MU Barnhall defeated St Marys 35-10 in the u18.5 Premier League Final (Leinster Metro) in Coolmine yeterday. Deserved win for Barnhall but Marys unlucky with injuries losing their outside centre after 5 mins, and both their second rows either side of half-time all through injury. The sides meet again in the Cup final in 2 weeks time.

Munster won easily, not sure of final score, but Munster scored 7 tries. Ulster were quite poor

There's a couple of Ennis lads pushing for Munster places, does anyone have any squad information? Seems very hard to come by

They have put together a 30 player squad for the summer training with another 15 or so that will attend some but not all of the sessions.

This is a combined club/school squad

As I understand it , the 30 players will attend a full residential training over a few weeks , all staying in UL for 4/5 days at a time. The other ~15 will not stay over but will attend on a day to day basis.

There are 3 Ennis players in the initial 30 player squad.

Some of the provinces will play each other as well as academy teams from english/french sides.

Wont be published until the interpro series. Rarely is though Munster usually are best at publishing squad lists before

    Why combined club/school squad?
And only 30 in main residential training?

On the Club/School thing - That's just how they have decided to move forward , they are working the players together as a single squad and removing the club/school divide.

Potentially it's a good idea if it's done fully on merit and not with some pseudo quota thing going on in the background.

As for the Residential training decision - No idea why they are limiting it to the 1st 30 - No sure if space/cost is a possible factor.

Good to see moving forward. would be shame though to lose out on players if cutting down squads to an extent.
If based in Limerick cant see space being a factor but cost could.

Does anyone know if the Munster squads are available? Can't see anything on the website, there's a couple of Ennis lads that were on the team last year that I'm wondering if they are on the squad now.

Very good player , but the 8 and the 10 have better long term potential in my view..

The 8 is very young but already a serious specimen - U18 this year , but not yet 17 years old , will have a 3rd year at this level now that it's gone to U18.5

Is that the Coughlan lad? Serious talent at all sports, won the under 16 with Barefield in both hurling and football I think, he also is a place kicker, was capped against Italy last year

    What do you mean 18.5?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 15,052 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

    What do you mean 18.5?

In Munster, since last season the "U18" competitions are actually Under 18.5.

So for this season anyone born after July 1st 2001 is underage

That means that anyone from 01/07/2001 to 31/12/2003 is in the same Age group.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

under 18 rugby in connacht, Munster, leinster is played with age eligibility date as July 1st not January 1st like the under 13 to 17 grades.
    So it's under 18.5...

    Ulster aren't doing that. It's strictly 03 and 02.

    typical....
Ulster always like to do it different from the rest. Changed to different grades before others did....
