Cool. I'm doing it by distance though, guess I'll be taking a few days off work.

As did I. I asked the lecturers to unlock the moodle course for me. Then I look through to see if I liked it. Try that instead of using your days. You will need them later for exams/coursework etc

For the MSC it appears no option as you must have all level 9 courses and to make up the 60 credits you need to pick all the level 9 courses. No option on this. This looks like it to me anyways. Anyone else notice this?

Also whats the story with the Semester 1 Project modules (showing completion in January)? Worth 30 credits. Presume not needed anyways.

I rang the registration office to get them to put me into FEA (not the advanced one).

In semester 1 I'm just doing that research skills thing and FEA. Second semester is CFD and advanced FEA.

The basic FEA is only level 8 though. It says you need all level 9 modules to get the MSc. Also that only makes up 30 credits. How you making the rest up

Hmm, nuts, where does it say this? There's still time to change modules so I guess I'll have to sort that out. Maybe ask for access to the FEA notes or something.

    http://www.dcu.ie/prospective/deginfo.php?classname=CAMG

Check the "structure" section in the above page.

I think basically i have to pick four subjects per semester then and will be fine. Anyways its not set in stone and can be changed so no worries i guess. Main thing is to just get registered now. They told me on phone registration has been extended till Monday. Considering i only got the info to log in to register on Wednesday thats fair enough. Dont get a lot of time to choose.

The advanced FEA and CFD will be good. Worried the CFD will be too advanced for me but have a few mates that done masters on it and they will help me learn it if needed.

Also registration only looking for €1350 from me and not full fees.

Edit: it does say 60 credits need to be at level 9. I guess maybe 30 credits from thesis are at level 9 and ensure half the remaining modules are at level 9. What you think danthefan?

I was just about to say surely the project is level 9?

It's something I'll get an answer on, when I talked to Dr. Young I said I'd need to do the FEA course because I don't have massive experience there and he didn't raise any issue with that. I will double check anyway, thanks for pointint it out.

Let me know what he says will you?

Its no problem changing at registration so have choosen 60 credits optional modules, 30 each semester.

30 credits of optionals are at level 9, rest at level 8. Will change later if i need to.

I could be wrong but I thought you could only do a maximum of 4 Level 8 modules. You don't have to do all level 9 modules. As dan says if anything it's encouraged to do the level 8 FEA before the level 9 Advanced FEA.

that's what am thinking now bit wasn't clear. have picked 30 credits at level 8, 30 at level 9 and the thesis makes the rest. 4 subjects in each semester which Ian ok. should be alright. May change in the first week so see how it goes.

Get any details after registration? I completed registration last week. Picked 4 modules ( not sure if 4 is correct regards to full-time) fea, advanced fea, heat transfer & fluid mechanics and cfd. I picked heat transfer & fluid mechanics maybe as a prerequisite to cfd maybe to change later.

Timetables are on the portal on DCU wesbite. Just login with the info you used to register online.

I am going to head to orientation. It looks just like a few seminars being run and tables setup you can have a look around at and you get some welcome pack.

I would plan on going and getting an overview. I would also try go to the first class of each and get a feel for what each is like.

I would be there for the first 30 mins and then leave. Paul young will explain the options, and whole break down of the masters. Just IMO it is useful.

Paul is going to be in the Wednesday morning module that is the only compulsory module (MM533) for the first 30 mins. He will be there as everyone has to be there.

I retract my previous statement. It used to always be the first module, first day.
