The Coolest Person You Have Met

I used to live / work in Belgium and my landlord of the apartment I was renting was in the Belgian Airforce flying F-16's. Really sound guy, and just oozed coolness. Often used to drop in to the bar I worked in for a beer after his shift in his flight gear, mirrored aviator sunglasses, the lot - women were all over him like a rash! Used to go out to 'party' with him some nights - fun, fun times (yeah, I got the left overs)!

So who's the coolest person you know personally / have met? (Doesn't have to be anyone famous or anything)

Are you sure they weren't just mistaking him for a stripogram?

They were drinking in a bar in Belfast a few years when I wandered up behind them and mumbled their names to see if it was really them. Good night's drinking involved afterwards

Watched Juve beat Ajax on penos with the Pats team in '96 but was in awe of him as a kid. Even though he was a footballer, and in my eyes world class, he smoked like a chimney too

    Brian Kerr was there too

My Dad raised me to believe that Thin Lizzy songs were mother's milks.

I was gutted when I heard Gary Moore had died - he used to throw me an odd free ticket to his shows every now and then, genuinely nice guys

Ritchie Havens. A proper cool person. Amazing singer and a good story teller along with it. He played in a small bar here in Galway and had the good fortune to talk with him after the gig.

Down at the hospital it has to be the ultrasound guy, or when he's away the hip replacement guy.

Once when I was buying a CD I turned around and saw Richie Kavanagh standing beside me at the counter. It was the best day of my life. He's even cooler in real life than he is in his music videos.

For me it was this washed-up Italian actor in his late twenties (well, not so much washed-up as never-made-it-in-the-first-place) who I used to stack shelves with. Good with comebacks and a quick sense of humour, smooth.

An all-round cool guy, he could burst into a sudden flurry of tap dancing.

    Brightened up many a day...

I met Johnny Depp in Liverpool. He was there with Johnny Vegas. I was sitting at the bar with a mate when in walked Johnny Vegas along with this guy in a hoodie. They sat next to us at the bar. After a few minutes the guy took his hood down and it was Mr. Depp. He was cool as f**k and we shared a few jokes with them.

Depp seems to have a wide circle from what i've noticed from the media and other places. Kinda makes him cooler...

Had a chip fight with him and his buddies.
We were drunk teenagers and were being complete and utter ****.
He saw the funny side of it.
He really is a cool bastard.

In saying that, he's not as cool as his buddies' ex wife.
Jerry Hall is the coolest person I've ever met.
Down to earth and classy as ****. Actually, classier than ****, because **** isn't really classy.
    She's the epitome of cool.

I work with the coolest guy ever. When I've had a few drinks, and he's rolling out a self-deprecating anecdote about his exceptionally cool past, my party piece is to tell him that he's our Don Draper.
On a day-to-day basis, he is a dream to work with. I had to do a very small, slightly tedious job for him yesterday. He strolled over to my desk, complimented me on my recent haircut, and gave me a short briefing on what he wanted done, all issued in a tone that said, "Hey, we'll play along with this charade of me being boss, but I *know* you'll do this perfectly."
You can keep your Cantonas, your Ronnie Woods and your Jonny Depps - in my book, somebody who can, day after day, get the job done and make everyone feel better about themselves is a star...

Jim McCann. Meself and the brother ended up on an unmerciful bender with him and his soundman (no pun intended) one Tuesday morning in a pub that could seat over 100 people and we were the only four people there.

Had no idea who he was. It wasn't until after four pints, when I tried to start a ballad session, that me brother dragged me aside, and explained to me why they were laughing, when i asked them did they know the words to Raglan Road?:o

    Coolest guy in the world. And funny as fcuk. We all got burgers as a bit of soakage at lunchtime, which I thought were quite nice;

Jim McCann (taking a huge bite): " I wouldn't give that to my dog"

Me (enjoying a huge bite): "Why not?"

Jim McCann: "To spite him." (Takes another huge bite with relish).

    Coolest man ever.

Two German motorbike cops in their leathers. One of them was blond, 6'6" and built and the other one was dark, 6'4" and rangy. Very cool to a pair of Irish teens. Unfortunately, mine (the blond) blew it when he told me his wife didn't understand him. :D

After 6 pints of beer I need only look in the mirror.

Even when I wake up the next morning with that hungover drunkness, Im still like, wow, how awesome am I.

My seven-year-old nephew Tiarnán. Last winter when the roads were really icy I skidded the car and he was in the back with his three (younger) first cousins. They started crying one after the other and Tiarnán turned around and calmed them down by distracting them by playing games and singing while I tried to get the car out of the ice. This went on for a good 20 minutes. When we got home and they were out of sight he burst out crying to me. My hero!
