My memory arrived today so now I'm almost ready to go. Downloading unRAID 6 as I type this but might not get a chance to finish installing until tomorrow.

My Gigabit switch also arrived today so now my desktop and server are both wired into that with my new cat6a cables. Originally had cat5e for both connecting directly to the UPC modem.

I don't agree, personally I think it's interesting!

Though to be fair Bargain Alerts is not the right place for it. But other forums on boards would be.

By the way I kept those metal spacers in case I ever want to remove a drive or sell the server on empty. You can't really put the caddies in the server without them. They're way too fragile on their own.

I assumed that was all they were for alright, but I was concerned they were needed for something else as well. I'll throw 'em in a box somewhere so if that's the case.

I'd hold out. They've been having very regular cash back offers. The last one, £80 back I believe was even better than what I got a few months before (£35/€50 back). And theres strong rumours of a G9 coming up so it makes sense.

I'd just keep checking the servers plus site. Theres a very good chance there'll be another cash back offer.

Also, regular price at servers plus is £149 so why buy through Amazon? Just use parcel motel.

What is wrong with HP payback in Ireland? I got Gen7 years ago and it was fully covered by HP payback IN IRELAND. All recent offers are UK only?? I may need 2 or 3 for company so Parcel Motel is no option.

If it's purchased by an official HP reseller in the UK or Ireland then you can claim cashback in Ireland. You may have to email them to get a Euro claim form, but there's no problem.

Can confirm the above. Bought my server from a UK supplier (Servers plus) and used the Irish cashback form.

Received my cheque about two weeks ago.

A new offer just started yesterday: it's Now £55 cashback on a £139 purchase price.

So it's £25 less cashback but on the other hand the server has dropped £10 so its still a very good deal IMO

Serversplus also have no issue shipping to parcel motel and the server *just* fits in the biggest locker

Am I correct in thinking the £139 purchase price is ex VAT, so for any home users the cost is £168 with £55 cash back? Anyone seen the Euro claim form, or what the Euro value cash back is? Thanks.

Go and buy from amazon uk. Their price is £170 (£110 after cashback).
The cheapest I found in Ireland (out of stock unfortunately) is dabs.ie with €230 (€170 after cashback). According to google £110 = €150 (1:1.37 rate)

Good point, I think miniprice ships from France actually so it's probably not eligible.

I don't think so. I haven't tried on the G8 but even my i5 PC struggles with that. And the HP's CPU is a Celeron from early 2013. It doesn't even have quicksync! You'd need one of the latest chips with hardware H.265 decoding built in or a CPU with serious horsepower.

Perhaps you could go for a media player that has hardware decoding for it, so you can stream to it without having to transcode on the server?
