Was out for the last few evenings hitting paper at 100mts
    (tikka .243 & mod)
Trying to stay fresh over the long summer months.
Lying prone with a soft support under the stock I'm Not getting great groupings @3 inches but blaming a new ammo im using.
I want to get it under 2 Inches for greys and magpies
My question is - what is the general concensus for position of the free hand while firing i.e under or over stock for a more consistant result

    cheers cc 30.........

My question is - what is the general concensus for position of the free hand while firing i.e under or over stock for a more consistant result

I use an under the stock (rear i presume is what you're talking about) hold. Even if supported by a rear bag (ie. target shooting) i still use the under stock approach.

Get down into the prone position and have your dominant hand on the grip and gun against your shoulder. Place your left arm/hand (non-dominant arm) under the stock and "wrap" it back around/along the rear stock as if placing it on your shoulder. I then "squeeze" a little to give a more soild hold and the amount of squeeze will help with rasiing or dropping the rear of the rifle and allow me to easily and quickly adjust my sight picture.

This works for me, but may not be to everyone's taste. Sounds unhelpful, but try a few and see which is the most comfortable/natural position. If you are getting any aches or pains from a certain position move slightly until you are completely at ease.

Rememebr what works for one will not suit another.

    Tanx,
will try this next time out....I need to find a good, quick & comfortable position ........Its amazing how you begin to question all the stuff that usually comes natural when your not hitting the spot, I will also put some federal down the line to check ammo quality......
