There are a few every year, and have been for the last couple of years. They fall under the cover of the NRAI.

You can check dates on their website.

    Thanks Ez,

seems to be all 1k comps.

I was thinking of tweaking my CZ 223 for 300meter shooting, but don't see much point if there were no comps at that range.

I know of only 1 person with a .223 target rifle. I'm not talking about a tweaked varmint rifle or anything like that, i mean a fully customised, built from the ground up, target rifle. Firing 90gr VLDs in a 1:8 twist 28" (i think) match grade barrel.

There are no others shooting competively with a .223 rifle. They simply cannot compete with the .308 rifles at 800+ yards.

As most of the FTR shooters/benchrest lads shoot 800+ there is little need for them to be shooting 300. Not that it cannot be done or even that there is no competition for it as its very popular in Europe and America.

Might be worth a word in the right ears to get one started. Neither the .308 nor the .223 would have any distinct advantage over the other at 300.

    Left handed by any chance?

Honestly cannot remember. I do know that out to 600 yards his MOA for elevation was the same as my .308 using 175gr SMK.

I seen a very similar rifle above at fergal whites the last time I was there, in a Enda Walsh stock! Was going to be using 90gr VLDs also!

I only copped it once it was gone out the door that it was left handed, sickened as its not often you would get the chance to hold a left handed custom stock! :(

Different rifle so. Nice to know that there are more .223 target rifles being made.

Using 75gr BTHP at 600, loaded to 2.50OAL(to fit in magazine) you need about 17min of elevation(20in barrell)
In order to use 80gr or above they must be loaded long i.e longer than magazine length which means single round loading, and you will need a 1 in 9 twist at least and preferably quicker.

At 600yds the .223 has slightly less wind drift than 308, but opens out after that.

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.

Do you ever shoot Berger VLD's at 600? in a 1/8 twist 24" Trueflite what groups would you think I might be able to achieve?

I want to see if anyone has used them in 24" before I buy them

It's a lot of funds to shell out on 500 rounds if they are not as good as I hope :o
