If possible try and keep it to off the radar bands, if they've been nominated for an award or had a big album release chances are we've already heard them. If they've been around for years we've already heard of them. So fresh new bands please...

Here's one and it's not an instant grab, the vocals are low but he writes a truly beautiful song and it's worth imo giving a good ear to.

So I thought I’d make things difficult on myself by picking three acts who haven’t really broken through, and still haven’t appeared on too many other blogs. So now you can really say “I listened to them before they were famous!”

The Boondalk Saints
Cleverly named after the 1999 gangster film the Boondock Saints, the Dundalk/Navan foursome released their self-titled EP in January of this year. It contains three straight-up rock tunes, with really catchy choruses. Prepare to turn the volume up to the max.

The only Irish thing I've been listening to lately is Solar Bears, which I quite enjoy. I've no idea about their status...

It's electronic stuff mixed "real"/acoustic instruments, I guess if you're into Forest Swords, Bibio... that type of thing then they're worth checking out. emm... that said, it's got a real 70's thing going on... I reckon they listened to Harmonia, it reminds me of them.

This is a band from Cork I think, i've seen them twice in Limerick and Cork. I thought they were very good, they had a serious following in Cork when i saw them with the crowd singing to nearly all there songs.

They have a myspace page and facebook page

Windings have been around for years, maybe not the most active.

The lads that I posted above (The Voodoos) are doing very well in the States. Were on Daytime TV in Seattle this morning and can't get a mention from the music media here. I loved them the first time I saw them live and the same with almost everybody I know. Their FB fans are now pushing towards 3,000 but still nothing here..

(Jeff - just in case the comment you posted under my post was towards me!! - It's not my Band. I'm just a huge fan since I first saw them playing. You will be too when you see them )

Check these guys out, www.myspace.com/theradioactivegrandma. I've seen them a few times on the Monaghan /Cavan /Dundalk area and they've supported Henrietta Game a couple of times. They have an EP out at the moment and an album in the works. From the material I've heard (and not on the EP) they have some brilliant songs that will be big hits in the next 12 months. Nice to see more talent emerging from this area.
