... you said that it will kill Call of Duty, that is the point you were making. Please explain how?

Nah. Not mental about stats, will check the odd time but thats it. About IW.... i dont care if the taliban or crystal swing made a good game... a good game is a good game at the end of the day.

@shammy, ah put the handbag away man. Dont know why your so upset by me i didnt direct a thing you u. Take a chill out and try to remember the motto "attack the post not the poster" :)

On the factual side, well today was the media reveal of the service which went over the majoirty of what the service will entail (in terms of an overview).... that is what my judgement is based on. They may have a handfull of details yet to show of which price will be the largest one but today was to build expectation and set what people can expect from the service, with that in mind not a single aspect of elite is enticing to me and will not be of any intrest imo. Filter opponents lists, tutorials, activision tournaments and stats on what i didn in game are hardly worthy of a subscription of ANY amount. None of this is tangable in game content and will add nothing to the excitment of the game.....unless one deems reading stats, filtering groups and watching tutorials exciting / worth 5 - 8 usd a month?

Your forgetting that map packs are also included... which are released every 3 months or so... at what ? 15-20 USD ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,009 ✭✭✭Shammy

On the xbox we already pay a sub for online gameplay so i guess we feel a little cheated that this is being brought out even though its up to the individual to buy or not. I dont know the full details on the package or on how many map packs there will be,but considering this is reland no doubt we will be paying over the odds.
Problem is if this takes off how quickly will other companies follow suit.

15eur so if we assume elite will be the mid range estimate of 7eur per month (as hinted by activision reps) thats 84eur per year.... with the offset of say the average x2 map packs @ 30 total that means the estimated net mid range cost of Elite is 54eur a year? .... for stats, filtered play lists , activision tournaments and tutorials? LOL, thanks but no thank Activision. Thats like paying the price of a game and getting excel.

But I wasnt attacking any post or any poster who posted said fictional post so I have no idea how that can be construe as an attack? Can you point out the poster or post I attacked?

Where as your remarks were made in direct reply to one of mine hence the "handbag" mine were not replies to anyone here.

If anything I was attacking a particular sub class of player .... not a post or even a poster. Seeing as that is the case .... welcome to the Internet! A gathering of people and opinions on everything , that (bombastic voice)-warning- may differ from your own! lol, this is however not an attack on you or anyone else in particular simply because someone views an act or activity in a less favorable light than you would and as a result does NOT warrant a personal attack upon someone who has a differing opinion of said act or activity.

or in laymans terms.... if you went around personally attacking anyone who had a bad opinion of for example scumbags, whether it be right or wrong it is their opinion and people are entitled to that, it doesnt give you the right to attack someone for stating their opinion on something or a class of person / particular activity.

It could be the next trend for premium content (like what DLC has become).

Whilst not directly attacking a poster you are indirectly attacking posters that will buy the elite.
We can argue about this all night or we can move on.......

And they will play it, the same as if it happened last year, or the year before. I am unsure how it is related.

I really couldnt give two s}{!ts what you spend your money on , or whether you get the elite or not so why should you belittle the people that do ?
The whole elite package hasnt been fully disclosed as of yet so i'm wondering do you really have a clue on what your talking about ?

If you consider my above quote an attack then your sensitivity levels must really be high. They were questions , but if it offended you then by all means use the report button .

No price list or list of features has been published so your just going off hearsay and like i said before, i'll wait until we see everything and what beta testers think of it before I judge the service. They have said that anyone who plans on buying ALL of the map packs would be crazy not to buy elite... too me that sounds like your 7euro per month is a bit off.. unless they're going to release more than 2 map packs or bump the price of those quite a bit.

Either way.... they aren't forcing anyone to buy it, and as you said there won't be any gameplay implications.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,846 ✭✭✭Jet Black

As it stands I would not buy it. None of the features seem worth it. Dedicated servers or public beta would have me interested.
Apart from that extra stats, new search feature and tournements don't interest me. The map packs I can usally get for free anyway.

Well lets see...what way will I be thinking in November....

    Tonight will I:

A: Play a few hours of Modern Warfare 3
B: Upload Videos of gameplay and go on Facebook and talk about it

    Ridiculous nonsense for teenagers.

Whats wrong with that? That's what I, and nearly everyone on here, does

Not me but if you want to watch me go 2-17 in a TDM I'll happily look into it :)

Think I'd consider the Elite thing if it gives the map packs, which I'd be buying anyway.

Huh???? The reveal event yesterday was set up and run by activision themselves? They noted that the service has no set monthly cost as of yet but that it will cost under the average monthly costy of other subscription based console services such as Netflix. We know the average cost is between 6 - 8eur per month for these types of services so that would place the average cost of elite @ 7eur per month.

Its an eductaed guess based on what the company has said... hardly hear say.

AND like I said, thats 54 eur per year for the service including offset of map packs, even this estimate is bing kind... its the AVERAGE price and we all know how activision like charging on the high side, it also assumes that you would buy both map packs which not everyone will.

And if you watched the reveal and followed the developers comments on it(Twitter/Forums) you'd know that its still in alpha and more features will be added. The reveal yesterday seemed to be focused on black ops and what it'll do for that... MW3 will no doubt have more features that are built into the game since its still in the studio unlike black ops which has been out for 6 months already and wouldn't have had the time to intergate as much of elite into the actual game.

Again on the price, i really don't care at this stage what your guesstimate is... if I think its worth it when MW3 comes along i'll probably get it.. if not... i wont.... simples ?

Why would you base the cost on something so unlike the service? Would you not base it on the Bungie Pro price which is?

No doubt minor features will be added both at release and there after but the core of the service was the reveal.

Now THIS IS hear say. They made no refrence to mw3 vs black ops integration on the service or any technical issues they would have with black ops vs mw3 integration holding any possible features up.

Conclusions based on information given by the company = educated guess.

We'd be far better estimating it on the cost of 4 dlc map packs which is 4800 points on xbox or over or around €40 for the course of the year. On to this figure we could add in 5/10/15/? depending on frequency on content. So I'd estimate a figure of €40-60 which when coupled with an xbox live subscription is essentially doubling the cost. Ps3 users might not have the same reluctance to splash out as xbox users, but it's still an outlay for a single game.

In addition to the normal dlc map packs hopefully there will be some great exclusive content either in the form of additional map(s) or something like special ops maps. I would hope that it's not something simple like a gun/character model/avatar accessory. Depending on that what this content is the key selling point. I know I made the point in the past of what speed/distance a player travelled as an important stat for future games but it's insignicant when considering buying any additional content. You're not playing sim city/total war/civilisation so any stats are going to be largely irrelevant.

I would have no interest in what the plethora of stats say; I can learn a lot more from playing with or against better players or from watching a youtube tactical breakdown or just from having years of experience in similar games. If they offered a greater facility to record games like an upgraded theatre mode, I still wouldn't consider it a selling point as buying a hd-pvr/aftereffects/etc. would offer better longevity and value for money which wouldn't be tied to a single game on a single console.

It comes down to how competitive the pricing is versus the price of the map packs over the course of the year and how good is that all important exclusive content quality whether this will be a success or not.
