    Hey guys,

I have convinced myself i need a surround sound headset in the coming months to enhance my overall gaming experience.

I am stuck between a few headsets and would appreciate some feedback if any of ye fine chaps currently have either

    Tritton Ax Pro

    Earforce x21

    Astro a40

I could get an Astro Amp and get a separate set of surround headphones also, this could be an option.

There's a new turtle beach headset coming out that does 7.1 wireless surround for both 360 and PS3. There's also a wireless version of the astro mixamp. Both really expensive though.

The PX21 is stereo not surround, but meant to be very good by all accounts.

Creative are also coming out with a wireless set that do PS3, Xbox 360 and PC/Mac. No word on release date for Europe tho.

I would consider the Tritton AX720 too. Ive had mine for a year & a half & had no problem with them. I dont have any other headset to compair the sound, but I did read lots of reviews & comparisons on them, & overall they were positive. The directional sound is very good too.

Ya the 720's are lovely aswell and prob best bang for the buck with all things considered, Could get one for 100e from ebay if i keep a good eye over the next while, then when i can afford an upgrade i think i'll go the Astro Mixamp route with a top set of Phones.

Creative Soundblasters look the business in fairness. looking forward to a review in April when it comes out.

Gone off the X21's as they are stereo and one would have to plug them in to a tv.(or seperate amp in my case as i use a projector)

A proper amp and surround sound speakers is alot better than any headphones.

True but not everyone has the space for that set up. I bought sony's sound bar for the PS3. Delivered from amazon this morning.PS3 sound bar It's only a 2.1 set up and people who are serious about sound will probably pour scorn on it :D, but it's a VAST improvement over my tv's sound.

Decided to go for the Tritton Ax Pros in Gamestop. they are 180e and have over 100e built up in credit so shouldn't cost too much.

Looking forward to killing those guys to my '5oclock' in BC2:p

Lads i know this a playstation thread but i have the wireless turtle beach x41 for xbox which the px5's look very similar too. And they are not very good at all, they sometimes echo and also there is a constant hissing sound coming from them. I know these are for two different console but thought it might be help.

Well the px5's work with xbox also so could have same issue. I will wait for reviews before buying them definitely.

Holy fcuk. Desperately want them. I was gonna go for the Tritton Pro ax Pro but I think for an extra €50 or €60 I think these could be well worth it.

    They look nice too.

I changed my ear force 41's for the Tritons last week. As was posted above the 41's where brutal for echo, popping and hissing noises. I should have stuck to my first thought that i was going to have issues with them as they are wireless. I would be wary of the new Turtle beach set if they haven't addressed the problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,627 ✭✭✭The Freeman

Gamestop have stopped stocking Turtlebeach headsets due to about 50% coming back due to frailty.
Tritton headsets are being stocked with the group with a 5 year warranty on each headset purchased.
worth taking this info in to consideration when buying a product for almost or atleast 200e imo.

I want a pair of 5.1 headphones for bluray. Where in town (Dublin) can you buy these? I don't want or need a microphone thingy with them.

I won't be spending anything like 200Euro. Can I get 5.1 headphones for under a ton? How do you connect them to the PS3? Do you use the optical connection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭Battleflag

I bought the Turtle Beach DPX21 just before Black Ops came out and now I can't imagine gaming without them. It just makes gaming even better. They are also handy for watching a late night movie if you don't want to disturb anyone.
They're also very comfortable, I've forgotten they are on my head a few times

@ButchCassidy - For the Turtle Beach's you plug them into the USB and optical connection at the back

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭Butch Cassidy

Is there headphones you can get that plug in to the controller? Don't need a micrphone with it ...

Not that I'm aware of anyway.

As far as I know - yes.

I haven't ordered from them but I went through the order sequence to see the delivery price and it had Ireland as an option. Think it costs £9 to ship to Ireland.

I got them yesterday from Amazon.com worked out cheap enough. They charged $18 for shipping which I think may have been a mistake as tehy tried to charge me 25 for shipping a game the other day. Either way they arrived within two days and they are frickin' fantastic. I love them! They're USB powered so you don' have to worry about plug adapters or anything.

I was contemplating buying from there, but I thought I'd get charged for customs. I'm guessing you didnt?

Nope I don't think so anyway. Amazon take a deposit for customs charges, but I think I got away with it! The DHL guy didn't mention it or anything anyway. I ordered a set of Rock Band cymbals from tehm a few weeks back too and didn't get caught with customs.

I'd recommend ordering from 'em anyway. I think the customs deposit was 40 dollars or something so it'll at worst probably work out a the same it'd cost you to get from the UK. Ordered them Monday night, they shippped late Tuesday night and arrived Thursday morning.

Think it's cost me around 200 euro in the end.

Awesome. Really didn't wanna wait until May.

I don't suppose it came with an optical cable?

I was talking to the delivery guy there apparently I'll have to pay €30 in customs. I was asleep when he called so I'll have to wait until tomorrow. :( to find out for definite.

But even if I do need to pay for customs, it'll end up the same price if I bought them from the uk, even slightly cheaper. So still worth it.

Thanks for the reply Aussie, ya reply again tomorrow to make sure its 30 euro

Id be happy enough to pay the 30 euro for customs tbh

When you're making your own squad the size is four I think. But does Battlefield add people with the same clan tags to the same team? think I heard that somewhere. If so we could use the BIE tag again.

Depending on what numbers we have maybe we could split ourselves in squads. And maybe have higher ranked players as the pple who organise the squads before the game.

But if we have over 12 I's say it'd easier to set up a private match.

According to the invoice I have it'll cost €223 in total including the customs charge. Which isn't half bad considering that other site is charging £199.

Right to let you guys i know. I got my headphones delivered today. Had to pay the courier €38.82 for customs. However I had already paid this to amazon as a deposit so I emailed amazon and they said I'd get a refund.

So total price is €223. Which is just as cheap as they'll be sold here :)

How does the tritton take the 3.5mm inputs and the Optical/Digital Input, is it one or the other at a time or can i have both connected with some option to change between them.

    was it worth it?

Yeah i'd be very interested in hearing feedback on these. I want surround sound but living in a flat I'm not sure I'd make the most of a decent set-up. These seems like a great alternative if they're any good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,596 ✭✭✭AIR-AUSSIE

I'm probably not the best to get a review off as I haven't had surround sound earphones before, so I've nothing to compare to.

I'm very happy with them work very well and sound is great. I've had them for about a month and a half now I think.

I use them mainly for Battlefield, FIFA, Black ops. Great surround sound in battlefield many times I've heard someone sneaking up behind me and I have turned around in time to kill them before they get my tags. Crowd noises are a lot clearer in FIFA too so you get a more immersive atmosphere. Good Bluetooth range too. The different sound setups are cool too but I haven't really gotten use to them yet.

Easy to connect to other devices too - itouch, laptop, HTC phone.

Can go through batteries fairly fast though so I'd buy some rechargable ones if you get it. And takes a while to get use to pressing all the buttons on the ears of the headphones.

I'd definitely recommend though if you want to go the wireless route.
