I just took delivery of a few squirrel traps and believe me they love peanut butter. Its frightening how many are around. The tricky bit is dealing with them after catching one.Has anyone got advice on how to despatch them easily as they have a serious attitude and id like to hold onto my fingers for another while. You cant even open the trap without putting your hand into it and in my experience that is NOT a good idea. Thanks in advance.:(:(:(:(:eek::eek:

Have you got an air rifle? I use a .177 for dispatching anything in the traps

The guys on the English hunting forums BBQ them- although, those lads would eat anything!

But I hear they are nice.
Although this doesn't solve your problem; it might be an idea of what to do after you've solved it! :D

    Barbecued Squirrel

    SERVES 4-6

    2 squirrels, cut in pieces
    3/4 cup red wine
    1 cup water
    salt and pepper
    2 bay leaves
    2 large onion sliced
    1 cup baby carrots
    1/2-2 cups barbecue sauce

In a kettle boil, then simmer, the squirrel pieces in the wine and water with the rest of the ingredients except the barbecue sauce.

Cook covered for about an hour. Remove pieces, place in a baking dish, and cover with the sauce. Bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for another 45 minutes.

    Lads,

Before this thread takes off in the wrong direction, as has happened so many times before, any method of despatching caught squirrels should be as humane and as quick as possible. Vermin or not.

No talk of hurls, clubs, clubs with nails, waterboarding or bad jokes as forms of killing please.

Air rifle is ideal, or .22 with rat shot.

If you want to pick him up use a welders leather gloves to stop him biting.

Just got the image of the CIA water boarding a Squirrel looking answers LMAO sorry back to the post :)

Thick gloves, hold legs, head and a quick jerk will do the trick- very quick and humane, wouldn't waste ammo on a Squirrel:rolleyes:

    Yes.
Us hunters are actively encouraged to try and get rid of the grey in favour of our native red.

Greys eat nuts before they are fully developed, reds are unable to do this so reds starve, also Grey's being bigger bully reds to the brink of extinction.

And disease in greys will not kill greys but will kill reds

So Grey Squirrel Kebab anyone :D

Or a thing of destruction, as I will be proving once again at training tonight! God help the full-back when we're playing backs and forwards; I've a dismal performance on sunday to make up for! ;)

    Hello Dupont ,
Good to see another north east man willing to help the cause. The NARGC are giving good subsidies at the moment on these traps.Great traps and well fit ror purpose.Bait them with peanut butter or corn and put them under any broadleaf trees.

Where are you setting them? I was setting them under palm trees for a while and sure enough every evening the peanut butter would be cleaned. It turned out to be ants were having a party .Set your traps under broadleaf trees or covers and if greys are present you'll catch them.
