Anyone else on the IP facebook? I haven't been in in 2 months, what the **** happened? Devastated for Barry if what I think happened has actually come to pass.

    From the IP facebook page

Unfortunately, Informed Performance is now closed.

We would like to thank our customers for their support over the last 2 years, and we wish all of them the very best in the future.

Best place to speculate is on internet forums!

I'm kind of shocked IP's closed, would have thought there'd be x amount of new members from TF closing, and it just seemed to be doing well with all the positive feedback it gets from everyone etc.

Lads, cop on. Taking side-swipes at other businesses is hardly going to do anything for the thread.

Aw man that's a huge shame. That place was the mutts nuts.

I have to say, if it's true, it's sh*t. :( A top notch gym providing a top notch and badly needed service.

I'm the last person to do that! I've even reported posts for the same reason on this forum... Afterall, these were the 2 biggest facilities in a city, competing for the same market in a way. It's a bit of eulogy banter.

    It's 100% true sadly.

The fitness forum is not, and has never been** a place for fun.

**Not strictly true, it used to be fun before everyone started getting so sensitive.

This is very bad news indeed.

Very bad news for strength and conditioning in Ireland and really sad to see a business closing.

I would wish Barry the best of success in his new MMA club. He's a great guy and a fantastic coach.

Absolutely gutted! Amazing facility with amazing coaches, I'm my opinion the best strength and conditioning facility around

I wish will and Barry all the best in the future

Sorry to hear this. Had always intended to train here sometime if I moved house.
Someone tell me why it closed since it seems not have been said here...
Will def keep an eye out for whatever Will or Barry go on to.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭Magic Eight Ball

Hopefully Will might stick around and provide some sort of strength and conditioning/coaching/rehab/common sense service. (It's badly needed)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Bruce7

Terrible news. IP ticked all the boxes. I thought it was great value even though I only went once a week, and it is totally out of my way. I wasted about two months this year listening to physios about a shoulder injury and Will sorted it in about five minutes.

Hope this won't discourage people from opening other facilities that follow the same model.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,853 ✭✭✭ragg

Genuinely gutted if this news is true. Barry and Will are two of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

Best of luck in the future to both!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,660 ✭✭✭G86

Totally gutted myself too, top facility, but I think that out of respect the less speculation here the better - anyone who wants to know the ins and outs should mail Will or Barry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,541 ✭✭✭Davei141

With so many IP logs in the fitness section this has come as a huge surprise. Sorry to all involved the place sounded brilliant.

Just as Total Fitness closing down was a black day for fitness in the city, the members at least could find a comparable gym/s. In this case unfortunately I don't think there is one, which makes it all the more dismal.

Best wishes to Will, Barry and Paul with future ventures and to the members looking for alternatives.

I never understood the perception of CF vs IP here, it just wasn't the case. They are both small businesses run by passionate people with ultimately the same aim, suggesting that either would take solace in the others misfortune is really scraping the barrel.

Is this "CF's gain = IP's loss" notion all it is? I don't understand all the hush if so. I was beginning to think something really unsavoury or sensitive was being alluded to in all these posts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭mack32

hopefully Will or Barry will post something to explain the circumstances so we can eliminate the guesswork, there seems to be a few opinions floating around as to what will happen next

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭howtomake

Sorry to hear that, I've never been but had planned to go. And sorry for all of you that went there too, sounded like a really special place. Only met Will once and he was sound too.

    That's important.
I have a lot of sympathy for somebody who makes a hack at a good business and goes out of business.

But I feel for most of the people on here who trained there.
There really aren't a whole lot of other options for them now.
I would hate to have found a gym that gives me what I want and has a good atmosphere and then lose it.

There's nowhere comparable in the city. It's a huge loss.

If you see someone doing a C1 or C2 style session in your local globogym, you'll know you're in the presence of one of the privileged few who got to train in IP.

I do that sometimes, usually way out of the way in the abz section of my local gym or something.

Jesus. I never trained there (in fact I remember having a fight on here with Will / Barry over the prices) but always heard great things, and assumed they were doing a great trade. Sad to see any gym close, really, never mind one that pushed itself as truly different.

I've been doing funky sh*t for the last week in a hotel gym in Tipperary. Lunging, sumo walking, quad walking etc etc up and down the length of it for warm ups, doing EDT style work blocks and row intervals. I'd say people think I'm crazy.

Absolutely massive difference between IP and any other gym I've been in. I really had high hopes for my training since joining. I don't know very much about fitness and programmes and all that and I rely on that expertise. I always felt like I was sort of wasting my time in the gym but I couldn't see that happening in IP. To be honest I sort of feel like I won't be where I would have been in 6 months time now. I was only going there a few weeks but I can't imagine what it's like for people who were regulars for far longer. And then the guys whose business it was... Big blow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭Dathai

Christ, that's awful. I was actually planning on switching to there in July when my membership is finished at my current gym.

These things happen I guess, which is sad to say. Obviously whatever the guys behind this do it'll be well received. All the best with future endeavours guys.

Hanley, whats in store for yourself now? Where will you be heading to train, weights wise and BJJ, MMA and so on as I guess there ain't many places that will suit you now with everything under one roof.

I have to say im absolutely gutted to hear this news. I actually didnt believe the facebook post so called in there this morning. Place is cleared out. I just wanted to put up a post to say it was my absolute privilige to have trained in IP for the last year. Barry and Will are two absolute gents and fantastic trainers and i wish them the best in whatever they decide to do going forward. IP for me was the pinnacle of waht a good gym should be. On days when i didnt want to train and was feeling low i went there and left feeling fantastic, on days when i thought i was the main man i would soon be brought down to earth (usually by a girl or a bloke half my size) During my time in IP i dropped serious body fat and every single one of my lifts increased. I genuinely dont know what im going to do now. If anyone has any news on maybe a new facility or whatever please let me know. Anyway, once again cheers Barry and Will for your time and knowledge. It is very much appreciated.

A rake of posts have been deleted from the thread, please keep things on topic and civil and report posts if and when needed.

I'm as in the dark as anyone else about why IP has closed but I wish Barry and Will the very best and I hope everyone who trained there finds somewhere new without too much disruption.

It's very disappointing to see independent gyms like this go by the wayside

So where to next for the rest of ya?
I'm living on the northside and wondering are there any remotely comparable gyms?don't fancy re-joining my old gym.
The 'raw' deal seems like good value for any of you living on the southside.

Heading back to RAW myself. Give COH on here a shout, he'll sort out anyone coming over from IP. I'm on parnell street so it's not too far...not sure about anywhere Northside tbh, the only other place I'd considered was Ironside and that's in Blackrock which was just too far for me.
