Yes these are now reduced to 35 euro. They were previously 65euro.
    Super value.
    Transfer rate max 5Gbit/sec.
They've brought out a 640gb version too and its now priced at 65.

do you need a usb3 port to use this?

No you don't. It'll still work fine with USB port 2.0, just not as quick at transfering a file but still speedy enough IMO.

That looks like a big drive???
If it's 3.5" it will need a power supply as well.

The 2.5" are much more portable

Unfortunately, that one is a 3.5" one that needs an external power supply.

Aldi's is 2.5" and runs off USB alone.

    edit...as TriStar6 mentions above

And it's not USB 3.0, just 2.0, which would be a fairly big selling point

USB 3 won't make that much difference with a 2.5" drive like this. Twice as fast throughput but for random access they are about the same. Good info about that here:

Very True. the one in aldi will complement the saorview box nicely although i think someone said that the FAT32 system doesnt perform well on larger capacity??

Yep, this is ideal for anyone looking for a media drive. Mine works with my MVision box and also the wii.

Fat32 can't handle individual filesizes above 4Gb so that may be what they mean.

Ah now don't call yourself a prick, I was tempted to get a third to make a zfs usb pool rather that a usb raid.

Was 3 left after I got one in Aldi Listowel.

Had a bit of a wig-out when I saw the connection to the harddrive, but any regular printer usb cable fits it. Thought it was proprietary when I saw it first.
