Ahhh..........:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:...........that takes me back, Unit 15 of the Old Bawn Shopping Center. I wonder what is there now?????

Sex shop and a tattoo parlour last time I was there about a year ago.
Think the snooker room may still be there aswell.
Also there was a place to rent games there I rented lots of C64 games from it with the sole purpose of copying them.....good times!!

I used to go into Dublin to the arcade that was where Champion Sports was, on O'Connell st, next to where KFC/Supermacs is now.
I used to go downstairs to play Stunrunner and Indy and the Temple of Doom.
We used to go to the airport to play the big sitdown Outrun they had as well.
There was a cracking arcade across the Liffey too, still there, over O'Connell Bridge and down to the left along the quay, used to play Galaxy Force II, Blasteroids and Xybots in there.
Then came Dr Quirkys, and all the fears of being raped while trying to play Championship Sprint disappeared, thank the gods....

Is it just me or does the main character in this sound EXACTLY like Duffman?

You're under arrest under suspicion of first degree murder...

    OHHHH YEAH!!!

On a side note.. A game popped into my head a while ago.
It was 3d and had a cowboy in it.None of my other mates remember it and i thought i made it up in my mind.
    I found it.

I remember it was the most expensive game in the arcade.
I also remember it playing like Dragons lair where you just had to press buttons in time, and it was damn hard.
Think you could select different time periods. I remember fighting robots and caveman.

They had spectrum games to rent there aswell. I remember when they were shutting down my Dad bought about 20 or maybe more spectrum games from them for little or nothing. The room was a tiny setup though. I remember they had a few little Spectrum 48k's for sale behind a glass case in the centre of the room. The room use to smell like bubble gum lol. There were some rough feckers hanging around there from time to time so my Dad use to warn me about going to that place. Still the Chase HQ cab was the business though!

Yep you really had to watch your pocket money around those parts alright.;)
They had a good secection of games to reant there including the Speccy games and some Atari 2600 games aswell.
They had a very odd Super off Road Racer cab there aswell with different cars to the original, the Shinobi cab was my favourite though I could almost one credit that game at one time in life..

And did the pager light up when new unsuspecting dorks entered certain Arcades? Sounds like you had it all wrapped up man, you must be bitter at the demise of the arcade scene these days...you've lost it all! :(

Yep it lit up and vibrated not when a dork entered the arcade though as it was cash sensitive and could tell exactly how much change a speccy, spotty, pasty looking geek bag had for procuring.

Seriously though I remember in that specific arcade that you couldn't put your money out to secure a credit in Street Fighter or any other game for that matter because it would be stolen by some little bolíx. Also couldn't put more than one credit in at a time because they would be going round pressing player 2 start button, this led me to many fights and arguements and I think thats what sealed the deal on that arcade as it was just too rough for most people

Hahahaha some trick that is, bastids! But those were proper arcades, you needed to be on your guard at all times.

If I get a few more cabs in my shed, I'll have a job for you so. Remember I'm going for the authentic feel...so I'll need someone present where we can hone our inner ninjas to :D

Yes I can provide that service..
For proper authentic feel I can stand beside you waiting for a particularly difficult boss fight then I'll start blowing smoke into your face while making comments about your lack of skill and how I could beat same boss one handed:pac:

This! This is what kids today don't realize what it was like. Not only did you need to be good at games, you also had to be able to simultaniously be good at games while keeping an eye on your wallet & the local lunatics.

Try beating lap times on a sit down motorbike racing game while some ****s keep pushing the bike the opposite way.

Good times were had in arcades.
I remember when I was supposed to be in mass I would sneak down to the local arcade and play SpaceGun or Final Fight instead:pac:

Always great shutting those ****s up when I would 1 credit Mercs or Ghouls n'Ghosts.

Me and a few of the lads would be in the Dundrum bowl, playing Quazar and hitting the Aliens machine before hand, good days.
Also the arcade between Trinity and the quays had Hellfire, a personal favourite.
My mate in college was a Jackal fan, great game but tough.
And the same arcade in Kevin St had Gravitar and Bubble Bobble, the former was rock hard but beautiful to behold and Bubble Bobble, well I never lasted long but some people, at the expense of their education lasted the whole day, only leaving when they decided to give up, all on one lousy credit!

Respect was earned in arcades, it took skill to become anything more than some shmuck with a pocket full o' 20p's. SF2 skills always boded well for me in this respect, it kind of signified to any unknown gurriers, that I too had a mis-spent youth, & we were brothers in arms from then on :D:pac:

Theres nothing more satisfying than playing street fighter 2 and some lad you dont know comes along thinking he is the cheese, pops in 20p and proceeds to get battered over two rounds than walks off with his head looking at the floor. I dare anyone not to smile as he makes the walk of shame..

Across the Rd was ballycraig and some of them lived around there, recognised a few of them when I started secondary school 2 or 3 years later as being the dick heads that shoved themselves around that arcade.

Im going to pop over there and have a look and see is there anything left of the snooker hall that was beside the arcade. I could be wrong but that snooker hall was still there for many years afterwards.

Was up by it earlier getting cakes in the shop, looks like it's a bridal gown store and ladies hairdressers aswell as the filthy dirty sex shop:D

I take it that there are quite a few people on here from Tallaght and the surrounding area. Did any of you frequent the Bowling alley or the Leisure Center, a.k.a. the snooker hall that felt more like a barn.

I used to hate the bald manager that ran the bowling alley. It seemed like he just stuck his nose up at anyone that was playing video games in that place. It just wasn't enough they were spending cash in the place.

Yep all the time the bowling alley was great. Robin was the managers name IIRC. The Leisure Centre was a dive but they had Double Dragon 2 and S.T.U.N Runner sit down cab so it wasn't all bad. Funnily enough there's a hemp shop where the Leisure Centre used to be, ironic because all the thugs used to smoke thier "hash" in there

Thats right! The carpark was half tarmac, half boreen and was at a 45 degree slope. If you were playing snooker or pool in the place the oul dear behind the counter would give you a cup of tea, you got FA if you were playing the arcade games. It wasn't much of an arcade, it was more of a reception area for a snooker hall. They seemed to get all the arcade games that the bowling alley was finished with.

I remember the managers name now from the the bowling alley, Robin Leatherhead. A bloke once told me that he seen him smile once, but I didn't believe him. "If your not playing games, you have to leave." What a cnut.
