Always thought it was right? Maybe not?
No, not at all. I have absolutely no idea where you and the OP got the notion that "D" should ever be pronounced as "th."

Funny, I'd consider your "correct" pronunciation to be more American.

Funny, I'd consider you to be wrong. The American pronunciation of 'data' has an 'ay' sound. Otherwise it'd be pronounced 'dah-dah' phonetically.

No, you mean "welcome, I was trying to be smart and saying a certain group can't speak right and failed badly".

No I wouldn't write that, my grammar isn't that bad.

I didn't claim it was perfect, just not as bad as what you had written. You were the one trying to appear knowledgeable and it backfired.

True, but you shouldn't mock someone's grammar if yours isn't perfect.
But sure, we'll say you have good grammar.

To be honest I normally ignore grammar mistakes or rather a lot of them I don't notice (you can tell grammar isn't my strong point). I just thought it was funny that you wrote that after giving tips on pronounciation
But sure, we'll say you have good grammar
Down here its pronounced "shure" :pac: that and the whole "d" instead of "th" thing is slowly working its way back into my pronounciation since I moved back to Tralee almost two years ago :(

Does anyone pronounce datum 'dah-tum' ? No it's day-tum. Ergo the plural is pronounced ' day tah' . 'Dat ahh' is an abomination.

Why would you add an extra 'h' to 'sure'? It's already got an 'sh' sound.

    "That-ah" ????

I've heard of crap pronunciation softening a "TH" to the point that it sounds like a "D", but never heard of the other way around!

Why would you pronounce it 'that-ah'? Like 'that' with a stereotype Italian accent? I can't see how, from the letters involved, you could wangle that (-ah) pronunciation from data...

It's 'daah-tuh'. (Not 'day-tuh', American pronunciation does not belong in Ireland...)

Most Americans I know pronounce it Dah-ta...
