    World famous author, Gary Scheiner, who wrote “Think Like A Pancreas” is the keynote speaker at Thriveabetes, a type 1 diabetes conference which takes place on Saturday, 1st October 2016 in Naas, Co. Kildare.

    Gary is a Certified Diabetes Educator, Clinical Director of Integrated Diabetes Services in Pennsylvania, and person with type 1 diabetes for over 30 years.

    “Think Like a Pancreas” covers essentially anything and everything you'd need to know about living with diabetes — if you use insulin such as the essentials on understanding why blood sugar fluctuates, and then moves right into the foundation of any good insulin program.

    Gary's professional practice, Integrated Diabetes Services, is located in the Philadelphia area. But don't think that just because you live in another state, it would be impossible to work with Gary as your diabetes educator! Gary runs a remote consulting program and works with patients all over the world.

    “Thriveabetes” is a one day conference for people living with type 1 diabetes, taking place on Saturday, October 1st 2016 in The Killashee House Hotel, Naas, Co. Kildare. This Type 1 Diabetes conference focuses on the psychological impact of living with a lifelong, chronic illness. It aims to provide “Inspiration, Motivation and Information” to people living with type 1 diabetes, to both parents of children with diabetes and adults living with and to children with type 1 diabetes.

    “It’s the second Thriveabetes event. In 2015, we had 190 delegates, this year, we have developed a programme for children and teens with diabetes, and we are expecting 300 delegates.” says Gráinne Flynn, co-founder and event organiser, who has been living with diabetes herself for 23 years. The conference is being organised completely by volunteers from the diabetes community, and with the support of the national charity for diabetes; Diabetes Ireland.

    Additional speakers are internationally and nationally renowned in the diabetes community, include;
    - Joe Solowiejczyk, Certified Diabetes Educator, Clinical Family and Adult Therapist and Person with type 1 diabetes for over 50 years.
    - Gavin Griffiths, The DiAthlete, Ultramarathon runner, International Diabetes Federation Young Leader and person with type 1 diabetes.
    - Anna Clarke, Health Promotion and Research Manager at Diabetes Ireland
    - Penny Robinson, Mum of a teenager with type 1 diabetes and parent representative on the Families with Diabetes Network in the UK.

    Registration for the conference will cost €35 per adult, €60 for two adult tickets. Children are €15 each or a Family Ticket for €100. Advance registration is required. Register for Thriveabetes through the Thriveabetes website; Thriveabetes.ie

    Clare Adults with Type 1 diabetes; meet on Tuesday 21st June at 8pm in The Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis. This meeting is an informal group of adults with type 1 diabetes and parents of children with diabetes.     Galway Strength in Numbers conference & Hackathon; for young adults with type 1 diabetes on Thursday 23rd June from 10am - 4pm. Bringing stakeholders in young adult type 1 diabetes management together to share and develop key strategies for improving the health of this group.
    This innovative, multidisciplinary one-day conference will be of interest to health services providers, researchers, young adults with type 1 diabetes (a couple of older adults-I've signed up for this one;-D and policy-makers. ​ Register through this link.

    Thriveabetes is a type 1 diabetes conference, supported by Diabetes Ireland, taking place on Saturday 1st October in Naas, Co. Kildare. There are speakers from all over the world as well as from home. The schedule has been published on their website this morning.

    It’s the second Thriveabetes to take place. In 2015, 190 people attended from all over Ireland. This year, they have developed a programme for children over 5 years and teens with diabetes, and are expecting 240 delegates.

    The speakers come from the US, UK and Ireland, including the world renowned authors, Gary Scheiner, who wrote “Think Like A Pancreas” and Joe Solowiejczyk, author of “The Type 1 Diabetes Guide to the Universe”, both gentlemen and healthcare professionals have lived with type 1 diabetes for over 30 and 50 years respectively.

    As well as;
    • Anna Clarke, Ireland, Head of Research & Advocacy, Diabetes Ireland
    • Gavin Griffiths, UK, The DiAthlete, Ultramarathon runner, International Diabetes Federation Young Leader and person with type 1 diabetes.
    • Dr. Kevin Moore, Ireland, consultant endocrinologist in Tallaght Hospital and Naas General Hospital. Dr. Moore has worked tirelessly throughout his career to improve the lives of patients with diabetes.
    • Penny Robinson, UK, Mum of a teenager with type 1 diabetes and parent representative on the Families with Diabetes Network in the UK.
