How does this compare to the Galaxy S II? I think it's time to move to the Android platform.

Think this is the handset I've been waiting for. Only question is will be it be available on these shores?

Am I missing something here - does it not look very similiar to the HTC desire -
Of course I dont know the tech specs but on looks alone it already has a rival.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

Don't judge a book by it's cover kippy. The main benefits are a larger screen, higher-resolution, and vastly more powerful internals along with a few other bells and whistles updated from the desire.

Yep, theres a major increase in internal memory alright but to be honest, unless they have managed to eek another 24 hours out of the battery (which I doubt very much as the screen is that much better and there is better hardware) I dont think it will be worth the upgrade from the desire - edit unless you can get it as a freebie.

Yeah its due to be announced at the HTC event on London today and Vodafone uk had it up on their site briefly. Im interested in seeing the tech specs vs the Galaxy II and what battery it has :p

I think its defiantly going to be worth an upgrade from the Desire, but as I said im waiting on the tech specs to be sure.

Doesn't the dual core processor improve battery performance, even from the much improved battery life that was touted for the Incredible S and Desire S?

Hopefully this will be available here, although I don't think I'll upgrade my Desire until maybe this time next year, depending on new handsets.

    Will this ship with Gingerbread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,043 ✭✭✭allen175

I would say that it will ship with gingerbread, i doubt that any flagship phones being released in the next while will ship with froyo.

I just hope vodafone here won't be the only carrier with it.

Seems like it will be a Vodafone exclusive for a while at least.
It's a bit light on the RAM and Internal storage compared to the Galaxy S 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭CombatCow

Ooh Gorilla Glass too, I didn't think it would arrive in Europe so soon, the article says "European markets in mid-May". Who in their right mind would buy the Incredible S now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭5500

Decisions decisions! I has the Galaxy s II pre ordered but Im thinking of cancelling for this now. My only fear is that it may end up like the desire HD release and keep getting pushed back, I saw stereo audio mentioned somewhere too so Im hoping they have bumped up the crappy loudspeaker that was on the DHD, Im also way of the end user being a beta tester for problems that the handset might have ie sms issue on DHD ect.

Looks like a very tasty potential upgrade from my Desire later this year!

Seeing as this has been released now - anybody know how much juice the batter has in it? In mAh obviously.

Evo 3D still winning for me with more onboard memory, more RAM and a bigger battery (even if it is a bit uglier)

I'm in two minds. Wont have to wait as long for the sensation but rather the evolution 3d. Ill try hold out for evo but I'm really impatient

Have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of NFC, I know it's not very useful yet, but might be over the next 18 months, Zapa have already said they are going to implement it in their next android app, and there are plenty of credit card implementation trials underway. My Hero is really dying and will have to jump soon - although this looks fab, will probably go for SGS2

4.3 is a very large screen and Ive got a feeling that it will be expensive here. Although they are saying it will be a reasonable price. That or the incredible will be a good deal cheaper. I dont like the rim around the screen and think the incredible is better looking

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,898 ✭✭✭✭seanybiker

4.3 is a great size. I'm after getting so used to it now I can't imagine going for a smaller screen again.

I'm still happy with my N1 but i'm starting to look for something new coming out over the next few months. This looks like it might fit the bill.:)

is this already out for sale in the shops? How much is it?

    Thank you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

I still wait for the day HTC will get rid of the Micro SD card and just go for Flash memory for better battery life and performance.

Though thumbs up :) seems HTC is back in the game :)

By the time NFC becomes useful you'll be upgrading from either of these phones

I agree. NFS wont take of like a blazing fire hire. Will take years for businesses around Ireland to adapt it.

You first need to adapt consumers to the idea of wirelss payments and especially using your phone for it and prove to them that its secure in case they lose it or it gets stolen.

I think there is NFC in it. Pretty sure I saw an NFC antenna when they took the back cover off on the Engadget hands on video

According to el Reg, Voda and Three will have it first in UK: http://www.reghardware.com/2011/04/13/vodafone_three_htc_sensation/

HTC's latest Android phone, the modestly named Sensation, will be coming to Vodafone first, but that didn't stop Three chipping in to say it will be offering the video-centric handset too.

The Sensation is described by HTC as a "multimedia superphone" - clearly, the handset maker's self-deprecation knows no bounds. Perhaps HTC stands for 'Hyped-up Talker Corporation' these days...

It features a 4.3in screen, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a camera capable of shooting 1080p video.

Your home movies can be relayed to a telly using the Sensation's HDMI output.

Neither Vodafone nor Three said when they will sell the Sensation, or what it'll cost when they do. We'll let you know as soon as we hear. ®

Hmm, I have DHD at the moment and I would like to change for something new but this isn't something awesome...all I'm missing are better speaker and hdmi out...this ghz race is getting silly, the only benefit is better battery management I would say, what will be next magical 2ghz?

An extra core too, as well as qHD resolution in the same size of screen making for a much sharper picture over the HD.

Not saying they are critical for everyone but when you compare the screen of a Desire to the screen of an iPhone4 with the iPhone's ridiculous retina screen there's a huge advantage to the iPhone. The Sensation will go a long way to bridging this gap but will still fall short.

Might be tmepting enough for me to upgrade from my HTC Desire alright :)

Probably going to be on the pricey side, hopefully Carphone warehouse do the whole trade in thing, my original desire still fetches €150 last time I checked.

And heres hoping to unbranded and unlocked, cant stand branded phones.

You could easily sell a desire for more than €150 . i'd be looking for €250+ if selling mine. Sure envirofone offer more for it

might not be a bad shout in that case for an upgrade.

Yeah but im sure envirofone is looking for a phone in tip top condition. Also the value goes down depending on the state of the phone

According to Expansys.ie's website ... they have the HTC Sensation available for pre-order ... http://www.expansys.ie/htc-sensation-217480/

just rang them there outta curiousity and they said that they'll have it in stock from 2nd May! Whoop!

Surely that means the carriers will have it in around the same time?

hmmm I have a DHD and want to change it (just got bored) I will go for sensation but I have problem with taking android phone with three software...do you have experience with three phones vs new updates? I am due to upgrade in 4 weeks :D

I'm prepay on Meteor, presume stock will be limited when first released and only available to bill pay so I might try buy online.

Never bought a phone from expansys(or online), would their prices be similar to prepay prices on Meteor?

Just had a look at expansys and they have the HTC Desire for 409, Meteor have it online for for 379.... so a 30 difference....plus I think you get 60 free credit

I think I could live with a 30 eur difference but if it was much more I may just wait till Meteor eventually release to prepay customers...

    Hmmmmm

Gonna try old out for the evo3d. Hope its not to much of a wait

Ok an Android noobie currently using Nokia N900 but after much deliberation me thinks that this is the phone for me. Can only see it on Expansys and I am looking for a sim free one as currently on 02 PAYG. Any other sites have it on pre order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,785 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

I pre ordered this from Expansys. I rang both them & HTC & nobody knows when it will be released. The wait continues can't wait to see it although no cost yet for it either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Zagato

Remember pre ordering doesn't mean you've made a commitment to expansys, they're onftne not got the first stock or the cheapest, keep an eye on other sites like handtec and clove

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

O2 have confirmed on their forums that they will not be stocking the Sensation.
Vodafone confirmed they will be but not revealing when.
Meteor say they are considering it.

All this according forum admins only though so I'm sure is open to change.
