Right, so I figure most of you guys are a bit like me when it comes to choosing your classes. My favourites change on a weekly basis.

Yes, there are guns and setups that I keep coming back to, but I am also continuously surprised when I try out different things (M16 with acog on Array for example). I may not get the best scores I can get, but it makes the game much more enjoyable to try things out.

So, I thought I'd make a thread to share what new discoveries I've made. I'm hoping that everyone will get involved in it and we can all get ideas from each other.

Ya never know.... might pick up some valuable play-style tips along the way too.

    So, Ill start......

I've used this gun before and didn't find it great, but it's all about combinations and playing to it's strength. Last week was the first time I played with the below setup and I had so much fun getting huge multi kills it's become one of my firm favourites..... for now at least :pac:

    Game Type: Domination
    Play Style: Support/Defence

    Primary Weapon: M60
    Attachments: Grip & Extended Mag
Secondary: Strela 3 / Dual pythons (depends on first perk choice)

    Lethal: Frag
    Tactical: Nova Gas
    Equipment: Motion Sensor

Perk1: Scavenger Pro (occasionally Flak Jacket Pro)
    Perk2: Warlord Pro
    Perk3: Tactical Mask Pro

This setup is a beast. 200 bullets in a clip means you can take out an entire team without stopping for breadth.

Scavenger Pro means I have an unending supply of said bullets, along with constantly having frags and nova gas to fire at the flags I'm defending.

Warlord Pro allows me to have the grip and extended mags (which are a must) as well as extra frags/nova

Tactical Mask Pro is one of the most underrated perks in the game. It also suits this class much better than any other 3rd tier perk.
Not only am I immune to the nova gas that I'm chucking all over the place, but the enemy team lobbing flashes/concussions to slow me down fail miserably.

The only downside to the above is that I don't have Flak Jacket Pro, so am a bit prone to getting blown up. If I'm coming up against that a lot I'll switch to Flak Jacket. Kind of depends on the map.

m60 extended mags is my go to fun gun. if you have care package and get ammo as a drop, take it, it gives you 300 bullets for the reload, thats 500 rounds in one gun.

beastly isnt the word. many a time I've just aimed at a door thats a high traffic area and racked up quad kills.

Cool idea. Unfortunately I find something I like and just refuse to change. I know it's stupid but that's the way I am and can't afford therapy.

AK47 Versatile, good at range and seems to have voodoo like multi kill abilities
Dual Mags extra bullets and quick reload every other time

Markov (don't know why just love it)
    Extended mags

Hardline pro overall find this the most useful - it's a crutch for the average player
SOH Pro - possibly overkill with Dual Mags but I miss it like mad when I don't have it equipped
Marathon Pro - I do realise there are better perks but this is like my blanky

Lethal - Frag - bouncy bouncy
Tactical - Concussion - less chance of harming myself
Equipment - claymore - for the easy kill

    Game type
    FFA/TDM

    Play style
Sober - tactical defence aka camping
    Drunk - Headless chicken

    Killsteaks
    RCA car ...sorry
    Care Pack
    Attack Heli

I never run care packages unless I have hardline pro on, and I rarely use that any more.
But thats the reason I mostly run Scavenger with it. Starts you with 300 bullets instead of 200, and constantly replenishes them.

lol, ya, you can have epic multi kills like that all right!

And so you should be :p

But good idea to throw in Killstreaks too. Although they're not class dependant.... more depend on gametype for me.

But for Domination I normally run with:
    Spy Plane
    Counter Spy Plane
    Nalpalm

The odd day (when I'm not all about the objective) I play for the high killstreaks and run:
    Spy Plane
    Chopper Gunner
    Dogs

    Game Type: All

    Primary Weapon: Famas
    Attachments: Dual Mags
    Secondary: Strela 3 / python

    Lethal: Semtex
    Tactical: Concussion
    Equipment: Claymore

    Perk1: Hardline Pro
    Perk2: SoH Pro
    Perk3: Hacker Pro

Obvious class for most people but imo the best class on Black Ops for All around. Famas has the least amount of recoil for me and a fast fire rate.

    Killstreaks:

    2: Spy plane
    3: Counter Spy plane
    7: Blackbird

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

    TDM:

    Ak-47 w/ suppressor
    Dual wield Colt Pythons

    Willy Pete
    Semtex
    Claymore

    Hardline
    SOH Pro (essential!)
    Ninja

    Domination/Demolition

    Commando w/ red dot
    Dual wield Pythons again

    Nova Gas
    Frag
    Motion Sensor

    Flack Jacket
    Soh Pro
    Tactical Mask.

both classes for for either mode really, Tactical Mask is a much better perk than I expected. and flack jacket is essentialfor Domination on those tricky B flags on the new maps (looking at you Kowloon! an absolute bitch of a flag to hold or retake, you PS3 owners who havent played the map pack yet are going to hate that flag with a passion as every xbox owner now does :pac: )

I use 6 or 7 slots, depending on whether I am using a runner class, a defending class etc, but mainly, this week (and every other)

    Primary Weapon: Galil
Attachments: Red dot, Dual Mags (compensates for lack of SOH)
    Secondary: Strela 3

    Lethal: Semtex x2
    Tactical: Nova Gas
    Equipment: Claymore

    Perk1: Hardline Pro
    Perk2: Warlord Pro
    Perk3: Hacker (Pro awaited)

Galil is a wicked weapon, the replacement for the Scar-H for me.

    Killstreaks:

    2: Spy plane
    3: Counter Spy plane
6: Helamachopter (apart from when playing with Boardsies - my feeble heli takes up valuable airspace - then I'd run with either a care package or blackbird ;))

P.S. Does anyone use Napalm to good effect?

    Krudler,
Seriously, go out of your way to get the Tac Mask Pro... it's surprisingly useful.

Theres the obvious benefit of concussions and flashes not effecting you as much, but there's the hidden bonus of getting a big advantage on campers!!!

Throw your flash / concussion into a room and the ghost/ak74u silenced camper shows up on your map for pinpoint knowledge of which corner he's hiding in. Waltz in and shoot the ****e out of him :p

Depends on what you mean by good effect I guess. Decent number of kills, or blocking off opposing teams well to help your team get objectives?

Is that what it does? sweet gonna get me that. I dunno how many times I've flashed myself by running into a room too quickly

or accidentally bouncing a stun grenade off a lamppost due to horrendous aiming

Ya, I wouldn't use it in FFA or TDM. It's best used for objective games.

mortars are ok if you have someone trapped at a flag on Dom, but they take too long to come onto the map so everyones legged it indoors at that stage. Rolling Thunder on the other hand can be a beast of a streak on domination, got 2 multikills last night with it.

I have been using the same four classes throughout Black Ops and this week I thought I would mix it up a bit. I intend to get a greater understanding of all the weapons in the game so that if given the scenario, I could pick up any gun off the ground and not be at a disadvantage.

This week it is the Škorpion vz. 61.
    Skorpion w/ Rapid Fire
    Crossbow

    Flash / Nades / Claymore(/Jammer)

    Scav Pro
    SoH Pro
    Tac Mask Pro

I am going to say this. The Skorpion is a beast.
It has difficulties killing more than two people at a time due to it's low clip of 20 which is eaten up with the rapid fire. But that does not matter if you play in a duck and cover style as you will win every one on one situation. The Skorpion deals 50 damage per bullet up close without multipliers, ensure a two shot kill. The non-existent recoil means that you can still pick people off from a distance with a few seconds. It reminds me of the vector from MW2.
The crossbow is there for anyone who wants to counter you with cover, hit the ground or wall near them and they will be no longer a problem.

Anyone who is getting bored with the game and wants to mix things up, this is the gun for you.

*edit* I forgot to add. The hip fire on this gun without dual wielding is unreal and is one of the best, even when moving. Making it hard to beat in CQB, even without the need for steady aim.

A video for your education :P

I've never used the Scorpion, will give it a blast some time over the weekend.

My long time domination class has been getting useage in other game modes and has managed to do pretty well. It's pretty similar to Krudler's.

    Flak Jacket Pro
    Sleight Of Hand Pro
    Tactical Mask Pro
Ak47 with dual mags, claymore, woolly pete & frag grenades.
My killstreaks are pretty much set in stone as I always run spy, counterspy & blackbird. Counterspy is very useful for people who don't run silenced guns. My secondary is a strella.

I always run towards B at the start of any Dom game and either throw the smoke past B so the enemies approach blind and I get the advantage or if I need to capture a point a throw it on it. I've never seen anyone use infra red sights.

    • Flak Jacket is essential for taking B and pro is brilliant when the enemy calls in Napalm, as I can stay in close to the fire getting defensive or offensive kills. If people are noobtubing & camping with claymores I tend to use this setup.
    • Sleight of hand & dual mags means I can keep suppressive fire down and hold off greater numbers. One game in jungle recently I stayed on the bridge looking at C getting offensive kills and eventually calling in a blackbird. It's also benefical when I run out of ammo and have to pick up another gun.
    • Tactical Mask lessens the effects of concussions/flashes and negates nova so I can stay on a point without worrying about them too much. With flak jacket, I'm practically immune to everything but a hail of grenades or a direct hit from a secondary launcher or noobtube.
Grenades are better than semtex as you can cook them giving opponents less time to react to them.
Claymores are handy with an unsilenced gun as enemies who try sneak up on you get a surprise.
The ak47 feels very strong in most situations (long shots are tricky) and with the super fast reloads & plentiful ammo I don't worry too much about accuracy, only dropping enemies. I often run out of ammo and have to pick up dropped guns, where SoH helps massively.

I haven't really given many of the SMGs much of a go to be honest. I had the 74u on my rushing class at the start, but have become fond of the Famas/silencer these days.

Might spend some time trying out different ones over the weekend.

Do ye guys use Lightweight on your rushing classes?

not really I prefer to have hardline on, you move pretty quickly with the SMGs anyway so its not much of a tradeoff, although lightweight on Nuketown is a laugh, can get to the nade spots in seconds for nice double and triple semtext kills.

I play nearly the same class all the time.

    Depending on gametype:

Search - AK74u Silenced (NOOB weapon)
    Python speed reloader
    Frag
    Concussion
    Motion sensor

    Flack Jacket
    Slight of hand
    Marathon

    Killstreaks 3,4,5

    Sabotage

    Famas Silenced
    Python Speed reloader

    Frag
    Willy Pete
    Tac insertion

    Flack Jacket
    Slight of hand
    Marathon

    Killstreaks 3,5,8

    All other gametypes

    Famas Dual mag
    Python Speed reloader

    Frag
    Concussion
    Claymore (For my Camping!!!)

    Flack jacket
    Slight of hand
Marathon/Last stand (If i'm feeling cheap)

Last stand is usually followed by me saying ''Save me, Save me''

    Killstreaks 5,9,11

Past few weeks i've been using pretty much every **** gun in the game.... and there is a lot of them. I seriously dont see how they think that the guns like the pm63 or the mac10 are balanced... they're aboslutely horrible. The shotguns are a joke for primary weapons, this is the reason why people are so uptight about the 74u and famas because half the guns in the game are useless. The stakeout would have been decent if it had more attachments... wheres the extended mags ??? 4 bullets ??? And the SMGS with 20 bullets.... seriously ? Even if they had 50 they would still be worse than the 74u and MP5K. You can dualwield them but it takes 2 seconds to use up the bullets and an age to reload unless using slight of hand... in which case you may as well be playing blindfolded because you have no chance of killing anything without steady aim !!!

I understand that they were going for realism with the shotguns and therefore no attachments... but they should have at least made them as good as the spas in MW2(Which was only considered overpowered because it was a secondary imo).

Have you tried MPL rapidfire and extended mags? Eats at close range.
Although you have to run warlord.

I haven't had a chance to try out some of the SMGs yet. My connection is too bad (8mb line getting less than dial up speeds ) to try and run and gun like that.

Instead I decided to do exactly what ye all despise

Since I can rarely win a normal one v one due to lag, I decided to run the ever popular Ghost Pro + Silencer and wreak havoc in the opposing spawn.

So, this week I will mostly be running:

    Game Type: Domination
    Play Style: Support/Defence

    Primary Weapon: Famas
    Attachments: Dual Mag + Silencer
    Secondary: Dual Pythons

    Lethal: Frag
    Tactical: Concussion
    Equipment: Claymore

    Perk1: Ghost Pro
    Perk2: Warlord Pro
    Perk3: Ninja

Yes, it's cheap.... but boy oh boy is it hella fun :D:D

    Playing MW2, heres my class of the moment;
    MP5K silenced,
    Spas 12 extended mags/grip,
    Flashbangs,
    Claymore,

Perks: Marathon Pro, Stopping Power Pro, Steady Aim Pro
    Killstreaks: UAV,Counter UAV and Predator

I use spas as primary, this is such a beast class. Seriously try it!

Was using this in free for all (which I very rarely play) in nuketown and summit/firing range games of dom.

Spectre & extended mags. I outshoot and outlast most other opponents plus 45 rounds in a fast firing smg is lethal for killing small to large groups up close. Rapid fire requires too many reloads. Plus I found i'd overkill an individual and leave the person(s) behind wounded & alive whilst I reloaded or changed gun.
Cz75 & extended mags. With a full clip and surprise I can generally kill 3+ from the spectre and 2 with the cz75. Pythons aren't great for killing large groups but are best suited to individuals.

Lightweight Pro. Need speed to close the distance to favour me. Plus I tend to get to enemies before teammates and pick up more kills.
Steady Aim Pro. Accurate hipfiring plus faster shooting from sprinting. When I used rapid fire I used sleight of hand, but I'd often find enemies using second chance dropping s**** secondaries not good primaries. I changed back to get the benefit of the faster knive recovery.
Marathon Pro. You can move like the wind and get to B dom before enemies and often surprise a large group coming from their spawn.

Semtex - generally don't use semtex but since I'll be moving fast, I would prefer not running around with a cooking grenade but a gun out.
Concussion for tdm or willy pete for dom or to give me a chance at flanking. You can see better into the cloud of smoke than out of it.
Jammer- annoys the hell out of people (and parties) and stops claymores from getting me or teammates.

I tend to stay around B/C dom as these are generally closer in the smaller maps so I play to my strengths.

Another one I was using is this mad class for big open maps and for games of dom where the spectre class was never going to work.

M16 & Infrared. I started using the M60 with infrared on dom just because I wanted to mess and sorta liked it but I was crap since I just held the trigger down looking for white blobs and shooting at the white blob till I killed it or I died. It gives the M16 a greater range and causes people to change their play style, trying to cap with ghost not flak jacket. One thing I regret is not having another class with ACOG m16 to force the ghosts opponents to change back.
Cz75 & extended mags. I needed a gun for up close and personal and got used to this secondary fairly easily.

Ghost Pro. My thinking here is that since I'm vulnerable to fast flankers and can often be looking at a blue/white scope, ghost will give me that little bit of protection from them and spyplanes. Shoot and scoot.
Hardened Pro. You often see bits of enemies in the scope so hardened stops them using cover if the first few rounds don't kill. Plus if I'm getting shot my shots back are accurate.
Marathon Pro. I don't tend to be pushing into the enemy's spawn so hacker isn't needed and I'll be primarily a defensive midfield player so speed is essential to cover our domination points from capture and to move away quickly from the last area I was firing from.

Frag. Bigger explosion than semtex plus cookable.
Willy pete as it's dom but I should use nova gas since in domination games as people who run ghost classes generally don't use tactical mask (mostly flak jacket users) and it means I can deny the opposition from capping a point easily. If there are 3 opponents capping a point, 1 might have tac mask but I doubt 3 so that forces the other 2 off or seriously impeeds them.
Claymore. If I'm going to be leaving a red dot on the enemy radar I can make sure I use advantageously.

It's very specialised and honestly useless for most game types where ghost is very common but in dom where people tend to run flak jackets it serves a purpose.

I've noticed that from playing domination in full parties I've changed style of play where I used to take as many points as possible I've now changed to defending them simply because
    a) we can spawn trap them effectively as a team,
    b) the enemies generally aren't killing us more than them and
    c) we want the game to go on longer.
