Wow,The last time something like this occurred in Chernobyl The Government in The Irish Republic ordered its people to stay indoors!

So if this nuclear plant was to leak/explode would we be in danger of a nuclear fall?
Doubt it but who knows. I'm lead to believe there are several nuclear reactors in the immediate area. :(

Hawaii up soon. How much time did Sendai have to evacuate?I thought that it was wierd that the chopper was there and ready to record the impact and loads of cars still trying to get out.Suppose it's not as if the helicopter has traffic to go through.

The water level at the nuclear plant is said to be lowering,. Experts are worried, but they say that a Chernobyl type accident wont happen.
Chernobyl wasn't caused by flooding. Control Rods are the important thing to note in what you are thinking of. In the case of Chernobyl those rods were incorrectly withdrawn. A completely human scenario.

To say this is the end of the world is jumping off the deep end, no pun intended. It's a natural disaster much like the ones we've seen for a very long time, alongside all your other tsunamis/earthquakes/hurricanes/firestorms/etc

No, even if they blow, won't affect here.

    I can't imagine they would.

If there is a major explosion you may get radioactive dust over Europe a few days / weeks later though

Chernobyl was an engineering disaster, typical commie stuff when it came to safety protocols. Most modern reactors are incredibly sturdy things (apparently, US ones even simulate being exposed to airstrikes) the fear would be that internal structure of the reactor is not cooling and if there is an aftershock it would be more prone to fracture. It might not fracture but if it continues to heat without cooling it will meltdown. This will still take quite a lot of time so hopefully they can figure out a way to cool it down.

CNN showing live footage from Hawaii, one outlying island hit so far (no footage from there), but no info if any damage caused. Waves estimated at 4 to 6 feet.

generators are being transported in to provide power to get the cooling system running again, hopefully they'll get there in time.

    the story is on NHK
