eleven times since 2019! You are indeed very 'lucky'.This is all from the individual who set the whole thread up now don't forget!! Are you trying to influence people or what because frankly and i've said it before(and i'm not the only one) your consistent winning figures-without any flat spots or dry spells(nothing this year but that's in line with the average on 25k 1.3 wins approx a year) are extremely dubious imo.also you've never touched the cash-added to or cashed out-who does that?.i'd say a good few people over the years would have bought on the strength of your figures(i know i did)....Now you called me out and tried to dictate to me!.well NO i won't be cashing out!(i've actually bought more recently, sorry! I'm up to 170k now,a complete contradiction i know-i don't expect to win much but the devil you know and all that-unless i got your 'luck' maybe),NO i don't need your advice and NO you won't bully me off this site maybe you can get me banned?(do you know putin at all?)keep winning your own raffle!-I won't be bullied!. Ps i await the serious reprimand/backlash from your sidekick/s and loyal supporters, hope your 'luck' continues and please spare me the sour grapes/begrudgery line.

    In summary: ffs 😂

I'll put that rant down to being locked up with COVID-19 :-) Does not excuse the lack of formatting though.

There's waaaay too much nonsense and paranoia in your essay to comment on, but some points will hopefully embarrass you enough if you actually thought about what you wrote.

"influence people to buy PBs" - err, why? If the State Savings had a "refer a friend" scheme, I would say you were onto something there. However according to some posts, the company is receiving hundreds of millions of euro every week - why on Earth would they need to 'influence' any more people? And is a 10 year old single thread on a message board the best way to do it? And if you actually bothered to read back to the start of the thread from 10 years ago, you will see I said I was only holding onto them until savings rates improve - that certainly blows a hole in your "hidden agenda" theory 😁

"NO you won't bully me off this site maybe you can get me banned?", " you could win big(or win nothing)", "if i have been critical of pbs it's with the intention of a heads-up for future would-be investors.", etc. etc. - omg, get off your high horse! You have made numerous similar posts on this thread none of which I replied to nor reported to Mods, because that's fair comment. I'm just tired of you posting the same "PBs are crap, don't bother" replies every single time. It made me wonder why you bother to hold any? We all know PB's odds - some excellent posts from Agent Smyth, DXhound and others if you bothered reading them. If a new poster asks about PBs, the proper approach is to point them to those posts and let them make their own decision, not post the same thing over and over. That borders on trolling which IS a legitimate reason to be banned.

"you're kinda winning your own raffle" - yes you got me, €0 this year and a few €50s over the past 10 years😅 I wouldn't want to have won the €1m or anything. You need to look up the law of averages or something.

"hope your 'luck' continues" - me too! But with 0 wins this year, doesn't look like it, thanks for the positive vibes though.

"i've actually bought more recently, sorry! I'm up to 170k now,a complete contradiction i know" - great!! That's my Christmas bonus from the PB Company sorted!

"i await the serious reprimand/backlash from your sidekick/s and loyal supporters" - Sidekicks!? You're making me feel like Batman here, not that I'm complaining 😂 But I sincerely hope everyone has something better to do then comment on all this crap 🤣

Hope you got all that out of your system anyway. It's Friday after all, so peace, love, etc.

Remember next month is the €250,000 draw! Till our big win next month, stay safe all :)

Just bought 25k last month and got my first €50 win last week!! Reading recent posts above with people having a lot more held in prize bonds and going many months with wins, it seems I got lucky with a win so quickly.

I'm not sure if I'll hold them longterm in PBs but I guess I've already earned more than what I'd get in the bank for it for a year!

I just found this thread. Thinking of buying some bonds, 2000 euro worth maybe. I have 2 bonds, one since 1974🙄 and the other since about 1990 but never won a cent on either.

Good to see some people here getting an odd win but some of you have serious money invested in them so I guess your odds are pretty good.

I have yet to hear of anyone winning big money.

I'd be curious to know if anyone here has the full €250k in PBs and what return you've seen?

We're going to have a lump sum to put somewhere shortly (sold our house, going into the rental market in the medium term) and considering prize bonds. We will need access to the money at some stage for the next house purchase so the quick withdrawal option (after the initial 90 days) would suit us.

Any input or are there better options for a sum this size?

  • Registered Users Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Agent Smyth

I think back in Feb of this year I predicted that €250K should give about 13 wins per year

    My €250K from 28/08/20 to 23/08/21 produced 13 wins

    12 x €50 and 1 x €1000

    I also have a smaller batch €62.5K

This I reckoned would return about 3 or 4 wins per year

    6 X €50

    So on €312.5K I made €1900, happy days 😀

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,201 ✭✭✭ongarboy

OK but in real terms with annual inflation running at 2%, the spending power you've lost for that 312k sum is over €6000 in the last 12 month alone with similar inflation forecast annually for the next few years. I really think you shouldn't have such a large amount of money invested in something that delivers such minuscule chance returns to the point the real value is shrinking annually.

Its obviously your choice of course. I even have 25k in PBs myself which sounds contradictory but that's just to diversify so I don't have all my eggs in one basket.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭massdebater

Nice! That's the highest win I've seen here, $1k must have been great!

That's a good advertisement for anyone new looking to buy PBs - 0.6% return for the year with more than half from a big win. Either way, less than inflation so your money is slowly eroding over time. Short term it's not a big deal. But longer term they're a bad idea I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,585 ✭✭✭billyhead

The thing about Prize Bonds or any State Savings product is that it's no risk and State Guaranteed so ratherh than spend the money on shite you don't need and if your not a risk taker Prize Bonds or Saving Certs/ bonds or the National Solidarity Bond are the ideal savings product in the long term.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,614 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

The poor Prize Bond holders get attacked regularly for being foolish with their money. Other groups never get attacked. The ones who have €100 billion in the banks earning very small interest. The same with the €16 billion in Credit Unions, who won't even say until the end of the year if they are going to pay any interest. The €4 billion in the An Post Savings Bank which is paying 0.05% and that is then subject to DIRT. And the billions which are abandoned in dormant accounts.

The Prize Bond people have a bit over €4 billion, a mere drop in the ocean. Leave them alone to enjoy their bit of excitement with the weekly draws.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,994 ✭✭✭Taylor365

Yes, and mister Smyth might also have half a million in his doge coin crypto bet.

I'm sure he's not in PBs to get the lucrative return.

  • Registered Users Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Agent Smyth

If you go back in this thread you'll notice that I've always said that Prize bonds for me is a place where I hold the cash element of my portfolio

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,817 ✭✭✭Darc19

    100% agree

€50,000 in a bank deposit account and lets say a 30 day notice. Gross interest for 12 months = €15, less DIRT tax of €5.

Net Interest €10. - If you simply want an instant access deposit account, the best interest is €3.35 for the 12 months. (most banks are zero)

So €50,000 worth of entries into 12 months of prize bonds costs the same as 5 lines of lotto for one draw. Or if comparing instant access, the cost is a cup of coffee

After many years with price bonds, I got my first price a week or two ago. €50. That's about a 0.1% return. Tax free though 😂

I think I'll take it out and buy a Rolex sports watch. They make more like 10% per year. Also tax free.
