I plan on starting this in february. Tried applying on PAC and it says the deadline has passed for both DC815 and DC814, where I should be able to apply until January 2012. Any ideas?

Just for clarification because I am confused, for the masters there are 90 credits in total, 30 credits for the thesis which leaves 60 credits.

You must pick all level 9 modules worth 7.5 credits each. Which is 4 modules per semester, 8 modules total.

Students can pick level 8 modules if they are unsure at the chosen module (eg. basic fea for advanced fea next semester) but don't count toward the masters.

For example I can't pick 2 level 8 modules and 2 level 9 modules for one semester.

You have to complete 60 level 9 credits, which includes the project. So you can do 4 level 8 modules as part of the MSc is my understanding of things.

so 8 level 9 modules to pick, and level 8 modules are optional which don't count towards masters?

heid to the best of my knowledge for the Masters course you have to do 8 taught modules and the Masters project. You can do a max of four Level 8 taught modules. You may want to check this out with DCU.

    I did this course last year, you have to do a minimum four level 9 modules as far as I know and you can't do more than three level 8 modules in one semester;
ie; semester 1 I picked two level 8 and two level 9 and the same for semester 2.

How much of the fees are we supposed to have paid at this stage? I paid the 500, then it asked for 1350, then 540, then 216, then 86.40, now 34.56. Odd amounts.

    €500 deposit and then €2250.

    From my registration page:
    Amount Now Due - €13.824

    What the hell?

I've a question for any of you doing FEA this semester.

I'm trying to go through those tutorials put on Moodle, but in Ansys I only have about 5 element types to chose from and they all seem to be 3D. To launch Ansys I'm just using Mechanical APDL from the start menu, for the first tutorial I can get my truss formed no bother, but then I just don't have the option of picking the 2D spar element. Was there anything shown in the tutorial of how to do this? Thanks.

Is this the same Q I answered from the Engineering forum or is there something different?

Sorry to bump this guys, but any info on this would be appreciated.

I've applied for this course on pac, full time beginning in February, and was just concerned about the structure of the course when you start in Feb. Do you have to register again in September? Also would I be carrying out the Msc project during summer 2011 or at a later date?
And finally are the fees the same considering its full time but split over 2 college years?

Just confused as theres nothing on the dcu website other than stating entry for this course is in September and February.

If anyone has any answers to the above it would be great, thanks.

If you start in Feb you then would start your thesis in the summer for handup in January.

You would only pay fees for one year if you do the course full time.

You'd have to register for modules you would be doing for the following semester in September.

Sorry to bump this again, lectures start Monday and I've searched everywhere for my timetable. I get the 'no page present' message from the link on my portal page, when I copy my link into Google calender its empty. I've searched for individual module timetables and it says timetables arnt available for those modules.

When i click the 'let us know' link on the portal it just reloads the page!

    My modules are
    Mm524 advanced fea
    Mm532 comp thermo fluid dynamics
    Mm555 advanced manufacturing processes
    Mm571 professional and personal development

Anyone any info on days/times for these?

Might as well ask - I'm part time and can only make it into DCU on weekends. If there's anyone doing Advanced FEA (MM524) in a similar situation, it could be advantageous to group up for the project, assuming it can be done in groups like the 4th year FEA project. Less work for all involved!

Its an individual assignment for MM524.

I am not from an engineering background, but I would be interested in doing the access course in order to get into this program in C.A.M.M.E. I am just wondering what employment would be like for me with this qualification and what jobs I could be able to do in industry. The course states that I could major in Biomedical or energy systems engineering and I am wondering if this major would be enough to take on the post of an energy systems or biomedical engineer.
