1rm's on the last two sound like a recipe to tear something off.

I thought some guy's biceps were gonna rip right off the bone today with the way he was curling.

Sorry but the playground called, they want their "swing" back!

I know lots people will not agree but I literally cannot see the point in a One Rep Max. Yeh I know for percentages for different programmes and that you need a percent of your 1rep max. Also maybe its cos I use weights for sports as opposed to just for weight lifting and bodybuilding etc. But what value is it really???

Age: 24 (for 2 more weeks!)
    Weight:72.4kg

    Squat: 80kg
    Deadlift: 130kg

Barebell Row: 'Bare'bell? - sounds like some kinky sh1t:pac:

In the context of your other lifts.. a 190 deadlift makes absolutely no sense!

    ^^^Two thanks for this^^^!:D

I know it makes no sense but it is what it is - if my max was 190kg then more than likely I could do 10 reps (no bounce - fully settled on the ground - hands always on the bar) with 180/185 or so.

Seriously I think I tried 200kg and it was nailed to the floor - did not even move a mm.

To go the other way I'm amazed at the amount of people who can deadlift massive weight yet can't bench or squat to save their lives - this makes no sense to me.

When I was struggling with 190 - a training partner at the time was doing 260kg yet could not bench 125 or squat above 140kg.

I also knew another guy who could squat 320 in competition and deadlift the same but he could not bench 140kg, he could shoulder press around this weight but for whatever reason his bench sucked and IIRC cost him a world title!

FTR I'll take the bench numbers anyday over a 200kg+ deadlift!:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 24,878 ✭✭✭✭arybvtcw0eolkf

No idea as I don't lift serious anymore - haven't in years.

But late last year for a laugh I tried to bench 126kgs, got about 7 good reps out of it.

November I tried a 170kg bench and got 2 reps.

My DL is about 200kgs, and squat is 180kgs for a few reps.

Lifting heavy leaves me knackered these days - getting old (I'm 45 and 125kgs).

There a few sets of numbers like that.
Guv mentioned befroe that he genuinely had no DL.

Normally when I see numbers a bit out of sorts I think they aren't doing full rom on either the bench or squat. Looking at most of people in the gym, its prob right most of the time.

I've fallen off the wagon when it comes to my training and am significantly weaker than I was in 08 and 09. My current 1 RMs are 10-15% worse than my PBs below. I also lost the ability to do a 1 arm pullup but got it back in the last couple of weeks - but think I may be going to lose it again.

    Age: 33
Weight: 72-85 kg, currently 79 kg
    Shoulder Press: 79 kg @ 80 kg
    Bench: 107.5 kg @ 83 kg
Squat: 145 kg @ 85 kg (high bar, ATG)
    Deadlift: 257.5 kg @ 76 kg (currently 230 kg @ 79 kg)
    Barbell Row: Don't do them
Bicep Curl:Not sure, think it was 52 kg.
    Tricep Ext. Don't do them

I can still do 3 x standing evil wheels and close the COC #2.5 with my right hand and COC #2 with my left.

I got a new personal best on the deadlift according to the "weight x rep x 0.0333 + weight" method. I did 132.5kg for 13reps, so my new suggested 1rm is 190kg. But how accurate is that method of 1rm calculation, when the reps are high?

    bench 180kg, squat 250kg..
