Those are adverts I think, possibly paid for by the Dept, but may be offset against transmission fees. Who knows?

So much for transperency lol - the last ministers decision to axe the rte plus channel was a joke. also was watching a film on rte one on saturday and i missed the first hour of it so i went to rte 1+1 and it was off air until monday - just finished with the news just before the film. rte jr wasnt on at the time since it was a late saturday night movie (Mississippi Burning) but bloody hell they cant even provide a proper +1 service.

Saorview looks a mess to me at the moment - information and decision making...thats my opinion anyways :D

That fool pat rabbitte is saying it will be great having an irish childrens station well we have had 13 hours per day of kids shows on Rte 2 for 12 years or so and its a disgrace all the repeats they show, How often have they repeated sabrina the teenage witch ?
I don't have any problem with RTEjr, except that it isn't on at the weekend yet (but will be in due course). It's a bit disingenuous to suggest RTEjr is just what RTE2 has been doing for years - the split between the content aimed at younger children, which is now on all day, and older children is a definite benefit imo.
By the way, today I heard a mention of RTE News Now on the radio. Is this the first?
Yeah, heard that myself. This Week, iirc, plugging that you can watch it. Progress I guess - they just have to start mentioning the actual radio stations are on saorview!

I wasn't talking about the adverts. i was talking about forward selling of Football matches by presenters.

This was prob down to the fact that they moved the Europa Cup to 3e. The Shamrock Rovers matches just aren't pulling in the viewers and they didn't want viewer complaints to suggest that they were unwilling to show this matches FTA on TV3.

I like Sabrina the Teenage Witch far better then that rubbish Wizards of Waverly Place. Most Children's TV repeat programming for at least 10 years after it was original axed e.g. Saved by the "****ING" Bell.

Also TV3 and TG4 are planning their own Children's TV channels.

The number of channels isn't relevant.

If there was only 1 channel ASO would still work.

Wait if I said this everyone would jump down my throat how come you can say it

You are right of course but then I have been saying this for the past 5 years.

Also postponement is a better description, UTurns are better done before you do anything.

This is what I see happening. East Coast and Board Counties DSO on Oct 25th with the South and West postponed until Spring 2012.

Maybe so. It is still an acknowledgement of their usage of a service that they apparently have not signed up to nor are paying for.

I assume they are paying now, and that the are officially signed up, even if they don't want to be.

Rovers fans might have a different view.

    You eating the Autumnal Mushrooms?

Why would they split the Country in two?

You are only confusing people with these wild assertions with no evidence at all. It's not helpful or serious debate.

    Thanks watty.

They they are oppinions rather then assertions.

For so many posters who have written about dtt and know what has happened before I am surprised that ye all have faith in the 25 oct 2012. If it happens i will be surprised.

Afaik the majority of people in 4 tv land reside in the south and west of the country, hence my oppinion.

    .

THough hasn't the UK been 'split' into several areas for ASO in stages?

Just a year from now is too early and unrealistic for places which will have to use Saorsat in the future - which is an issue for places in the south and west of the country (not Dublin). Nowhere else in Europe will/has there be such expense for viewers with analogue switch off, as people in parts of this country who will have to get Saorsat.

Upgrading, switching over and powering up 1154 sites in one go would've been difficult I guess hence regional split. We're only switching off 170 or so analogue transmitters with DTT already running at full power on almost all sites.

Spain, France and Portugal are 3 countries that come to mind that are using satellite to infill areas not covered by a terrestrial transmitter. Not sure of the cost to viewers to upgrade to satellite in these countries though.

Are they using the same system as SOARSAT? or similar to FreeSat?

Gay Byrne and Enda Gallagher join Derek to talk about Saorview and the digital switch over.

    On now.

Lets be honest though if analogue was not being switched off nobody would bother going with saorview

    Porn ? Wtf ?

You know the phone-in channels. 1550 69 69 69 you know you see it at the end of 3e ;)

Also I saw a Walker PVR for 80 euro. I assume it was a miss print.

Didn't hear the end of that about archiving (btw its technically against the law, why do you think PVRs are being promoted).

She knows more than any of them.

Of course she has a scart lead and RTE

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,177 ✭✭✭sesswhat

First complicated query and they are completely flummoxed. A woman is using an old sky box as a FTA box and confusion breaks out.

These people dont know what free to air sat is

This is a ****ing embarrassment, and instead of helping that woman, Gay Byrne does his usual smarmy bs talk instead and starts talking about how much money she must have. Awful, awful listening. :o

As soon as that lady said she can't get RTE on her sat, the "technical" lad should know immediately what her setup is. He knows nothing. That lady knows more than both of them put together.
