Just so you guys know he is a Prosthodontist - the web explains it as this below.

    Question: What is a Prosthodontist?

Answer: A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who is skilled in the replacement of missing teeth and the restoration of natural teeth. A prosthodontist has graduated from dental school and usually will have three or more years of continuing education after that.

This type of dental specialist is trained to deal with complicated and simple restorations of the whole mouth as well as treating facial deformities. Common procedures treated by a prosthodontist may include dentures, partial dentures, fixed bridges, crowns, implants, veneers and more.

Could you please please PM me the details of your dentist also?
My teeth are in a bad way, so much so it makes me cry! All my own fault....I had a bad experience as a kid & have been too scared to go to the Dentist over the years! Now they are in a bad way & its going to cost loads to get them fixed :( Still very frightened about going to see a dentist at all though!

    Hi there,

I sent that PM on to you.

It's best to talk to a dental professional about that as I couldn't say how long.
It can depend on how well you look after them, the type of crown, what teeth are being crowned (there's more force from chewing on back teeth so a stronger material would be used I think porcelain fused to metal) or something else, mine will be porcelain crowns, they recommended I get this type as it is my 6 front teeth, can't get away with hiding those front bad boys!

Now if some dental peeps read this they might give you a better answer, I know there would be an expected or hoped for length of time that dental professionals have for crowns but unfortunately I am no dentist so prob better I leave that answer to them.

So just to update I have had the temp crowns in for a few weeks now, it's an all in one piece that looks like 6 front teeth, people practically nose to nose with me have not noticed and the temp is so settled in I don't even notice it now. I don't bite into things as I just don't want to do it with the temps in, although I was told I can but I would just prefer not too until the real ones are in.

The first few days my gums were red and it had not settled so when I looked up close at it in the mirror it didn't look as natural as it does now, but unless you actually opened up your mouth like you see horses do and pointed it out to someone they wouldn't have noticed ( yes I was opening up my mouth like a horse when they make those funny sounds and show all their teeth examining my temp crowns in the mirror!)

So I am back in on Thursday for an in office whitening (1hour) I have been doing night-time whitening wearing trays in my upper and lower teeth which will be two weeks of that on Thursday, if your thinking that wearing the trays (picture a very thin plastic gum shield made in the exact shape of my teeth from a mould they took) is annoying - it's not you can close your mouth (and talk in your sleep like I do) no problem.

So I actually have all in one 6crown temp and lower and upper teeth trays in at night and go to sleep no problem and this is from a person who used to have to hold the suction myself at dental appointments because having things touching off my tongue or left unaided in mouth made me panic, yay me! I still get this feeling of triumph now after even a routine dental check-up as I remember my first time at the dentist since a bad experience as a kid, she had to stop and couldn't do the filling as my whole body was shaking so much, I'm such a pro now ha!

So as I said no pain associated with the crowns so far, but I don't think I should comment about weather or not I got pain with the whitening as peoples teeth have different sensitivity levels when it comes to that and I think it is better to get a bundle of reviews from various people/on-line ect and speak to the dental team about that, also I didn't set out to tell you guys about whitening but it is part of my treatment plan now, this is the first time I have ever tried whitening so I have nothing to compare it against.
But I will let you know if they are whiter after this week, again all peoples teeth are not the same so get various reviews before you choose a product as just because one persons go really white with one product might not mean the same for you.

    Hello swanangel,

Looking forward to your review. Can you send me a pm with the name also?

Price aside, why did you choose this dentist? Did you look at many beforehand and how was your overall experience?

i got an elbow a few months back playing football and it chipped one of my front teeth and i have been putting off going to the dentist out of worry yet ill hop into a sparring match in my gym.

It got to the stage where i considered going to new york as they use the gas and I would need other work done.

    Hi AstonMartin,

That sounds sore, a friend of mine lost some teeth that way during a match.
What are you looking at getting a filling or crown on it?

I wouldn't call him a cheap dentist just in case you think that (Prosthodontist actually) I think people think I found some miracle dental practice that offers great work at pound shop prices!

I had some consultations with dentists before some in NI and Dublin etc, then I found out the difference between a dentist and a prosthodontist only when I went to meet my prosthodontist, also was advised to stay away from people advertising themselves as 'cosmetic dentists' as there is no such thing or people advertising davinci this and that it's just a name put on something to suck you in thinking you're getting better.

All in all I liked the prosthodontist and dental nurse and got a loan for just the amount needed he(prosthodontist) was very down to earth and straightforward and my dental nurse was just so lovely and kind so I was made to feel at ease, I'm glad I didn't go with a regular dentist (no offence dentist's) and the practice in NI that I was thinking of as I feel my guy had better experience and expertise.

Oh and by the way this clinic has sedation available, I don't know if I can say the price so I will PM you they offered it to me for my crown prep as I was a nervous but didn't get it in the end and it would have been a waste of money as it wasn't painful.

Plenty of places do sedation now you wouldn't have to leave Ireland for it.

(PM's on way to others above)

So I'm finished yay!! Well with crowns anyway let's not talk about the wisdom's as I'm currently feeling sick and not seeping over the prospect of that!

I actually don't really have much to tell as the last appointment was very simple, was booked in for an hour and half didn't take that long I think.

Sat down, had my temps taken off all easy and pain free, did the old rinse out stuff.
Got numbed up, then the perm crowns were 'tried in' for me to see they are only held in with water and something else (not sure how that works) so I wasn't dancing around the place as you have to be carful, went out to reception to show my Dad and see what he thought, I think he was jealous actually he would love some.

It's kinda hard to judge them and tell if you like them because I had had the temps in and gotten so used to how they looked and the shape of my mouth and smile with them that the real perm crowns looked a bit weird to me at first but you have to make sure you like them as once they are in they can't come out and you sign a contract to say you like them.

So everything seemed fine, they cleaned my real teeth in preparation for putting the perm crowns on, they was probably a lot more preparation but that's all I really took from it, I couldn't tell you the actual moment they were putting each of them in, then all of a sudden they were checking my bite and then I sat up.

I just couldn't believe they were finished, it was all very easy and then I just had these nice teeth in my mouth I didn't feel like I could leave I thought it couldn't be over, I'm not allowed to leave here with nice teeth I thought I would always be walking around with bad teeth, also thought I would cry but nope just pure disbelief that I finally got them!

So they told me I might hear a clicking sound and feel the teeth might be moving slightly, it's just a settle in kind of thing, I had both, not much clicking but still feeling like they are shifting the odd time, no pain at all eating and drinking fine.
I was afraid of them the first few days practically petting them with my toothbrush rather then cleaning them but I am brushing, flossing etc as normal now. All feels normal!

All good really, what else can I say?!!!

PM's sent, sorry I was out of action there for a few days resting after wisdom teeth removal (in the same clinic), but that's another post. (All good but).

Had a check up, all good no probs only took a few mins.
I forgot to comment how the teeth can be made to look so exactly like your others, I don't mean like just the shape and colour but actually if you look really closely the 'pattern' that all my teeth have the little details that make them look so real and not like Jordan tic tac teeth in your mouth, it's mad how they do it.
They don't make the real ones there only the temps, my perm crowns took four weeks are were made in the UK.

Not due back now for another three months for a cleaning, happy days.

    Thanks

    Hi Swanangel,
I need about six crowns on the front teeth also.

Just haven't had the balls to go get them done yet.!

I would greatly apreciate if you could PM me the details of the Clinic you went to - thanks

    Declan

  • Registered Users Posts: 104 ✭✭swanangel

Ah you don't need balls Declan, I don't have any!;)

The first appointment to 'prep' your teeth is the longest, then they just get shorter and shorter, not painful the closest I ever got to saying any of it was sore was just some sore gums during one appointment nothing to worry about at all.
A lot of work for the dental people, not a lot for us!

    Will PM you guys now.

    Hi Swanangel
It is one of the most expensive ones I have come across. I have found other ones in dublin for 2/3 of the cost, northern ireland for about 1/2 and Budapest (with after care in Dublin/Cork also for about 1/3 of that cost (for zirconium crowns).
I wouldn't like to see the clinics you thought were expensive!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 104 ✭✭swanangel

    Hi jkilleen,

I never said he was cheap!:)
