Trying to loose the belly.

    Hello,

    I'm a 23 year old male, weigh 12.5 stone (80kgs) and am 5'11.
I've been trying to loose my belly for few weeks now and strangely I just cant seem to shift it.
    I run 2 miles 5 times a week.
I go to the gym 2/3 times a week on top of that too to do weights as I play rugby but still cant get rid of flab in my stomach.
    I do between 50 - 70 sit-ups every day too.
Now I have to admit I also have faults in my diet. I am prone to eating a good few biscuits with my tea and do enjoy a tayto sandwich (once a week though).
I don't eat alot of rubbish but do enjoy ice cream and dairy products like milk. But despite my running etc I still can't shift the belly.
Can anyone help me? I've considered using fat burning tablets too can anyone say if they are good or bad.

My usual diet would be -
    Morning.
    Cup of tea/coffee
2 slices of white bread toasted with butter or 1 bowl of cereal

    Dinner.
Usually something like bacon and cabbage, a pizza or that chicken in a bag with rice. My mother usually varies the dinners

    Tea.
Usually a cup of tea and 11/12 biscuits.

Also I do drink odd fizzy drink and as I said the odd ice cream. It is rare that I drink alcohol and occasionally eat a bit of chocolate.
I also take berocca each morning and when I do the gym I take an IsoEnergy drink for energy.

    Can anyone help advise me?

Christ almighty you're eating a packet of biscuits a day!!!

OP, you have a belly because of that sample diet you posted up. It's an absolutely muck diet. Sorry for telling you bluntly, but I hope you appreciate the fact that I'm telling you like it is. You will NEVER lose your belly if you continue to eat like that.

Have you read the stickies here and in the main Fitness forum? You should. They'll tell you everything you need to learn, not just know.

You're eating very poor quality "food" (if you can call biscuits "food") and way too much carbs for your activity level. You're getting hardly any fat in your diet, and very little protein.

The fact that your mum is doing your dinner, I bet she, like all other irish mums, gives you huge portions(just in case you go hungry:rolleyes:).

I found portion size and snacking were my biggest demons!

Ease up on the fizzy drinks, biscuits, ice cream and chocolate.

Man, I still cant decide weather or not you're takin the piss here. That diet is shocking! and even IF fat burn pills work (they dont by the way)they would never help with a diet like that. How much do you drink when you do? This cant be left out when considering why you cant loose the belly.

From what ive seen you eat way too many refined carbs, white bread, pizza, and the biscuits! Sweet lord. Your biscuit attack alone would net you over 1000 calories. put on top of that the ice cream and fizzy drinks and youve already had most of your daily calorie intake before you even have breakfast lunch or dinner! If you cant make head nor tail of the stickies, most personal trainers offer a weightloss and nutritional program so could be worth your while getting in touch with one of those.

Hey, I'd also recommend that you take complete control over your meals. I was in a similar situation when I lived with my parents, my mother is such a feeder! It's all love but it's not helpful. Giving someone else control over what's on your plate makes it easier to absolve yourself of responsibility for it. Offer to take over cooking a few evenings a week, and look up some of the healthy recipes in this forum. I'd also take out a weighing scales and just look into weighing how much you eat of something (e.g. breakfast cereal) and compare that to how much a portion weighs. It's easy to overeat on carbs.

I know I didn't successfully lose weight until I moved out and there weren't biscuits and crisps and crap food in my house. Hope this all helps. I know some of the advice on here might sound like people just giving out to you, but try to take the positive from it. :)
