I think what you are looking for does not exist!

The only Free shooting is for Club members.

If you want to fund raise, approach a club; and they might offer to run a charity shoot.

If that is what you are asking?
    Do you shoot yourself?
Or are you looking for fund raising opportunities?

Well if there is why are you asking here if you know the answer already?

I have at least had to pay a tenner to shoot in clays where I was not a member, and then i had to give prior notice and produce insurance and my licence.

Anyone can go watch shooting sports for free, competing requires membership and insurance on most grounds.

I'm not trying to be smart here, but I think you have the wrong ewnd of teh stick.

Is there a list of clay shooting grounds in Mayo / Sligo on the boards?

Having to show insurance sounds ridiculous.
Clay shoots I've been to already have it so the public can show up and take part. :)

Did you have to be a member of the NARGC to enter?

Any decent range wil demand insurance and i believe quite rightly so. Mainly for the protection of the range/club.

I have organised a few club shoots on public land, but had a few hoops to jump through in co-operation with the NARGC to ensure that the evnt ran smoothly, safely and more importantly that everyone was insured.

It strikes me as odd anyone would have any objection to insurance. I know from personal experience that even for shooting permissions once i produce current/valid insurance that getting permission to shoot on someones lands is far easier.

You need not be a member of any club or range as you can get individual/personal insurance through the likes of the IFA, etc.

Its cheap and gives peace of mind to yourself and those whose land you are shooting on.

Can the club / range not get it's own insurance to cover members of the public who wish to shoot?

Well done but I think the whole beaurocracy and red tape is strangling gun-culture and sport shooting as a whole.

Good for you, but these days with money being tight for everyone it's going to stretch peoples budgets even more paying into an insurance racket (which is what it is).

    Paying into the insurance racket...

How cheap is cheap? Peace of mind? If people are sensible enough they won't need insurance.
it can be argued that someone with top-notch insurance is a liability and likely to relax his attitude to gun safety more than someone with no perceived 'safety blanket'

    See my bold points :)

Driving and shooting are two different ball-parks.

You'll be wanting insurance for going out for a jog next :rolleyes::rolleyes:

You regulatory-types are all the same, wanting to control peoples lives with this and that. Doesn't cut any ice with me man. :)

€65 per year is no load to carry.
If you had an accident you would be destroyed.

Farmers have insurance in case their livestock gets out on the road no matter how good their fencing

Accidents can happen to the safest people out their, having no insurance for a gun is no different than having no insurance for a car and going out on a public road

You mean to tell me that because i have insurance i will go out shooting, waving my gun around, knowing that if i injure an animal, or God forbid a person, that its fine because i have insurance?

If i'm out shooting and i accidentally damage livestock or property by means of a stray shot or something similar, insurance gives me the peace of mind of knowing my house will not be sold to pay for the damages. Also i wouldn't, and i'm sure alot of other lads wouldn't, have shooting permissions without insurance as more and more farmers are seeking it.

Also in relation to clay shoots. If members of the public turn up, and you have no insurance on the event, and someone gets hurt, injured (and i'm only talking about something simple such as fallin, etc) the liability would be between you and the land owner, but most likely on the land owner. How would you tell him/her that you appreciate the grounds for the shooting, but now someone is suing him for injury?

Driving and shooting are two different ball-parks.

They are two dangerous activities with the only difference being you are more heavily scrutinised for firearm ownership than for a driving licnese. insurance for the two is vital.

Your main issue seems to be the Insurance companies themselves. You seem to have a grievence/dislike with the insurance companies, and are directing all your "anger" at them.

You sound just like some of the english fools who lust after big government and intrusion into peoples lives. I for one won't have it and insurance for my vehicle is as much as they'll get ;)

This thread is getting well and truely off topic and devolving into a debate over insurance companies and their policies.

Thread is closed until further notice/review by mod team.
