Great scope but if you are intending on using it for stalking there is much better options out there in my opinion ;)

I have 8-32X56 nxs on my 223. Great scope, no doubt about it. Precise adjustments, good magnification, good glass. Haven't said that, I think it all depends what you gonna use it for. For long range targets, bunnies magpies and stuff it's probably unbeatable, but if you going to use the rifle for deer stalking I personally would recommend smaller magnification, hunting turrets, either Shmidt&Bender or Zeiss, something with German glass anyways, which is even better than the Nightforce glass. That's just my opinion of course.

Great scope, I use it for stalking and John Galway has one he uses exclusively for Foxing.(exact spec you stipulate)

If you like neck shooting deer the NP:-R2 Reticle is ideal

I love the reticle and the mag is ideal for stalking, especially when you want to take those longer 200-300 yards shots.

I've been using Nightforce scopes 5.5-22x56 and 8-32x56 since 2006
( I bought the 8-32 first and the 5.5-22 some time after that not sure exactly).

    Are they custom rigs?

I have only seen 1 RPA action to date, love to see pics of your rifles

They are the general purpose hunter model [ not the thumb hole version ] I have the 22/250 coming up on 3 years. Will have 243 2 years in sept. Not the lightest of rifles but do the job for me. 22/250 is used for lamping foxes we cover a big area from Landrover. 243 mostly used culling Sika from high seats I am very happy with them using homeloads [its legal ] up here gives great results

As stated earlier the night force is a great scope , But when it comes to stalking there is more to take into account other than high mag , Before deciding on a stalking scope you have to take into account clarity , Field of view , eye relief and also Dusk and dawn light transmission . Which simply makes S&B , ZEISS , SWAROVSKI and KAHLES just to name a few are better suited for stalking over NIGHT FORCE . Before a few of you start ranting about NIGHT FORCE (Waiting for it :D) and 1000 yards paper shooting the ops question was in relation to a stalking scope not a paper punching scope . This is just my opinion ;)

    My opinion

NF 5.5-22x56, has wonderful light transmission, excellant field of view and perfect reticle for woodland stalking as you can adjust illum to leave the reticle clear in almost darkness.

For Stalking Toughness and ruggedness is required.
No scope is designed tougher than a NF.

I've had a Swaro and I found the fact that the parra was on the obj end was old fashioned and poor ergo.

I could have bought any scope at the time, and after careful consideration and trials of a few scopes, Nikon, Zeiss and Swaro.
I went for NF and never looked back.

The NF is not cheap, but they are worth every penny. I have used the NF scopes in -18 and +30 deg's, snow, rain dust. They work ;)

I always hear about these guys who say, German Glass fixed Mag.(FYI Swaro is Austrian)
The same guys use wooden stocks and wonder why they have a varying point of impact in different conditions.

NF scopes are made in Japan and assembled in the US. They are tried and tested in the field, Both in Civilian and Military the world over

For those who want less range and better light

Is it your opinion night force has better eye relief , field of view and light transmission than say zeiss , s&b and swarovski

All these are tried and tested in the field of stalking ,

Never mentioned fixed mag or range ;)

The way you talk about ruggedness and military.... How many stalkers jump from helicopters in -18 conditions :D:D

I think the op wanted peoples opinion on the best stalking scope not what rambo would pick if he was stalking deer at a mile :D:D

    In my opinion .

Last winter and early this year we had -18 daily during the stalking season.

I have fallen without losing zero on more than one occasion.

Not every stalker sits in a hide and "hopes" a deer will walk by :D

I used a weighted scoring method when chosing the scope, the NF came out the highest score.;)

I agree with a bit of what you say.

We two were out stalking in very cold conditions as well ,and the zeiss and s&bs performed flawless as should any premium quality scope should .

And as for falling while out stalking all quality scopes are shock tested ;)

A few friends i was out with have the night forces and at dusk when the s&b and zeiss can clearly identify deer the night force struggles to pick up the silhouette .

Also the eye relief on the night force is very fussy for stalking

For stalking purposes the european optics offer a better range of scopes for the job in hand :P

I had always used S+B scopes 8x56 before I got my first Nightforce. Now only use S+B on .17 HMR. Never had any loss of zero problems with Nightforce, Couldnt say the same for the S+B. I dont use any of my rifles for punching holes in paper at 1000 yds. And I do not take shots at deer at reckless distances. All Deer are neck shot and I cant fault Nightforce in anyway.

I think the op wanted peoples opinion on the best stalking scope ............ .

No. He asked a specific question on a specific make and a specific model.

I have and have had many NF scopes. They are unparallelled for magnification. That aside the glass is top quality. While i will conceed that other brands are better for duck/dawn shooting that benefit is overshadowed by their higher price tag.

I would not make a case for picking a NF over other higher end brands. Each has their own advantages that the other does not have.

However in relation to the OP's question if you have decided to go for a NightForce then you wll not be dissappointed.

Don't see a request for OPINIONS on other scopes? Well done for VOLUNTEERING it though. Always nice to have a plan B or S&B or Z(eiss).

I gave an OPINION on the NF:confused:;) And pointed out there let downs for stalking . And also gave him an informed opinion on superior stalking scopes ;) If my main use for a scope was paper punching and not stalking i would pick a NF what do you use your NF for mainly ;) You seem to more in the mood to try correct me rather than giving the advantages of using the M NF
