told you all on here weeks ago that it was just new packages, nobody listened!

    I listened to you Shanemhoban . ;)

I am just wondering if they will do anything for existing customers . I am already paying 82 a month with them for 2 HD box's and broadband .

25mb entry level on broadband is putting it up to their competitors.Their broadband is the best available at the moment but i have cancelled their tv a few months ago due to lack of decent channels. Its saorview+freesat for me from now on.My phone bill with Blueface is always €15 and their phone charge
is €18 minimum per month. They should look into this too.

    Typical :(

Wonder is worth while ringing up to cancel? Only problem I would have there is I only have NTL since Feb '11.

What? Surely these offers being available to existing customers is a good thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Err... re-read what was posted: they are available to existing customers.

Just been on to them about the changes in the contract (halving of the download cap).

I'm currently on 20MB with Digital Max+ for €87 per month.

According to "Eddie" my cap will not be downgraded at all, I asked him to doublecheck as that wasn't the impression I had, he did & confirmed it.

He also mentioned that I could go to 100MB & cut a further €2 off my bill when it's launched :)

I asked would there be any announcement on TV channels & he said there was a further six channels coming in about six weeks, but there would be no announcement made about them today as they haven't signed on yet.

Did he say if they were SD or HD Channels?

Just been speaking to UPC and unless you ring in requesting to be changed you will stay on whatever package you are currently on. If you change its a new 12 month contract and you go to the new price for the package. So basically you either stay on your current speed and cap or change to the new speed and cap, no mixing and matching.

Don't have HD available to me here (in the wilds of Dublin 13), so didn't think to ask.

To sum up, UPC will be the best broadband and phone provider for service and price, provided you live in a major city, but will continue to be the worst digital tv service provider , city dwellers already think it's poor and their digital MMDS service in the country areas is a joke, for price and packages.
If Sky could add broadband to their service in ROI, the same as they do in UK, UPC could close down.

So is their basic broadband speed going to be 25mb ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭losttheplot

I signed up to the Fibre Freedom Starter (20mb) package two days ago but it wont be installed for at least a week.
Does anyone one know if the download cap is changing - I could not see definite details anywhere.

Yes, it looks like the download cap on the 25Mb/s product will only be 120GB.

So you are better off staying at 20Mb/s with the 250GB cap and €1 cheaper.

Thanks, yes I think I'll go/stay with 5mb less speed for 130gb extra cap allowance

I've always had the 20mb broadband, but just checked the details of my last bill and 25 mb has been automatically applied.

anyone know if there is any word on them ditching the €7.50 fee if you have broadband without TV service

Unlikely. The providing of any cable service obviously has an inherent cost to them no matter what it is. It therefore makes sense that there either be a surcharge for individual products, or a discount for bundling them.

Like imagine if you wanted a mobile only to receive calls, the networks would still charge you something (and they do - even if you don't spend it, you have to top up periodically to prevent them closing the account)

They seem to choose the former, rather than the latter (thought the latter seems better from a marketing perspective)

    hi guys,

i am currently on the 10Mb (120Gb cap), does this mean i will get bumped up to 25Mb?? If so happy customer here...

Do you need to ring or will it happen automatically? any time frame?

    Cheers,

They wouldn't. How would Sky deliver broadband? If it would be so competitive, why isn't any other company properly competitive with UPC broadband-wise?

Because they're all limited by eircom's crappy infrastructure. So would Sky be. We're not with UPC cause the broadband can be on the same bill. We're with UPC cause the broadband is actually good.

Any news of rolling out their broadband to more rural areas?
Pretty sick of eircom and their woeful service at this stage.

Yes, sort of. They are dropping the fee, or rather they have added the cost of the fee directly onto the price of the standalone BB products.

See my post here for details:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=72045486
They wouldn't. How would Sky deliver broadband? If it would be so competitive, why isn't any other company properly competitive with UPC broadband-wise?

In the UK, they deliver BB via ADSL. They have installed their own high quality gear in thousands of phone exchanges. They also use BT network where they don't have their own gear.

Where they have their own gear, the price of BB is incredibly low and the service is considered pretty excellent. One of the best BB services in the country.

They are now planning to run their own fibre optic cables to peoples homes to offer even greater speeds.

So yes it would be brilliant if Sky did the same in Ireland and if UPC continues to compete so aggressively, I think they will.

That is the core of the argument really. If, let's say, Sky were to give away broadband as in the UK (which they subsequently charged for) you would have Eircom line Rental, and infrastructural impairment, to contend with. Some on this thread are wishing UPC into oblivion. As I've said many times in the past, if there were no UPC it would be a far different landscape in this country. And probably a more expensive one.

    Anywho its on twitter:

New Fibrepower Starter bundle: 25MB, Phone, Digital Value + and Home phone with Freetime world all for €60

For €5 more you can double your speed in that bundle to 50MB!

Fibrepower Ultimate: For those who want it all, 100MB, Digital Max + and Home phone with Freetime world all for €85

This all means that UPC's broadband entry speed is 25MB - that's fast

Just checked my speed at home, I should be getting up to 10MB. Getting less presently. Do you know will people like me be upgraded to something like 25MB automatically and if so any idea when?.

You won't be upgraded automatically, you need to request an upgrade. You won't be able to request an upgrade until Monday.

It wont be automatic, you can stay or move. There's a few things to consider:

    • You'll need to check because CAP's changed so see if a change will reduce your CAP and wether or not you're OK with that.
    • Also if you move, it's a new 12 month contract.
It's available from May 9th (monday) for all customers
