London or Edinburgh. Precisely nothing happens in Ireland for new year but i would urge you to come and spend lots of money on either side of New Years.

Dont go to Dublin... You will prefer Galway. Belfast is great craic too.

Jaysus, don't go to Belfast on New Years. Although its good fun, the niteclubs close at 1.30am.

LOL far out, that's a lot of research I'm going to have to do! Good job all, thanks and haha @ the suggestion of spending NYE in Scotland or England! :P We'll definitely be in Ireland!

LOL nah, I've tried many times and succeeded only in creating much in the way of laughter from observers, and coughing salt water from my lungs...but for the sake of keeping up appearances, I'm the klutz amongst my friends and ALL of them surf (that is a bold-faced lie, but lots of them do!)

Hello! My friend and I are travelling from Australia for a few weeks in Ireland at the end of this year, and we'd really like some advice on where to spend New Years Eve. We're very much open to either the city or a little country town! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

Back in the day I spent an amazing New Year staying in Jury's Inn directly opposite ChristChurch Cathedral in Dublin. We had a room at the front of the hotel so heard the amazing bells being rung out for the New Year, but we also attended the concert of Gregorian Chant there earlier that night. Another New Year we also stayed there but went over to Hughes's pub on Chancery Row (behind the Four Courts) for an amazing trad. seisiún - in fact two seisiúin. We had New Year twice as there was a slew of French people there and they celebrated the New Year an hour ahead of us, so the entire pub celebrated the New Year at 11pm as well as midnight. Glory days of yore.

Dingle in Kerry is the best place for New years in Ireland, don't stay in Dublin for it, it shuts down!

Be careful if you plan on going somewhere remote - the weather last winter was bad and roads were icy, so if you're driving or taking a bus you'd be better off sticking to cities and big towns. West Cork, Kerry, Clare etc are all beautiful but you don't want to get stranded there either!

Right, I'm sure you've made your plans by this stage, but, without a doubt, Dingle in Co. Kerry is the best place to go.

I guess I can't really say for sure that it's the place to be, because it's the only place I've ever spent New Year's, but still, it's great craic there!!!

I'm gonna take this as true as it was in all the local newspapers last year (but I don't know the original source): Some poll gathered that Dingle was in the TOP 20 places IN THE WORLD to spend New Year's Eve.

So yeah, go on, pop down! It's absolutely fantastic in this corner of the globe!
