How does a powerplay effect the scores/game?

It makes it easier to score if you are a good batsman, but unfortunately Trent was our last good batsman.

The one that got away........... and probably the only game we can realistically aim to win. Pity.

Well... maybe the Netherlands for the wodden spoon

That was a game we should of won. The lads will be very disappointed.

It brings about fielding restrictions which allows the batting team to utilize the wide spaces created by this for some quick run boost. But doesn't always work out that way as the wickets tend to tumble as well.

I dont remember the full details but during the powerplay, Only a very limited number of fielders (3, i think) are allowed outside the main circle.

Basically, what it does is give the batsmen an oppurtunity to take risky shots (due to the lack of fiielders). Usually a set batsmen goes wild during the powerplays.

Maybe somebody else can explain better.

batting powerplays require all but three fielders to be inside the circle.

Well, the misery is over.. A thrilling game to follow though and Ireland were not disgraced by any means!

Looking forward to the match on Sunday now. India take on England. Should be a good one.

Hopefully England will be crying at the end of the match.

Very disappointing result. How many times have we set ourselves up but not completed the victory?

All the same, great effort from the lads and a lot of positives to take but a victory today would have meant a huge amount to Irish cricket and it's a pity they couldn't take advantage of their chances :(

It was a disgrace not to win the game from that position tbf.

we really should have won though, when it comes to the next world cup the win here today would have made it impossible for the ICC to ignore us, and in that context the performance today is pretty much useless :(

Absolutely gutted after that. The game was ours to win. I think losing Botha was the crucial moment. He had been playing steadily, and he just needed to stay in. What a missed opportunity.

No, i didnt follow the world cup. Well if he is as good as u say he is then we shouldnt be worrying about the 32 runs we are behind.

George Dockrell is a nice Gonzaga boy and should go far but he's known as a bowler rather than a batsman. I didn't think that he showed any nerves today in the cauldron atmosphere so that bodes well for the future. :)

anybody know much about this docrell guy.

A quick glimpse at cricinfo reveals that he is new to the game.
    http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc_cricket_worldcup2011/content/player/348034.html

Has anyone ever seen him actually play before? Is he any good (street cricket wise)?

Seen him, umpired him, talked to him. A top lad and a very good cricketer.

Cricinfo has already ignored us, a quick look at the points table has no mention of Ireland anywhere

Edit: Ireland are showing up in the points table now, so its probably because Ireland hadn't completed any games when the table was last updated..

Good performance in the field from Bangladesh, really pleased for them after how badly their batsmen (by far their strongest asset) played.

Don't think England have anything to fear from Ireland. Swann and Yardy will be looking forward to that one.

After their near escape against Netherlands (and Canada in their warm up game), a match against Ireland is no gimme, given the Irish are always likely to be charged up for a meeting with their neighbour across the sea!

I'll bet the ICC are laughing their cocks off after that.

I know it's silly to say but what a difference it would have made to have Morgan coming in today,

a team of Porterfield, Stirling, Joyce, N'Ob, Morgan, Marshall, Cusack, K'Ob, Botha/Mooney/Johnston, Dockrell, Rankin would have been something else,

at least Marshall will be able to play after the World Cup :)...
