It depends on the beer, nothing nicer than a well - poured Guinness or some good German weissbier or English ale.

    Cider that's not sweet?

The reason I hate Bulmers so much is because it's so sweet.
    Might try this stuff.
I'm pretty sure that Old Rosie is the one I'm thinking of. Bought it in an off-license in North Dublin, somewhere between Connelly Station, and Finglas.

because I don't. This has only dawned on me now. I still drink it, but I don't find the taste pleasant.
Op, if you don't like, don't drink it.

cool, didn't know you could get Old Rosie here, used to drink it in Bristol.

I never liked beer until the last year when I started trying out more brews. favourites would be Blue Moon, La Fin Du Monde, Delirium Nocturnum and Wells Banana Bread Beer. However, I usually drink Bavaria cos that's what my local Centra sells for cheap :/ Any beer is good so long as it's ice cold and you've earned it though, i find. And if I have limes, I'll add a wedge.

Like most such questions, it depends entirely on the particular beer in question. Some of them taste great, some of them are vile, and some are "meh".

It depends on the beer and my mood / circumstance. After work I can neck a pint of guinness in two swigs, fúckin hungry for the stuff. On a night out, by the 2nd or 3rd pint I start to tire of it and it begins to taste like dishwater. I then move onto the spirits and it all goes down hill from there!

Inis and Gunn is quite simply the finest beer I have ever tasted

I can't drink beer at all, it's just disgusting! I'll stick with my vodka and alco-pops thanks.

Try some Belgian, German or French beers, they're much nicer than Budweiser and similar lagers.

Although Irish and English red ale is very nice as well. Smithwicks would be my regular drink.

It's a shame most places don't stock good beers, due to the general lack of demand for good beer:(

I've tasted all the bog standard beers and ciders - never been drunk because I dont drink but I've had the odd sip just to taste - and tbh they all taste like piss. That's why I dont drink. :P

Op, if you don't like, don't drink it.

Well if I had the choice on a night out, I'd be drinking whiskey and coke all night long. However this is not a good financial decision. I drink pints of beer and put up with the mediocre taste to get me going.

Well yeah... otherwise I wouldn't drink it.
I like a nice ale or cider. The "beer" that tastes like rat piss such as Bud or whatnot, I don't drink.

Its horrible. Only drink for effect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,173 ✭✭✭✭seamus

It's exactly the same as coffee. And burnt toast. The first few times it's horrible, but then you learn to appreciate it and eventally love it.

Appreciation comes as you get older and get a more sophisticated palette so you learn to enjoy the subtlety of flavours. As a child you just ram everything into your mouth and don't care too much about the flavour.
As you get older you learn to savour.

Though stuff like Budweiser and Heineken from the tap is still just fizzy acidic crap with no body. I'll never learn to enjoy them because there's nothing to enjoy. Miller from the tap is tolerable at a push, but bottled beers are that bit better.

Guinness is the only drink I've found is much better from the tap than a bottle, but obviously the quality of the pint can vary. Mmm, Guinness...
