In the age of celebrity reality cooking gardening on ice in the jungle all our future wars will be decided by the public by voting in what platoons and regiments they'd like to keep in the war.

Cowell will make more money and 1 soldier will be left at the end with an entertainment contract hosting late night gambling shows on ITV.

    Shannon airport.
In an all out war it'd get nuked for sure, just to deny it to whatever enemy.
Your right about it as a possible target but with a nuke, I'd not be too sure.
Given Shannon Airports actual size, a simple MOAB bomb would probably do the job.
They prob (and hopefully) save the nukes for elsewhere.

    I do!

I'm still waiting for "Rocky 15" comes out.
I especially want to see the bit where he drags himself out of his wheelchair and into the ring, to hit his opponent with his urine bag! :D

I don't want some ruddy nuke spoiling my chances of seeing that film classic! :D

Russia and China against the Mish mash that is NATO. What would happen?.

The fact that all these countries are well stocked with nuclear armaments mean that such a war is highly unlikely. Mutually assured destruction has been preventing the outbreak of WW3 for a good few decades now

He might decide to base it in a post Apocalyptic Era, do it as tie in with Aliens and Preditor, fought amoungt the rubble of Maddison Square Gardens.

    :D

Rocky will probably win on account of his having four fists and powers of telepathy after getting a direct hit from a depleted uranium shell.

Well all it would do is even the odds. After all, he's probably gonna be fighting Goro by Rocky 15 :D

We'd finally pay the price for being ridiculously cheap on Defence and always parking ourselves firmly on the fence by claiming to be "neutral".

They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots.

    Winner.

I'd be more pessimistic. There'd be plenty of nukes to go around. Expect ground bursts on Dublin airport, Shannon, Cork, Knock etc to utterly destroy the runways to deny them to anybody. The resulting fallout would banjax the country. Irish government bonds would be radioactive as well as at rubble level.

I doubt it. See there are plenty of 360 machines, dozers, and tarmac operations around. Even a large bomb causing significant damage to the runway would only deny use of the airport for a time. Rebuilding a runway in a glow in the dark environment presents a whole different and less easily overcome set of circumstances. And as one poster already said, there are no shortage of nukes.

Was the 1990/91 Gulf war (often erroneously called the "first" gulf war) not World War 3 given that the allied side consisted of 30+ Countries ?

this would make the ongoing Afghanistan war World war 4

Re: Nuking airports in neutral(ish) countries would there be much point given that aircraft carriers and long straight stretches of motorway would still be available to the few military aircraft which had survived the nuking of airfields in NATO countries ?
Even a large bomb causing significant damage to the runway would only deny use of the airport for a time.
Once the initial salvo had hit surely the reconstruction of airports would be pretty low down the priority list ?

A world war must constitute a war of global settings, i.e on different continents. If by your definition, Kosovo in 1999, was a world war too.

Ireland would never be "non-cooperative". The nation was not neutral during our recent history. It'll always pick a side in my view.

They maybe no shortage of nukes but only one country has ever used them in any way shape or form and since then every country is scared pissless to use them. I doubt there ever will be a major worldwide nuclear holocaust, yes the will be incidents but the real war to come is our battle against the insects bears of Ursa Major. ive seen it in my dreams it occurs in the year 2525. Twenty 5 Twenty 5!

The overwhelming bulk of the fighting in WW1 was in Europe was it not ?

Yes, it was called a World War primary because of the amount of different nationalities dragged into it I think.

No, it wouldn't. It'd be our greatest downfall.

We've picked sides for quite some time now... We just haven't had the bottle to come out and actually say it.

Shannon was never a nuclear target during the Cold War. Bantry Bay was the only nuclear target in Ireland.
